We are on the Mariner for 5 nights just after Thanksgiving. I've searched the web site and all over the App, where/how can I find out which nights, if any, are formal nights? It will impact what we pack.

    Thanks so much

Hi Dolby1000 - My daughter and I are on your same sailing.  It is our understanding that there will be one Formal Night or sometimes it's named "Dress Your Best".  Also, in reply to SRF, if it's Formal Night or Dress Your Best, we try to observe the recommendations, we enjoy dressing up so we will pack accordingly with sequins/rhinestones, etc.

No longer will ask someone to take our picture with our camera.

Yikes!  I hadn’t thought of that one

I already do a lot of the things mentioned like carry hand wash to use after I read the menu or touch a handrail and use a paper towel to turn off water and open door to restroom.  I always use my nuckles instead of fingertips in elevator.

But the biggest thing I will do different is in addition to putting meds in the pill box for 7 days plus a couple of extra (or length of cruise) now I will do that plus bring the medicine bottles.

On my last cruise in February, I noticed my bil in another room brought a baggie and put tv remote in it.   I thought that was an excellent idea.

I’m 72 and so happy they lifted the need for doctor’s letter.  Now I can get excited again!,

Hello all sailors out there I hope that all of you are enjoying the best of health. OK now back to the topic. As all of you now know that all the cruise lines are asking for a doctor's note from people over 70 in order for them to cruise. Now as of today according to the CDC 40% of young adults are being hospitalized here in the U.S. So now what are the cruise lines going to do ask everyone to produce a doctor's note in order for them to cruise? If not I think they are going to have a big lawsuit coming against them because to me if they don't it looks that they discriminating against us seniors. And by the way I already had to cancel my cruise for May 24 because of this note ]cause I know I won't be able to get one because I do not have a family doctor. So my point is do you sailors think it's fair for us seniors to have a doctors note when the CDC just declared that this dreaded coronavirus affects all the young and old the same way?

I am very upset and resentful about this new requirement.  Now that we are at the stage in our life where we are free to do what we want, no longer needing to ask off at work or arrange childcare, now we have to worry about getting this letter from our doctor before we can cruise.  I’ve been on 77 cruises and it’s what I love to do.  I’m always planning the next cruise for myself, family and friends. I’ve introduced many people to cruising and Royal Caribbean.   But this new requirement has taken my excitement away.   I’m 72 years old and in good health.

I am 75 and have diabetes.  The way I read the form is says I can not cruise. My Doctor agrees by the way. The form does not say any thing abut being well controlled  It just says diabetes.  .  Therefore I have canceled my cruise for 15 family members in July.  :classic_sad:

So sad that you have to cancel your family cruise because of this ridiculous letter from the doctor.  I'm 72 and very upset about the required letter.  Now that we are at the age when we don't have to ask off at work or make sure we have a sitter or anything else but go, then now we have to see a doctor and even if whatever we have is under control, we still can't go.  My favorite thing to do is cruise and I've always liked Royal Caribbean best but now if some of the other cruise lines (as mentioned above) don't require a letter, I might have to forget the loyalty program.  I've been on 77 cruises (23 were not Royal) and every one was great so I'll have to give up my loyalty and they will be giving up someone who has introduced many many friends and family members to their cruise ships.

We have an RCI cruise booked for October.  My husband and I are both over 70 and are both in good health.  We do have a family doctor who will sign a clearance form.  However, I really resent having to submit a form to RCI so I can cruise because I am over 70.  We’ve been regularly cruising for the past 30 years.  I have seen many less than 70 year old cruisers who are extremely overweight, using portable oxygen, waddling about, etc., who have seem to have many health issues.

Land tours are becoming more attractive.

VA Emily -- I agree with you.  I'm also over 70 and resent having to submit a form just because of my age.  I am a widow and my husband & I enjoyed many cruises together.  After he passed away, I might not have cruised again except my daughters insisted we go for my 70th birthday.  That was 2 years ago and I haven't stopped.  I enjoy cruising with family and friends and they all know that if they mention a cruise to me that I'll be online checking it out and possibly booking it.  That's just what I love to do now and my goal is to be Pinnacle and I'm not far from it.  I think my doctor will sign a letter but how do we know and if it has to be 7 days prior to sailing then how could we plan flights, etc.  I know this virus is serious and I wouldn't want to cruise any time soon but I sure do hope I can keep my reservations for August and not need a letter from the doctor!!

  6. I have a bid in on the Mariner that leaves this coming Monday and it's still showing "pending".  Still hoping.  However someone just mentioned to me that they heard that if your bid is accepted for Royal Up that you don't get the benefits that go with the Suite.  That couldn't be possible, could it?  Doesn't sound right.

  7. Is there easy access to the beach if you don't rent a cabana or buy one of the excursion packages?

Going in one month with a large group and everyone is wondering if we need to pay for everything we do there.

I researched on the website but all I'm seeing are the excursions and nothing about what's free.  Thanks.

  8. We have 5095 booked on Holland America's Zuiderdam. I'm concerned because it is next to the elevator and I know those elevators are glass so that you can see the ocean while on them. I'm wondering if people on the elevator can see our balcony. Also, almost every other room on that deck indicates it has a sofa bed for a third person but 5095 doesn't. We don't have a third person but I just want to make sure we have a sofa. Is anyone familiar with this cabin?

  9. Normally I would say yes, but having gotten off the Summit this morning and experienced the hell that was the customs line, I'd say add 1 hour. 1 hour and 45 minutes of pure aggravation with an uneven disbursement of agents per queue set up and other nonsense and I was group 9.

Wow, I hope they get that fixed before September. Thanks for the info.

  10. You should be fine with a 12:15 flight. However, you need to make it a priority to get yourselves off the ship and get to EWR. You can book a car service or go to the taxi dispatcher for a private car or a shared shuttle to EWR. Anthem normally docks by 6:00 am, so disembarking should not be an issue. You can basically carry off your luggage after 6:30-7:00 am if you like. If you target 9:00 am, you should be at EWR in plenty of time for your flight.

Thank you. We will target 9:00 a.m. and hopefully the line won't be too long at Customs.

Merion_mom -- Hi from Georgia, I recognize your screen name so I think we've cruised together recently.

Workingonlytocruise -- Our deepest sympathy on the loss of your husband.

  12. We have stayed here several times pre-cruise and absolutely love it. If you rise early, because you are so excited, around 5:30 AM you can watch the parade of ships come into the port. This is great if you are higher up on the side facing the port or from the ground( not as panoramic) from the ground behind a chain link fence. Very cool way to start the cruise.

Thanks Nana G -- We hope to do that!! Would be wonderful to see "our ship come in".

  13. Oh, I'm so jealous!! We have another 6 months before we leave for Freedom! I hope you have a wonderful cruise and I'm sure you will be able to see Allure. When you check in, ask for a high room, on the marina side. (See if they have a corner room--we were on the top floor and we had a corner room and it was full of windows and we had a huge balcony. Well, huge for a hotel anyway):)

Hi Jennmaybe -- I should have said we are leaving on a Sunday because it's not this Sunday -- wish is was though. We still have a little over 2 months to go before we sail on the beautiful Allure. Thanks for the info about the room -- it would be wonderful to have a corner room -- we will ask for that.

  14. Wow Jennmaybe what a wonderful sight to wake up to. We love it !!

DanJ -- Thanks for the info. We will try to do that.

We are sailing on the Allure on Sunday so staying at the Hilton on Saturday night and won't get to see the Oasis but hopefully we will get to see the Allure !!

  15. We loved it!! Will definitely stay there again! Here are a couple of pics. The 1st one is the view from our room---port side.

Hi Jennmaybe -- Thanks for sharing the pics. So, did you actually see the Oasis of the Seas from your room at the Hilton Marina !! Exciting !! Didn't realize it was that close to the ships.
