  1. After Bergen (Viking into the Midnight sun 2016) we did the rail trip and spent 4 days touring on our own in Oslo  Loved it.  I arranged all our (Oslo) transportation with Viator and never had a problem,  We joked we did "planes, trains, and boats" to get around.  It's a wonderful city to explore!  We stayed in the Thron Hotel just across from the opera house and very close to the rail station so we easily dragged suitcases to and from hotel.  The train goes to the airport from the hotel.

Monet's Gardens are incredible,  not crowded early (Viking does get their groups out before the crowds!)  Our day was a little overcase, but every picture came out beautifully.  Well worth the tour.....Enjoy!

  2. lackcreativity:  Thanks for your responses.  We've done the Honfleur tour on a Viking River boat years ago.....agree its a quaint place worth seeing  We'll do Bruges on our own, too.  Been there but not long enough for either of us.  We are looking forward to re-visiting and exploring new places

Nasty weather can really dampen the experiences!  On our Barcelona to Venice cruise, it poured rain every day after Rome...Venice had snow flurries on our way to airport!  March 2018

  3. Thank you all for your complete reviews!  We are booked on for this cruise in October 6, 2019 and were hoping to find out from other cruisers the "real" info on ports.

We've done several Viking Ocean cruises, one of our favorite parts are the really interesting "expert" discussions.l  Also good to know that our thoughts about a couple of the ports are correct (Amsterdam, La Havre) -- no need to repeat included tours.

The one repeat we are looking forward to is Bergen.  That was our last stop following our "Into the Midnight Sun" cruise  and we simply did not have enough time there!  Normandy is also a "do not miss" tour!!!

Hope to see some/all on a Viking cruise soon!  😊

  4. Looking at several sites for weather in October in Greece... to low to mid 70's F day , low to mid 60's F nights. As several have said, layer and if you have a packable poncho, take it! That being said, we were on a river cruise in Holland...record heat wave...same with a Viking Ocean cruise Into the Midnight Sun in mid June to July upper 70's in Nord Cap. So one never really knows for sure!

Also, for those questions re: white after Labor Day ----- I'm from the Midwest (a long time ago) my mother would not even wear white "tennis shoes" after LD!!! Thankfully, those days are a long time ago and certainly does not affect my SC new roots!!! It does bring a smile

  5. We have a scheduled a Regent cruise. After looking at shore excursions options, seems to be only morning options for every excursion. Does Regent not offer the opportunity to do 2 excursions in one day? An 0830 excursion lasting 4 hrs, seems to leave afternoon hours available. Are shuttle buses available if docked close to a village/town to go back in afternoon for walking around/shopping?

    Thanks

  6. Does anyone know how to find out the rotation of nightly dining in the Chef's Table restaurant? On our Viking cruise the night we had reservations none of the 6 of us ate more than a few bites of anything. (3 couples from 3 different countries). We all left and hoped to find a place to eat still open. :( We agreed none of us are picky eaters! I hate to waste food!

We have a group of 4 sailing the Med March 8th, I'm reluctant to reserve a table there. I've called Viking with no response to message.

If any one knows the answer, Please respond! Thank you Sue

  7. Need advice!! I am making our own reservations for flights/transfers so would love to find information re: disembarkation in Venice. What time do the Viking ships dock and passengers can begin disembarking?

I've heard the Marco Polo airport can be disorganized! ;) (We will be flying Delta)

Also any hints about good experiences with transfer from Barcelona airport to cruise terminal would be welcome! Thank you

  8. My husband's family is thinking strongly about booking an Oceania cruise on the Regatta ship January 2017, the cruise is 16 days from LA to Miami.

Because I trust Cruise Critic, I looked at reviews of the Regatta and was not impressed.

seems to be a shortage of customer service (since NCL acquired Oceania) from the restaurants to the bars, to the leadership.

The other 2 couples have not done long ocean cruises (we have) and know the vast differences between lines. I'm leary about signing up now!

Oceania is offering, "free wifi, 5 shore excursions or beverage package ----

is that per stateroom or per person? Again the review of both of those packages are not stellar.

Please, if you have had recent experience on the Regatta or Oceania, give me your advice. Thank you!!!
