  1. The UDP is for speciality restaurants.

Yes, that is what it says. But as well all know there is a big difference between what they say and sometimes what is actually true, which is why I and others are hoping that someone who has sailed on the new ship or since the changes, to give us the definitive answer.

  2. My biggest grip with threads like this is the use of words and phrases like "free prime rib" and "complimentary dining" or "free dining room". The food is not free anywhere on the ship. It is "included". You paid for it with your passage. The more the cruise lines use the "complimentary" word, the less we expect from them as it makes it seem like we didn't pay for this, so what do we expect? It is a method to lower expectations and allow them more flexibility to change things without notice. I know they have the legal right, but as others have said, it doesn't make it right.

  3. I don't think we have gotten a definitive answer on this question from those on the Escape, or anywhere else that the new items in the Main Dining Room with an extra charge has started.

Can you use the UDP to cover those charges? It would make sense that they would as the charge only covers the entrée and guests would then choose items that were on the menu in the MDR. Doesn't seem like they would lose anything on the deal.

Anybody with an answer or idea?

  4. I hope someone will come to this topic and let us know:

    A. Has NCL made the glaring mistake of charging 18% on top of DSC in the main dining room on top of the DSC? I hate the idea of an up charge in those dining areas.

    B. If you have the UDP and can get the "upcharge" items included in the specialty restaurants, it would be ridiculous not to be able to use it in the main dining rooms. It would make no sense. Not that I want them to charge in the DR's to begin with. Allowing people with the UDP to use it in the dining rooms might slightly placate people who are frustrated that they cannot get reservations in the specialty restaurants.

  5. A question for the experienced among you who have sailed on the Spirit.

This ship as an older vessel has less categories in balconies, no large balconies, no aft balconies (except in suites) and so on. So... my question is do they upsell from the balconies to the suites ever? The price difference seems to be very extreme and I can't imagine that they do a reasonable price upsell to these cabins.

Has anyone done this? I am just curious. I am not expecting this to happen to me, just a query.

  6. It may sound strange but I have found that if we eat watermelon a couple of times a day during the cruise the water retention is greatly reduced. I never really eat watermelon at home, but on a cruise it helps a lot. Also I think bottled water is better. Compression socks for flying are a must and I sometimes wear them at night if my lower legs hurt during the trip.

  7. Hello everyone,

I just wanted to come back and let you know what happened with my switch. I got a wonderful agent on the phone at the online travel agency I used. (the person I booked it with was no longer there) She was in a great mood and she was more than happy to help me try and change the cruise and keep the perks, and IT WORKED! I explained what everyone here had said about keeping the booking number and just changing the information, and she was able to do it. I am amazed and so grateful to her for working with me, and to all of you for giving me the information.

This just proves that it never hurts to ask. I just had to pay a small fee for the change, but it is totally worth it to keep my perks.

Great and safe travels to you all!

  8. Hi everyone, I have lurked on this website and gotten very good advice. In saying that I am looking for other's experiences.

My husband and I are booked on a cruise next year and got a great price and two perks as it is a Europe cruise. We also got it with the gratuities on the UBP and UDP included. The problem is we will be unable to go on this cruise and want to move to a cruise for later in the year. While reading postings on this site I have read that some people have been able to move their trip and keep their perks.

    What has been your experience?
