  1. Last week when in Puerta Maya, Cozumel, I found a store that I loved! They have ladies clothing and I bought some Retes Glass Studio jewelry. I like unique costume jewelry and I thought this was beautiful handmade glass. I'm very happy with what I bought. HOWEVER, I am kicking myself because I didn't buy an outfit while in the store. I have checked the Puerta Maya maps online to find out the name of the shop to see if I could find the clothes online and it is not listed. It is across from Poncho's Backyard. In fact, when I checked out of the shop connected to Poncho's they gave me a 10% discount coupon for the store... I didn't realize that was what it was until I got back to the ship. Then I threw it away....

If anyone can help me out by providing the name of the store, I would appreciate it. The clothes were knits and gauze/linen type material. Very flowy and comfy looking. I would like to find an online store.

    Thanks in advance!

  2. We are scheduled to cruise out of Miami on 9/16. I have decided to take this approach... We are going on a Mystery Cruise. Where we end up will be a mystery. Yes, this is cruise #17, and yes I have my favorite ports and the ones that I really don't care to visit again. We had been to St. Thomas, Grand Turk, and Half Moon Cay before, and were looking forward to San Juan for the first time. I have no idea where we are going to go but oh well. If we don't like the port, we will stay on the ship.

One thing my husband and I discussed is that those affected by the hurricane need our help. They need our tourism dollars. No, the island may not be perfect. No, we may not get the shore excursion we had hoped for, but I'm going to take the "glass half full" approach and just remember that a day on a cruise ship beats a day at work.

We are scheduled to leave home on Thursday with early am flights out Friday, ship sailing Saturday. We have prepaid everything. Our hotels told us we could cancel if needed because of the hurricane.

Cruising is all in the perspective.... Plan on having a great time and you will. Plan on being critical of everything, and you will be miserable.

  3. I learned after my first cruise to always pack a light blanket. I take it to all the shows. In fact, I had someone offer me $ for it one time because the lounge was so cold. If your wife is always cold... take a sweatshirt, jacket, and a blanket. A large beach towel also works, but bulkier than the small blanket I take.

  4. Does anyone happen to have a copy of the dining menu for a 5 day cruise on the Elation. My 12 year old has recently been diagnosed as a diabetic and we are counting carbs like crazy. I just thought if someone had the menu I could do my homework before going and have a general idea of carb counts so vacation could be a little more relaxing. She's very diligent about trying to do this right and gets very frustrated when we have to try to figure things out on the fly. Any help would be appreciated. I'd rather not be the center of attention in the dining room with a 12 year old having a melt down.

    THANKS!!!

  5. My family (11 of us) visited Progreso last December. We shopped the market and then took a tour of the ruins... Dz..... and the downtown area. Our tour guide was EXCELLENT! You could tell he was very, very proud of his myan heritage. He made sure we knew he was "MYAN!" (sorry if I spell that incorrectly, brain isn't working well this am). From our understanding Myans are very hard workers. They may not have much but they work for what they have.

Our six year old LOVED the tour, she LOVED the market and the experience of Merida, as did we. In fact, we're (my husband and I) are sailing again this Sept and our ports of call again are Merida and Cozumel.

This will be our second time to Merida and third time to Cozumel. We would rather stay two days in Merida and skip Cozumel. We enjoy the "lack of commericialism" of Merida. HINT: If you want souveniors, they are much cheaper in Merida than Cozumel.

This year... I may have to find the beach while we are in port. To each their own but our group really did enjoy Merida. I've learned through the years that everyone has their own opinions and that's just it, it's opinions. Go with an open mind and make a decision to have a good time and enjoy the surroundings. Then thank God you have the blessing of being able to enjoy a cruise and see different areas of the world. We Americans sometimes don't realize how rich we are until we've seen a 3rd world country.
