  1. We had a sheltered balcony (6177) in April 2018 for 18 days - Hong Kong to Dubai. It had unobstructed views and was very quiet. However, unlike the glass balconies, a window had been cut into a steel surround and that was the only view. If you sat on the balcony you could not see out. The balcony made the cabin seem more spacious and it is certainly preferable to an indoor cabin. However, I would not book it again as it does not compare with an open balcony with glass doors.

  2. Hi Everyone,

I think I have just clarified the e-visa for India issue with a great deal of difficulty. The confusion has arisen because the Indian government has been in the process of extending the e-visa over the past year or two. It can now be used for entry at the following ports: Cochin, Goa and Mangalore. The disadvantage of the e-visa is that you have to go through immigration at the terminal which may or may not have a long queue. Since most people are getting full visas it may not be too bad. However, if you have the full visa you can go straight from the ship which organises it and you don't have go through the immigration queue. This is obviously important if you have booked an early morning tour with the ship. QM2 has some tours leaving Cochin port at 12.30pm so that might work with an e-visa. I am going to try that and will post the outcome. Incidentally, you do not need any type of visa if you don't disembark. Marie2006

  3. I have just received my e-visa. It is just a printed sheet of paper which says my application has been granted with other information. It does not include my application or my photo. Am I missing something or is this sufficient?

  4. I am travelling on QM2 which visits only one port in India - Cochin for a day. I have bought an e-visa and am concerned after reading all the documentation that it may be a problem for me to leave the ship. Does anyone have any experience with this.

  5. Hi Rose, We will look you up. You should be close to us.

If QM2 has a kettle, that's great. We did not have one on Queen Victoria.

Does anyone know if there is a magnifying mirror in the bathroom? Also, are the soft drinks in the fridge and bottled water free?

  6. Apologies for confusion over dates. We leave Sydney on 27/3 but only sail from Hong Kong on 31/3 on QM2 so should be on same cruise as hihilo. We are definitely in cabin 6177. Thanks Jeffery1950 I have taken your advice and bought a coffee maker for the trip.

  7. Thanks everyone for the information which is very helpful. We are travelling in April so the weather will be hot. It might be better in cool weather. Thanks for posting the photos. The balcony view looks very obscured. Is the vessel in port or are there obstructions in front of the window?

  8. We have just booked a cruise on QM2 from Hong Kong to Dubai with a sheltered balcony (cabin 6177). Has anyone travelled in this cabin? Has it unobstructed views as apparently some of these cabins are obstructed. Does the sheltered balcony make the cabin dark? I would appreciate some advice on this. Thanks Marie2006

  9. Thank you so much for the excellent information. Can you please help with one or two queries. The ferry schedule you sent is for 8.20am to Capri. On the fast ferry site I was looking at there was also an 8.40am fast ferry to Capri. Do you know if this still operates or does it leave from a different port. Also, can we walk from our ship to Molo Manfredi. I heard that you are not allowed to walk in the port area. How would we get there? If we take a city shuttle bus where do we get off?

  10. We are docking at Mole 3 Gennaio-Berth No 8-9-10 in Salerno. How do we get from there to the ferry to Capri? Our understanding is that the ferry leaves from Molo Manfredi. Is that correct. We do not have much time as we need to catch the 8.40am ferry. Any advice would be appreciated.

  11. We are on a Cunard cruise docking in Salerno in September 2015 and would like to visit Capri for the day. What is the best way of doing this. It has been suggested we should take the 8.40 fast ferry to Capri but there is no return ferry in time for our boarding at 5.15. Any suggestions?
