OzKiwiJJ: I've always had to produce a passport before, but this would be the first cruise I've done where the only stop was New Caledonia, so you may be right there. I was thinking that somebody had just made a mistake.
I understand it's low risk, and that it's unlikely anybody would get on board without a passport, but it still seems odd that customs don't check everybody to make sure they had a valid passport. There's still the risk that someone could get off the ship and enter Australia without a valid passport (and visa if required).

Got off the Pacific Explorer (after travelling to New Caledonia) on the 8/01/2018 and wasn't required to present a passport to enter Australia. Is this normal now?

Hi - I phoned the customer service number and booked via that - I was able to select my room at that time. Perhaps give that a try?
Yes, but you can't do it online, which seems like such a backward step in 2017.

I just found out that you can no longer select a room when booking a P&O cruise online, That sounds like a real step back in technology. What do others think? I was told that this changed two years ago with a website upgrade (maybe downgrade would be more appropriate), but my wife booked a cruise online last year and was able to select a room.

Before you get too "high and mighty", you might want to check your grammar and spelling. :D
