  1. FWIW, dre is sailing in November, and is sailing on Freedom. Freedom doesn't have a Starbucks. You're sailing on Allure, which DOES have a proper Starbucks. Perhaps someone will show up here who has been on O or A and looked for Refreshers for you. :)

Thank you for pointing this out. I guess being up around midnight posting is not a good thing for me LOL! My mommy brain has taken a time out.

  2. No refreshers at all. Unless they were added a couple of months ago.

Ahh thank you. I guess 7 days without will be manageable lol.

Cafe promade says it sells Starbucks but it tastes awful the free Seattle bean stuff tasted better though I find it difficult to drink coffee in the is the milk tastes odd

Good to know. DH loves his coffee. I actually don't like coffee, except the refreshers since they taste like, well not coffee lol.

  3. After reading your profile in the OP, X should be good for you. Having said that, we are D+ on RC and after a couple of X cruises (Equinox and Eclipse), we prefer RC and we are 45 years older than you, and we find X to be sedate with few activities and the activities are usually over crowded and NO Athletic, Ping pong was the most streneous.

However, X has some slightly different itineraries that are appealing, and we are booked on X for Christmas and New Years, RC did not offer anything that compared for the Holidays.

We were debating between RC and Celebrity. We don't want to be surrounded by the young party crowd. The older demographic of Celebrity doesn't bother us since we're really not booking just to make friends. If we do, great. But on our last cruise, we didn't really talk to anyone besides small talk. Granted, we were so busy taking DD to dance parties and to meet Disney princesses etc. This time we'll have more down time. But since there is more time for us, we want there to be something to do.

We're not interested in listening to podium speakers. We aren't the kind to find a lounge chair and read a book.

I'd like to eventually travel RC and Celebrity so might try them both.

  4. My husband and I sailed on the celebrity solstice when we were (engaged) 25 and the equinox when we were (honeymoon) 27, and we are hooked on celebrity! We had a cruise booked for last year and had to cancel. We are trying to rebook for next year, we will be 29 :) (actual it is for our 30th birthdays but technically I will be 29 when the cruise leaves haha)!

I have 2 reviews, you can see them in my signature. I am still working on the 2nd which I promise to finish.

We are not big partiers, I have a few drinks and my husband does not drink. We prefer celebrity over any other cruise line. (I have been on both carnival and royal several times)

We really enjoy the hot glass show, that's our favorite form of entertainment on board. On our Equinox cruise we even became friends with hot glass artist!

If you have questions let me know!

I read up on your reviews! All that rain on your honeymoon?!! My DH and I actually took our honeymoon in 2013 to Costa Rica. We were married in 2007, but he was in the Air Force and deployed. So we kept putting it off. Costa Rica was amazing.

We looked into doing the same exact Equinox cruise that you did. However, it isn't going to work into our schedules. So we're debating a 10 night Equinox or a 7 night Reflection cruise!

I'm glad to hear that you had a great time though. I may have to pick your brain some more, if you don't mind ;)

  5. Welcome to Cruise Critic Viperau85. To the OP: you will enjoy Celebrity. Food is a notch above most major cruise lines. Entertainment varies, but there are still small music ensembles that are very good. The Martini Bar is full of great occasions for people watching and a whole lot of fun. The Sunset Bar is divine at that time of the day to ...you know what?, watch the sunset. Celebrity is laid back with opportunities to do, or not, things. I'm sure you will enjoy it.

This is good to know! I love watching a beautiful sunset. We watch them all the time on the Great Lakes :)

  6. I very much agree with DrivesLikeMario. We love the S class ships as do our son and daughter (23 and 25). In fact, my children jump at the chance to cruise with us on Celebrity, but pass on RCL, Carnival or NCL. Try it, you'll love it!

This is good to know! RC was the other line we were thinking about. But honestly, it didn't work into our schedules. I'm not oppose to trying it another year. This will be our second time cruising. I think I have a cruising bug :D

  7. Is think a lot depends on what time of year you cruise. If you cruise during school vacations, there's going to be a lot of extended families - young 'uns to old 'uns.

My first impression of the Solstice Class ships was, "This is hip! I really think a younger crowd would appreciate the tech-savvy-ness (is that a word?) of Celebrity." You'd do well with Princess probably too but if you like a more modern vibe, go with Celebrity. ;) We're not into bars, being up on the latest wine or watching shows, but there's still plenty to do onboard.

We are thinking about December before Christmas breaks. This is our last year we'll be able to go on a vacation during school. Our DD starts kindergarten next year. So our only chance to vacation will be during the typical times.

  8. There are theme nights, but usually only a few. Honestly, I have never been to one. Check the dailies that people post here to get an idea of what goes on. There is trivia, bingo, water volleyball with the staff, cooking intructions and shows.

I basically eat, sit by the pool, eat, sit by the pool, have a drink, sit at the Sunset Bar, take a nap in the room, get ready for dinner, drink at the martini bar before dinner, go to dinner, head to casino and maybe a show. They also put on shows in the lobby separate of the theater. There is a comedy show and another "adult" type show. There is plenty to do, but you do need to keep up with the dailies to know what is going on.

The entertainment is nothing like what you get on Disney though.

Eat... pool... eat... pool... eat. Sounds like my kind of vacation :D

  9. We cruise Disney with the Kids and Find Celebrity as close as you can find to the Disney Experience when it comes to service, food quality, and overall demographic of passengers. You will typically find a higher income older demographic Mid to Late 40 average. We cruised on the Century as newlyweds back in 2002 when we were both in our very early 20's and continue to cruise celebrity. Now we are in our late 30's we enjoyed Disney with Kids but continue to cruise celebrity when it is a couples vacation. More laid back, quiter, more relaxing, but not so subdued I feel like I have entered a hospice.

This is good to know! We were so worried we'd be let down by a cruise other than Disney. The ship and experience was simply amazing! BUT no kiddos... no Disney for us lol. I think I'd feel too guilty going without my kids!

  10. IMHO, It reads like Celebrity is the perfect cruise line for ya'll. More country club, less Six flags and none of the frat house:D

Very good MDR quality, and a wonderful selection of specialty venues. Entertainment is a 50/50 shot. We are not into song n dance shows, but like a good comedian and jazz singer with a backup set of strings and ivory!

Elegant features all around the ship, with even colors and no neon!

Whom ever said you would not like Celebrity, well, take it with a grain of salt!:D

This is what I like to hear :)

  11. If you are not looking for broadway shows, ice skating and surfing while on the ship, then I think you will be very happy with Celebrity. The ship is beautiful, well maintained, luxurious in some instances.

We'll be leaving the frozen north. No ice skating wanted here :p

The only other cruise we have been on was with Disney. And honestly, that ship was so darn nice. We were worried we'd be disappointed with some other cruise lines. So we thought Celebrity would be a nice choice since it's a nicer line. I'm getting pretty excited planning for formal nights :)

  12. shows: Average (Vegas-like) with singers, comedians, jugglers, acrobatic act. Movies - relatively new movies available on in room tv. Games and trivia - various times day and night, you can fight all you want about the trivia answers with fellow pax. Various pools and Spa tubs - No pool games (maybe water polo) No sexy legs contests etc.

Fellow pax will not likely be beer drinking, sitting on the couch 28-31 year olds, but enjoy the cruise. It will be whatever you make of it. - You will never know until you try Celebrity.

Thanks for your reply! No sexy leg contest?!?!:D

We've only cruised one other time. That was with Disney. After running around all day with DD, snorkeling and swimming on excursions, by the time we finished dinner and the evening show, we went to bed! But this time around, it will just be DH and me. We'll be leaving our two kiddos to freeze their tails off back home ;)

We want to just relax and was hoping for some good planned activities on board. I imagine nights before getting to port, we'll be going to bed early. So just wanted to know what there was to do on ship days. Are there themed nights? On the Disney cruise, there was pirate night etc. Just wondering :)

    Thanks again for your help!

  13. Hello everyone. DH and I are thinking about booking a 10 nights Caribbean cruise on the Equinox. We have never cruised on Celebrity. I'm 28 and DH is 31. A lot of people are telling me that Celebrity is geared towards middle aged to older people. Just wondering what your thoughts are?

We are not party animals (with 2 kiddos at home, our idea of fun is Netflix and beer on the couch!) I don't drink alcohol at all. So bars are not a big deal for me. What is the entertainment like? We like shows, movies, games or trivia nights, pools/hot tubs of course. That kind of stuff.

When looking for searches, a lot of posts were from 2011 or earlier. I was just wondering what the entertainment recently was like. Celebrity had the best itinerary for us as far as dates and ports. That's why we chose it. But when people are constantly telling me we won't enjoy Celebrity, it made me want to ask you experienced cruisers.

    Thanks for your opinions.

  14. They have drunks areas in the Ocean view and also in the aqua spa cafe and outside by the mast grill. You can get basic tea and coffee and milk and water and there are some juices available, like lemonade and fruit lunch for instance. But soda, hot chocolate or anything else (including better quality teas and coffees) are all charged for as well as all other alcoholic drinks and cocktails and orange juice and apple juice etc. So yes, there are free drinks but they don't get served with your meals. In the ocean view you help yourself and in the MDR there is always water available.

Hey... first vacay without my two kiddos... the DRUNKS area might be a nice place ;) lol

  15. On Celebrity Coffee/tea/juice (w/breakfast,not fresh squuezed) /iced tea lemonade. Is inculded with your meals. You will pay additional for soda, bottled water, sparkling water and alcoholic beverages.

I am curious as to when you booked your cruise. Celebrity has been running a promotion for a while now that includes the classic beverage package with almost every reservation. Are you in an interior cabin?

Also, if all you expect to have is the occasional beer or glass of wine with dinner than the paying for the beverage package is probably not for you. If you do some searches on this board there are some great threads that breakdown the breakeven point for how much you would have to consume to make a beverage package worth while.

We haven't booked yet. We are doing some research trying to decide between different cruise lines and different cruises etc. We've only been on a Disney Cruise... so getting to choose a big person cruise is taking a little bit of research :)

  16. Hello everyone! My DH and I are planning to go on our first Celebrity cruise. The only other cruise we went on was a Disney cruise with our DD (which we loved!)

My question is regarding purchasing a beverage package or not.

Are beverages not included with your daily meals? Like regular coffee/juice at breakfast, soda/ice water at lunch and dinner? On the Disney cruise, coffee/milk/juice/soda/and water were all "free" with your meals. Beer and cocktails were extra.

I do not drink alcohol or coffee at all. I basically drink juice, soda, or good ol' tap water. But are those beverages not included when you sit down to eat?

As for DH, he will have a couple beers or drinks with his dinner. On the Disney cruise, he only had drinks like 1 night. BUT we did have DD with us. This time it'll be just us, and we'll be relaxing much more.

We're just trying to determine if drink packages were worth the price.

Any advice and input is much appreciated :)
