  1. Just back from our first Celebrity Cruise and our first Suite experience (RS). 1st let me say we will never again sail in less than a Royal Suite. Our experience was incredible- but to agree with other posters, we spent many evenings looking for additional info on cruise critic and made sure we took a print out of our purchased promised perks on board with us. No need, our concierge John and butler Nelson made sure our needs were anticipated. I am gluten free by medical necessity and must admit I was nervous trusting the food put in front of me. Best week ever. No issues with any meal and our waiter in Luminae had the chef prepare special gluten free foccacia bread for me as well as many special gluten free desserts. We ate, drank, and we're treated like royalty. We enjoyed bridge tours and invites to the helipad (Alaska) sp those were welcomed for the preferred viewings.

If you are seriously thinking of a suite, just do it. But, case in point, spend some time here getting a list of perks. Basically our motto was ask and ye shall receive.

We enjoyed snack platters for afternoon tea, chilled plates in our room in evening, breakfast served most mornings in suite by our bitler, dinners in Tuscan, Murano, and kept returning to Luminae because we adored the service and food was really really good. Sommelier in Luminae was great and we loved trying different wines with pur dinner choices. No one has mentioned but the Michaels Club escort back onto the ship on port days VIP style was great- we were whisked thru the line and back on in a flash.

    Enjoy!

  2. We are sailing in a Royal Suite on the Solstice in late July and are very excited for this cruise. We have only cruised once before and this will be our wedding (onboard on embarkation day) and subsequently our honeymoon. We've done our list for Shoreside Concierge and have been informed that our Bitler will be Nelson. Has anyone here had him? Any tips for utilizing our Butler or to enjoy our suite more?

    Thanks in advance!

  3. Thank you all so far for the tips. Since we aren't experienced cruisers these are the things that will help us get our bearings easier. Will def look for the tender carpet (thanks Greg!), and be waiting for the email to get our first night dinner booked (thanks Jenna!)

What else? We have included gratuities but should we take care of our butler additionally? And when it says mini bar restocked- does that mean that we won't see charges for those items on our bill later? Just making certain as another poster pointed out- we do pay dearly for these perks!

  4. Quick specific question!

We've booked the Tracy Arm Catamaran boat tour from Tracy Arm. I understand we leave the ship at the glacier amd the tour returns to Juneau.

    1. Is it dumb to also book a whale watching tour in Juneau? I'm assuming a couple hours at sea on a small boat we should see some!

    2. Will the small boat tour take us back to Juneau where we are free to move on to other excursions and not have to wait for tendering again?

    Thanks in advance for answers!!!

  5. Thanks so much for the feedback- this is exactly the type of answers and tips we've been looking for woth regards to suite sailing!

I have a few lingering RS questions that I haven't found answers to after scouring the cruise critic boards. You guys seem like experienced Suite guests so I'll post here and hope someone knows?

    1. Will the concierge in MC help us with 1st night specialty dining in Tuscan Grill AFTER we arrive on board? Can't seem to find a way to reserve the complimentary dining anywhere!

    2. We've booked a few private excursions (well, booked one and are still shopping others). Will we receive priority tender in Juneau? How would we know if Solstice docks or tenders on our specific cruise?

    3. Does anyone know the exact pier she sails out of Seattle? 66 or 91?

Again, thanks! Your tips are appreciated and will be put to good use!

  6. On Celebrity Cruise Lines web site (at least on the Summit and the Solstice) in the Stateroom section of the area about the ships, for Penthouse suites and Royal Suites, it now states:

    Beginning January 2016:

    •Welcome bottle of Perrier-Jouet

    •Complimentary laundry service

•Daily Delectables rotation of savory and sweet snacks

To me this is huge...the complimentary laundry service is a fantastic perk on a longer itinerary. Or even a seven day.

We are sailing Solstice out of Seattle July 2016 in a Royal Suite. We are not experienced cruisers and have never cruised Celebrity. Should we expect to receive these perks even though we already booked the suite? Very excited - any experienced suite tips (or Solstice, or Celebrity, or Alaska) would be appreciated! It's our honeymoon- we are mid 40's and looking for a romantic once in a lifetime experience.

  7. Per our travel philosophy, we booked a private whale watching trip for the four of us. This was terrific as it was only 30 dollars more total than the cruise ship excursion would have been! If we had invited two more people from our role call, it would have been much cheaper than the cruise ship. We used “Lost in Alaska” with Captain Kevin. After our very late tender, we had some difficulty finding a taxi (but it really only took about 10 minutes). We went to Mendenhall glacier for about 30 minutes. It was disappointing not to have time to make it to nugget falls, but it will just be a reason to go back! Captain Kevin had given the taxi driver my cell phone number, and five minutes before the assigned pick-up time, the taxi driver had arrived and called to say that he was waiting for us in the commercial section of the parking lot. Kevin texted while we were in the taxi to make sure that we had no trouble meeting up.

Kevin’s boat was exactly as pictured, and comfortable for four people to be inside or out. He had snacks and water, but we didn’t need anything. I was delighted that he even had a deckhand on board for the sole purpose of helping him spot the whales for us! The captains all work together, so Kevin already knew the location of some whales and took us straight there. We watched a mom and baby for a while, and another adult. All we saw was backs and one tail, so we moved onto a more playful whale, who was rolling in the water and sticking up his giant pectoral fins which were over ten feet long! Kevin and the deckhand were great about pointing out whales and describing their location - “Whale up – 2 o’clock” Sometimes we had whales on both sides of the boat and couldn’t decide where to look! Kevin also does a photo cruise a few times a year, and tried to position the boat on the correct side of the whales for the sun direction! I was impressed by his extra effort to get my dad great pictures. Brent Nixon’s presentation on humpbacks really helped us understand more about these creatures and appreciate them. Kevin offered a 2.5 hour or a 4 hour whale watch. When I was researching, I felt like 4 hours would be very long, but after being out for 2.5 hours, I would seriously consider booking 4 hours next time! This time, the 2.5 hour is what fit into the schedule, and I would not hesitate to book the shorter time if that’s what you have time for.

We headed back to the dock, not realizing the best was yet to come. Near the shore, Kevin pulled the boat over and told us to take our cameras out. He started making this “hooting” noise – he was calling the eagles! In a few minutes, we had more than 30 eagles circling the boat and dipping down in the water to go fishing! It was totally magical to be surrounded by so many eagles!

Kevin took us back to the dock, and had a taxi waiting for us to take us back to the cruise ship. We got back to the ship about 8:30. It was a less than a 5 minute line to get on a tender back to the ship. We quickly changed for dinner and were seated about 9pm. We loved our waiter that night (I wish I had written down his name!). We literally shut down the dining room. Really. We were the last people there. They were cleaning and re-setting the tables, but our waiter kept chatting, and we were enjoying it!

It was a VERY long day – but a fantastic day! For those looking for clothing guidance, I wore leggings and pair of thin travel pants in the morning, with a t-shirt, a thin fleece, a thick fleece, and a waterproof shell, and a fleece hat and gloves by the glacier. (My husband was in jeans, one fleece, and a waterproof shell) As soon as we were away from the glacier, I didn’t need the hat or gloves. In the afternoon on the whale watch, I was just wearing one fleece, which I may not have even really needed.

    More photos tomorrow!

How did you find Lost in Alaska and Captain Kevin? Do you have info?

Thanks in advance! Honeymooning from Solstice July 2016, and already have Tracy Arm small boat booked. I've been looking for a whale watch tour in ?Juneau- this sounds great

  8. Boy, with those prices I'm glad I have a Royal suite, and get unlimited speciality dinning.

I have questions for you about the Royal Suite! We are first time Celebrity cruisers on the Solstice in July 2016 and are sailing in a RS. What exactly is included and what may we expect to pay for? Will we be charged for bottles of wine? Room Service? Any fees at all for Specialty restaurants? Will we struggle to get seating or excursions?

  9. Having cruised in a RS on Solstice and returning in the Spring, relax, no worries. You will be contacted pre cruise about your requests (complimentary bar set up, beers, sodas...). You wil also be asked about other requests, for example, your first night dining. Don't forget you also have the suite only restaurant, Luminae, you will not dine in the MDR unless you want to! Once on board the conceirge in Michael's Club will sort everything. He/She will sort out all your reservations and your butler will look after all your in suite needs including suite dining.

Sincere best wishes for your wedding and honeymoon. Any more questions just ask.

Great news-feeling better about it! Another topic but perhaps you can answer regarding excursions. Should we rebook or let the concierge know what we are interested in doing? For example, I haven't found it listed but we are interested in more info on the excursion which allows a catamaran to pick you up directly from the ship in Tracy Arm and brings you to Juneau later. Do you know it?

Thanks for the above info- it's really helpful

  10. We are sailing with Celebrity for the first time ever and have booked a suite to celebrate our honeymoon.

A few questions have arisen that I can't seem to find answers to:

Since our dining is all complimentary, do we have to wait until we are on board to book specialty restaurants?

I tried to book online but the celebrity portal only allows persons to reserve and purchase a restaurant package- there doesn't seem to be a way for suite guests to go ahead and book.

Any help on this topic would be great.

We are sailing the Solstice July 2016 and really hope to utilize specialty restaurants more often than MDR. Otherwise I exoect to eat some meals in our cabin.

    Thanks in advance!
