You have found a rather broad brush to describe people who prefer not to dress to the nines on vacation.  Sorry to hear your statistical cohort of the poorly dressed have such bad manners.

There isn’t really a dress code on the SS website but that verbiage is used on the daily fact sheets so there could be quite a few pax who don’t realize they’re actually the dreaded “rule-breakers” until they’re onboard.  I doubt very seriously they all have poor manners or behavior nor do they break all rules.  On the other hand, boy, do I know some insanely rich, well-dressed but highly obnoxious people who truly think rules don’t apply.

There is absolutely a dress code on SS website. https://www.silversea.com/travel-informations/general-information.html

very easy to find, but people Pay tens of thousands and then complain there are formal nights.

Why is it so hard to question and comply with a long established, reasonable dress code that elevates ladies and gentlemen for an evening or two of an adult dining experience ??

yes, i agree.  there are so many other lines that dont have dress codes.  why book on a line that does? in april there were people at dinner in jeans.  such a sad state we are in.

  3. That is certain;y your right.

I want to make something perfectly clear. I do not blame the children. I blame the parents whose to abdicate responsibility the moment they step onboard.

    Very well said!

Our last SS cruise a mother and her two young (20 something) children, boy & girl, were with her and looked board to tears.

  4. The ship was great you said but the ports were horrible? Can you extrapolate a bit as I've followed a couple "Live From" threads and seems everybody enjoyed the ports.

I am looking at the eastbound crossing this November.

We were on the same 5/10 Panama Canal cruise and loved all the ports. We did our homework booked excursions on our own with viator like others did and had a great time in all the ports.

Zip line ,crocodile safari , ATV , taco tour, thermal spa circuit spa day.

Half full. Half empty. I made mine half full and had a great time.

  5. Plastic and paper straws can be recycled.

This is just a ridiculously cheap cost cutting move and could backfire by becoming the poster child for NCL nickel and diming.

Not so! Good for NCL. I stand behind them.

  6. It’s not stupidity, I beg your pardon. They are allowing it specifically for baby formula. If someone with a medical condition requires bottled water and has a doctor’s note for it, it should be allowed.

Also, I prefer bottled water. Not filtered. I can taste the difference. And not all bottled water, or filtered water is the same. I’m willing to pay for it. It’s fine. But yea, if it’s for medical reasons, then it should be allowed.

Also, your post was offensive to me.

Then everyone and their mother would have a note from their doctor. Just like everyone needs a service animal nowadays.

  7. There is free filtered water all over the place. You can even have pitchers delivered to your cabin for no extra charge. Free of microplastic particles too. People are so over dramatic about something that we all require to live and that is available at every turn.

I agree 100%. And the threat of a lawsuit over water is just plain stupidity. The water on ships is very good filtered water. Dasani is just filtered city water.

How can you compare Oceania to NCL? Ncl cost a lot more then Oceania.

  8. Total hogwash. If tips are expected it is because people like you have established the precedent, not the company or crew.

It's been 28 months since last SS cruise. In large part because the butler took it upon himself to put his polish on a pair of shoes an idiot should have known not to touch. His supervisor told me to shove it. It's their job to polish shoes, even if in an out of sight drawer. Will be on Wind next month and first order of business is to make clear no butler service.

Hmmmmm. There is a black tote in the closet that reads "shoeshine bag". I have never had shoes polished unless I put them in the bag and set the bag on the bed. Seems strange the butler would go through drawers looking for shoes to polish. But... stranger things have happened.

  9. I am booked on the Shadow in May from Tokyo to Vancouver. Although I have cruised many times, this will be the first time that my cabin has come accessorized with a butler. What do butlers do? Do they supervise the cabin steward or do they have parallel chains of command? How do I keep from asking the butler for something the room steward should do, or vice versa? Please educate me.

Most room service is done by your butler. Favorite mini bar items will be arranged by your butler. We asked for chips and nuts one day after an excursion and while getting ready for dinner and every day after that we had snacks in the room.

Couple years ago our butler knew the excursion we were on was going to be muddy and he had a hot bubble bath and champagne in the room when we got back. If we asked for fresh towels or more soap he told the steward.

We have be on this cruise the other way twice and love it.

  10. Except for the occasional sweater we are in jackets every night. What "casual" restaurant are you talking about, hot rocks ? Most men wear jackets for dinner then there are tie nights and then there are the dark suit nights. SS is a dressy affair and most like it that way. UNLESS you are on an excursion ship.

But to answer your question you will not be sent back to your suite. I have though be sent back to my suite for a jacket for the MDR on those nights.

  11. IMO....Common courtesy would be to to suggest and provide feedback on what you've seen.....Its not OK to lecture and tell someone what to do in scolding manner.

They knew it was wrong so they thought if they said "dress" it would make it ok. It doesn't.

    IMO...they asked, I gave. Don't like don't ask.

  13. One of the biggest waste of $$$ and hassles is staying overnight before your cruise out of Florida.

Anybody think I should be worried? Flying SWA out of Arizona 4/7 direct to Orlando landing @12:20pm, Epic departs @5pm Same Day.

Not too worried or should I be??

I've never watched my ship sail away...let me know how that feels. A "big waste of $$$" would be to miss the ship.
