  1. Was also thinking of taking this cruise in November. How was weather? Debating between this and Cote d azure from Paris. We enjoyed our non-cruise last November along the Elbe. Are these towns as beautiful as Prague and Dresden.

    Would like other travelers feedback.

  2. Love the picture of the twin spires. What building is this?

Looking forward to seeing the churches.

I grew up in Lakewood. Have family in Downey. Worked in LA, lived in S. Pasadena, and Garden Grove. Loved the beach and the mountains. Neither here in Kansas. But love it here also, the space and land.

  3. Hi Journey,

Maybe the $350 compensation is if you are a frequent cruiser?

    Are you thinking of bailing?

We are pretty much locked in with our own air and hotel rooms for pre and post trip.

No, we are not bailing. Looking forward to trip, either way. 2 days early in Prague and visit cousin in Dresden, and plan a short train trip from Berlin to Mecklenburg region. Let us know how your trip goes. P.S. I grew up in southern California. GCT has been great in answering my emails.

  4. I sent an email to GCT, they gave me itinerary for trip if not cruising. They didn't mention any $ compensation. Would the $150 for each day not cruising be a future credit or returned? We are booked on November 8 tour from Prague to Berlin. (Going in two days early to Prague). They said we would be 4 nights in hotel in Dresden, with local lunches and dinners, and 3 nights onboard in Wittenberg with no cruising. Would be bused to sites. Would love feedback on how your trip goes.

  5. :) Good to hear that GTC has a good alternate plan. We leave November 6 for Prague to Berlin tour. Hopefully rain before then. Visiting a cousin who lives in Dresden, so extra days there would be a good thing. Will be in Prague 2 days early, looks beautiful. Anyone else on our cruise?

Finally cooled off once we left the tour and arrived in Mainz on our own. We like finishing our European vacations in Mainz, then departing from Frankfurt for the USA. We always book our own flights.

No riverboat activity on the Elbe at all. We docked in Wittenberg to utilize the boat's dining and sleeping facilities. I don't believe we missed anything on the scheduled itinerary except Magdeburg.

In Dresden the Westin was conveniently located for easy walking into the old town--quite a pleasant stay except for the extreme heat. Breakfasts were normal buffet style while lunches and dinners were at local restaurants. GCT included a wine tasting/dinner that typically has an additional fee, to alleviate some of the frustration for the disappointed "cruisers." Actually this group was exceptionally positive throughout the tour despite the bus tour we ended up with. No whining or complaining--just lots of good natured jokes about our "cruise" on Elbe Creek.

To sum up GCT came through and supplied the best alternate itinerary possible and I think we got our money's worth.
