Scheduled sail date - 04/01/2020 - Splendor, Miami - NYC

Regent cancelled cruise and excursions - 03/13/2020

Request for refund submitted via TA - 03/14/2020

No refund as of June 8,2020

We were to be on the Splendor with you. Our cancellation calendar looks just like yours. Our TA notified us yesterday that Regent has made the refund. My credit card bank isn’t showing it yet, but hopefully today or tomorrow.

  2. Once again I’ve been reminded that it’s the simple things that help to make my life interesting. Our first Regent cruise was a few years ago on Explorer. At a table of six people from around the globe, it didn’t take us long to realize that we all enjoyed reading a good mystery. We spent a long time discussing the pros and cons of different authors, what good books to read next, etc. I came away with a list that I spent  many hours working my way through.  I was hoping to have more of these enjoyable moments on Splendor on April 1.  Alas, I will have to wait until next time.

Indeed it was - stolen from the late, great Rodney Dangerfield...

Recognizing Rodney Dangerfield’s humor, what I was suggesting was if any cruise line required a signed doctor’s note and that person got sick, would it not be possible then for the cruise line to say that it wasn’t their fault. After all, they have a signed note allowing the person to board.  Falling into the affected age bracket, I’m concerned that someone might read this as age discrimination.

Thanks!  I must be going blind from being online so much.  I can't find a cruise on 3/30.  Do you mean the April 3rd TA on Explorer?

The Splendor arrives in Miami on the 30th but doesn’t start the Caribbean cruise until April 1. Maybe they had another short “get acquainted” cruise for TA’s?

Did hear that on radio about Northern Italy,,have lockdown on a few small cities.Did not mention Venice, per se.

Always a fear that port may be closed due to the virus,,,or that someone on ship gets the dam thing and ALL are then locked in their cabin.Trying not to be such a worry wart, but news keeps getting worse.First just Asia, now starting in Europe.

Our cruise goes to 6 or so countries in Baltic...so far that seems ok.

The news from around the world Is truly devastating. So many are affected by this terrible virus. Small islands have closed their ports to ships in order to protect their populations so not only is the cruise line impacted but all who work on the ships and all who rely on tourism and the money it brings in.  I wouldn’t want to be one of the ones responsible for making decisions right now.  .  . Where do we go and who can we bring with us. If people visiting China were released from their cruise contracts and asked not to board the ships, what will be done with the folks from Italy.  I read about the Caribbean islands trying to stay ahead of the virus. Will they be next to close their doors? I hope not. So sad.

There are folks who did their own travel arrangements to Singapore for a cruise on another line (Seabourn).  The cruise was cancelled and these folks are stuck: Seabourn, reasonably, doesn't feel that taking care of them is a priority. The screaming on the CC board is loud and constant: Seabourn is instead scrambling to look after the people who used Seabourn's air and hotel arrangements.
Similarly for the issue at hand: taking the Regent-supplied pre-cruise hotel vs. making your own arrangements.  Be aware that making your own arrangements means you are much more on your own if something goes wrong.

That said, we've always made our own arrangements. But there is a bit of an added risk in doing this.

Another observation: the Regent-supplied hotel transports guests to the dock in a bus, which of course means a bit of a line-up to board. Again, not big deal but not as pleasant as taking a taxi from the hotel to the dock and waltzing on board with no fuss or muss.

If you use the pre-cruise hotel but decide not to use the provided bus, do you have to notify anyone so that the bus doesn’t wait for you?

  7. Twenty plus years ago, while teaching first grade, I picked up every germ that was in that classroom causing me to weaken my immune system. I was then referred to the doctors at Yale who gave me lots of good advice.  First and foremost was wash your hands. Keep your hands away from your face, especially eyes, ears, nose, and mouth, places where germs can enter the body.  It was stressed that washing your hands before using the bathroom was even more important than washing your hands afterwards. Use the first stall in a public restroom as it’s the least used, therefore less germs. And lastly, if I went out to a store or a gathering of friends, I was to wash my hair (he called it a germ magnet) before putting my  head on my pillow since most people roll over and their face lands on the very spot where the germs landed.  I still follow a lot of this advice, especially during flu season.  Good luck.

Reading your post made me not want to go on Celebrity again (we tend to book "odd" cruises in September - short itineraries on the West Coast).

Had to laugh about the lanyard. I keep telling people that passengers do not wear them on Regent (except for less than one handful of people), but you definitely "get it"!

You also have cruised on our favorite ship (Explorer) and will be on Splendor when we get off.  Really like y our tastes:classic_biggrin:.

I think what bothered me the most was watching my husband go through this...a man who, because of brain cancer, had to learn to walk and talk all over again. Perhaps it was a power trip on behalf of the bartender but it definitely was inexcusable.

Perhaps we can talk you into extending your trip on Splendor. I hear New York is pretty in April.

  9. You’ve come to the right place for good advice. We have been in many suites on Celebrity and for the most part enjoyed it. Luminae was good but I find Compass Rose so much better. I still remember the time we were in a suite on Celebrity Eclipse with a drink package and the bartender would not give me two bottles of Sprite  at lunch even tho he could see my husband sitting at the table with his walker. DH had to get up and get his own drink. It was the last time I wore a lanyard around my neck. I can’t speak for any Regent ship but Explorer and Splendor on April 1 but I will tell you Regent is wonderful and we will never go back.

My husband and I are on a 22 night cruise to Zealand, Australia and Bali in January. We are able to make reservations for the speciality restaurants in October. Do you have any recommendations for times, etc. We are on Voyager and in a Penthouse Suite. First time on Regent. I know there is a Captains Welcome Abroad, but when is it and what time? Any other events I should know about? We are longtime Celebrity cruisers so any help that you can give us would be appreciated. I already booked excursions and have flights.

PSU, (as in,  We Are Penn State?) I agree with the suggestion that you start out by making reservations for early in the cruise. This allows you to find out which ones you like the best so that you may be able to book another date for later in the week. We had no trouble doing this. Sharing a table is highly recommended. Enjoy!

  11. Used SAS. On the trip down to Florida, they picked us up at the airport and dropped us off at the hotel. It was great. We were the only two in the van. One week later they picked us up at the ship for the return trip. The van was jammed with people being dropped off at their hotels, including DH and myself. We were the last couple to be dropped off. When the driver pulled up in front of the airport and started unloading my husband's walker and three suitcases I explained that there must be some mistake as we were to be dropped off at our hotel. The driver said he was sorry but he was running late and he now had to pick up passengers to be delivered TO the ship and we were on our own. The price is right but the service was not. Never Again!😢

  12. Husband and I were on The Explorer a week ago and have to agree about John. I was so impressed. He was everywhere. He made you feel like he was welcoming you to his home.

Our complaints were as others have posted...no WiFi in our cabin, and doors that whistled, making you get out of bed during the night to readjust the door. Our door actually locked me out on the balcony twice only to be rescued by DH. Once we reported it, someone was sent to repair it but it was never fixed completely. We just left it open a crack, especially if we were both out on the balcony.

Biggest regret...our Sunday wasn't a sea day so no Sunday brunch.
