Where does RCCL dock in Singapore?

    Thanks you for your help

    Doug

Welcome to Singapore and the Ovation OTS docked at Mariner Bay Cruise Center.

The early part of your video is no longer correct.  The only taxis at the exit door area are the fixed price White Limo taxis with fixed prices up to 3 times a regular metered taxi.  To get to the regular Singapore taxis - walk past the bus / coach park & there is a controled rank for metered taxis.

Yes you are right. We had taken the Limo cabs a few times returning from the Cruise to home and instead of taking 2 cabs for 6 paxs we paid a flat rate fare. In this case taking the Limo cab was cheaper for us. If your Hotel in in Town or resident is not far from the Cruise Center, then it's better to take the Taxi by walking further down and join the queue.

How are the prices for a bottle of wine in Singapore to bring on the ship.  Would it be cheaper to pay the ship's prices.

You can get Wines from SGD $15 onwards from the Supermarket :).

  4. I get into Singapore at 8am embarkation day and leave 10pm disembarkation day so i booked the: Disembark Excursion 6 hours

    - Photo stop at Mount Faber

    - 1 hr Visit National Orchid Garden

    - City drive including Orchard Road to Merlion Park for a photo stop

    - 30m visit of Little India area in Singapore

    - 1.5 hr for Chinese lunch served family style

    - 30m Chinatown area of Singapore

What do you suggest for the day I get there? Figure I'll have 4-6 free hours

You booked a tour for those? Depending on whats your interest, I would suggest Gardens by the Bay (near Marina Bay Cruise Centre), try local food at Satay Club(walking distance from Gardens by the Bay). You can go to China Town by the SMRT line.

  5. Personally, I am hoping to get to the Gardens by the Sea. Also to go/eat at one of the hawker centers. And do a short tour on a bumboat. Think they are under an hour. I have been googling singapore day excursions to see what it being offered. We have 3 days after cruise.

Not possible to do Gardens by the Bay, hawker centres, take a bum all under an hour. There is a Hawker Centre, Satay Club near Gardens by the Bay (walking distance) and for Bum Boat rides is at another location.

  6. Hi, we are on the Sapphire Princess out of Singapore in a few months and I am not familiar with the new(ish) cruise terminal. How busy does it tend to get and when do they start processing passengers? We are advised that boarding will be from 12.30 but am hoping we can at least get the paperwork done earlier - our plane gets in at 6.30am and I would like to check in and perhaps look around area afterwards. Is 10am too early to turn up?

10am should be fine to clear immigration. After checking in, you will be at holding area. Nothing there to do at the holding area but wait till boarding. Don't think they will allow you out of the immigration while you are in the holding area.

  7. Yes I had sailed from Habour Front a few times with Star Cruise and am aware of the Duty Free shopping there. Since then we been sailing from MBCC and never seen any otherwise I would have got all my beer/liquor/wine entitlement purchase from Duty Free Shop on my disembarkation at MBCC. Recently sailed out in March, no DFS too and will be at MBCC again in October. Keeping fingers crossed. :)

  8. We will be cruising out of Singapore on Feb 2/19 and wondering if anyone has used Eva airlines. We will fly Business class on points from Vancouver to Ho Chi Min on Eva, then Singapore air from there. Any problems with either airlines? Also, looking at staying at the Oasia Downtown Singapore hotel. Anyone stayed here?

Nice Hotel in good location and near the MRT so very convenient for travelling around Singapore.

  9. Appreciate this added information and follow-ups. Very helpful sharing!! Keep it coming. On cool weather, one of the guides for our Southeast Asia trip said that Bangkok has just two weather seasons: hot . . . and HOTTER!! It was very, very warmer there in January. Can't image how warm it would be in the summer, etc. Yes, hotter!!??

    THANKS! Enjoy! Terry in Ohio

Enjoyed a 14-day, Jan. 20-Feb. 3, 2014, Sydney to Auckland adventure, getting a big sampling for the wonders of "down under” before and after this cruise. Go to:

You are welcome. We had done the overnight Train from Bangkok to Chiangmai a few time. The Loi Krathong is spectacular, you may release lanterns, float lighted flowers down the river, give alms to the monks who will be out in the evening during that period etc. We did a tour to the White Temple and also Tribes villages ie. Long neck, dress in Lanna period costume for photoshoot etc.

  10. From your voice to their ears please

I wish haha. Was an ex smoker for 40 years and my last cigarette was on the 22nd October 2018 onboard our first evening on the Mariner of the Seas in the Casino ;)

Not easy to quit so I better not speak too soon. :D

Singapore is now very strict with their smoking policy. All covered areas or walkways, near Hospitals, School etc, smoking is prohibited and if caught, you will be FINE. I had seen some being caught.

  11. From the New York Times Travel Section this morning, they had this headline: 36 Hours in Chiang Mai with these highlights: Glorious temples and traditional markets are what this riverside city in Thailand is known for. Now, thanks to a blossoming creative scene, there are also new, ambitious restaurants and plenty of contemporary art and design to complement the old.

When visiting Bangkok earlier this year, we did not have an opportunity to see and explore more of this unique and historic country, including Chiang Mai. But, it sounds interesting and worthy of time there. Maybe on our next trip to Southeast Asia? For more on Bangkok, see my live/blog connected below. Post on that live/blog with any questions about these wonderful areas we experienced in our first visit to this region of the world.

Here is another highlight from this NY Times profile: "Traditionally, tourists have trekked to the star of Thailand’s north in search of M.E.A.T.: markets, elephants, artisans and temples. And Chiang Mai, a laid-back old riverside city whose population (fewer than 200,000) is a fraction of Bangkok’s (more than eight million), obliges those fantasies. But these days the 700-year-old city is brimming with far more modern attractions, too, namely the works of artists and designers."

IMO best to go is in November during the Loi Krathong period. Nice and cool weather too.

  12. Thank you for your speedy reply I do not know how they will cope for the 4/5 days between leaving UK and reaching Australia without vaping I would hate for them to go back to smoking actual cigarettes Thanks I hate the thought of them going back to real cigs even for a few days and then having to buy an e device in Australia if they can do so here

Tank you everyone for your replies They will just have to get around the problem as well as they can (glad I am not a smoker) The flights and hotels are booked so no changes will be made but I will buy the e cigs and vapor ready for them when they get to me in the mean time it will have to be anti smoking patches or actual cigarettes:evilsmile:

You are welcome. ..hopefully they stop smoking after a few days in Singapore. :)

  13. Please can anyone tell me what the situation is with the customs at the airport regarding e-cigarettes

My daughter and son in law are visiting me in Australia and stopping in Singapore for a couple of days first. I cannot find out if they can take their own private e-cigarette there and purchase the vapour in Singapore if they cannot take a supply with them

I have phoned the customs and I have asked them by message on their facebook page and not getting anywhere The phone automatic messages is always bout importation by suppliers not for the reason I am asking

  14. We want to go to Gardens by the Bay and the places you mentioned above also. So glad to know the rain shouldn't be a problem. Do they have the light show at night at Gardens by the bay if it's raining?

It depend...if heavy shower then not. Do note if there are lightnings alert, some rides in USS will be close.

When you visit Gardens by the Bay, do walk to Satay Club and try some local food. Hope you have a wonderful time in Singapore. :)

  15. We originally planned to do an Asia Cruise with Celebrity in March 2019 but may have to switch the date to December 2019 over Xmas and New Year's.

Would like to hear some pro and cons for each month. I know December in Singapore is their wet season but would like to hear from others that have cruised during that time if "the wet season" affected their trip. We would be in Bangkok on Xmas day but I've read that everything should be open so don't think that would pose a problem. Would like to know about Halong Bay on New Year's Day. Would the Junk Boat tours be working or is this a day when things are closed? Any info would be appreciated.

Welcome to my country Singapore. As for weather just a foldable umbrella is good enough. At times rain may only be just a short downpour to a few hours. We have done many outdoor activities like Zoo, Universal Studio etc in the month of December.:)
