  1. So we are sailing out of Charleston Saturday and it looks like the South East Atlantic Coast is in for some rough seas. With waves predicted from 15-25 ft. what kind of motion are we to expect on the Ecstasy? We sailed through a hurricane years ago on RCCL Enchantment, but I cannot remember what the wave heights were....

Hmmmm. I don't like hearing that forecast, I am going out of Miami on Sunday. I've been on the Ecstacy but it was calm seas. On the flip side I was on the Triumph 9 days after hurricane (don't remember) last year. It was not pleasant for me, and the crew wasn't happy either. Some even missing because of sea sickness. Good luck to us both.

Can you post your source for the forecast.

  2. The way to get the absolute cheapest rate is to book Early Saver as soon as the itineraries are released. That way the prices either go up, in which case you locked in the lowest price, or you price match when they go down, thus always having the lowest price.

For 60 days out, I would just book. Again, if ES is still available book that, and then just price match if it goes down. But chances are it won’t. I don’t see prices go down that often. Only if a sailing isn’t selling. Which isn’t that common these days.

Could you(anyone) tell me how you find out when itineraries are released?

  3. You are doing a great job on this review! We were on Vista and to us it was the ugliest most crowded ship to date that we have cruised on (and we have been on some MEGA ships like Allure - RCI, and Harmony - RCI) and they were far LESS crowded than the Vista and very beautiful as well. Have to also agree about the BLAH, cheap decorating on this ship. No granite, no brass, just cheap blah ceramic tile and plastic covered walls, mismatched colors (turquoise & orange). Aside from NO WOW factor, very congested! Can't wait to hear your assessment of the main theatre with the poles and moveable chairs....yikes!! We are definitely NOT interested in her sister ship the Horizon at this point if it is remotely similar to the Vista!!

I will be on the Vista in March 4th sailing. I guess it's all about people's taste. I think this ship looks beautiful and modern. If I decide to do a review I am just going to post a link to your thread, you are killing it!

You really want brass? How about popcorn ceilings? :')

  4. Bold my emphasis.

Did you complain to the Maitre D'? I think the only way Carnival will react to such matters is actual complaints - if folks don't say anything, then they will let the standards relax to keep the paying customers coming back.

I don't think I could ever be truly offended, mainly because there are lots of really truly offensive things that are about a million times worse. Annoyed would be my reaction, perhaps bemused or non-plussed.

I do think it is a sign of the very self-centric society that we have become: "Rules are for losers! I don't want to follow rules, so I will follow only those rules that are truly enforced to make sure I don't get arrested or given a ticket. And even then, if the ticket is small enough..."

Maybe time for a poke at Mr Heald on FB and see if he can create a poll?

"Do you think Carnival should strictly enforce the dress codes for Elegant Night?"

"Do you think Carnival should go back to truly Formal Night, requiring coats & ties?"

"What about top hats and tails?"

It's a lose, lose situation. They offend customers if they don't allow them to dress as they want on elegant night and they will offend customers who want a more formal dining experience.

My family me wife and 2 daughters(43,39,15,13) go all out. I wear a Tux jacket and bow tie and my girls wear fancy dresses and full makeup and hair. We definitely get looks like we are out of place. But it's fun. It's a rare occasion I get to dress up in a tux for business dinner or function. And never do my girls get a chance to go 100% .

Don't let it bother you is my way of dealing with it, and enjoy the experience.

  5. First I've heard of the 20 minute tag and removal of items, but I think it's a great idea and should be on every cruise. It would stop the chair hogs when they realize it's pointless.

I'm on the Vista in just a few weeks and I can honestly say I am concerned about the negativity with the ship. I like the shows and comedy so I think I will be disappointed If it's too crowded.
