  1. Hi

Our friends and us booked a guaranteed outside cabin each on Carnival Legend for a 9 night cruise round Pacific Islands sailing 17th Feb. We both booked on same day (last August) and paid the same price, in full, at time of booking. We were allocated our cabin 1231 about 6 weeks ago, an ocean view cabin near midship which is fine. Our friends were allocated their cabin only last week, (cabin 5166) obstructed balcony. This will be our 5th Carnival cruise which is good going, as Carnival have only been in Australia for about 3 years. On our last cruise, there were a grand total of 21 people at the special past passenger meet the Captain/free drinks event so that gives you an idea of how few people have had a chance to build up loyalty points yet. This is our friends first Carnival cruise so I was surprised that they got an upgrade and we didn't. Happy for them, but a teeny weeny bit jealous as we are the loyal customers and they aren't. Any idea what determines who gets an upgrade and who doesn't? Is it just the luck of the draw?

You will learn that Carnival prefers first timers!

  2. I hope they confiscate it and throw it out! It is a true hazard and I don't appreciate my family's or my safety being compromised because some people don't follow the rules. This isn't a case of Carnival worrying about losing revenue such as the Cheers package or whatever. People's lives are at stake. Just because it hasn't caused a problem before doesn't mean it won't the next time.

    Lighten up Fella

  3. If Jacksonville will NOT dredge around MayPort and let a BIG ship come in, Carnival should go to Savannah. They will do ANYTHING to get a big Cruise ship.

A Port there, instead of Tampa..........and there are a lot of ships there..then one in Mobile. then in New Orleans......then Texas

SAVANNAH would get people from N.Florida. Alabama. Georgia. Tennessee ( I-95 straight line to the coast of GA) Kentucky. S.C., N.C.............HUGE market there that would drive, and not necessarily fly. MANY already vacation in S.C., GA.......North East Florida.......already coming in summer or on Holiday. on Interstate 95 and Interstate 10. Six hour or so drive. Doable. Same distance from Jax to Miami. And we drive it ...go the night before so extra business for them. Ditto for Savannah which is an eye popping lovely place. Great food too.

    Eat at Paula Deens place.

  4. MDR refers to the Main Dining Rooms. On Regal, there are three Main Dining Rooms, two of the three MDR are ATD, AnyTime Dining while The other is Traditional set dining times. ATD refers to your seating preference, AnyTime Dining, rather than Traditional set dining times. MDR refers to all three Main Dining Rooms, regardless of seating preference style.

Menus are exactly the same for all three, and all food for all three comes from the Same kitchen.

Depending on the maitre'd at the time of your sailing, you may or may not be able to make a reservation for ATD in the MDR. Some maitre'ds will allow same day reservations, some will allow a week long reservation while others don't allow reservations at all. If you want a specific dining time every night, best to do Traditional dining at one of the two seatings. Otherwise, your left with the maitre'ds decision. Most guest simply wall up for ATD, as that's the point, to dine at anytime you like during dining room hours. Wait time at peak times (6:30-7:30 usually) can be around 15 minutes if you want a specific table or are unwilling to share a larger table.

The other dining venues, Alfredo's, Crown Grill, Sabatini's, etc all have their own kitchens.

Concerto dining only ATD after 7;30

  5. Here's what I always wonder about John Heald's "polls". FB gives you the ability to create an actual poll. You can give several choices and your followers can click a button to vote for each option. Each person can only vote once. A horizontal bar graph is instantly created as each person votes so that you can quickly see how people are answering. The person who creates the poll also has the option to access built-in analytics about the people who took the poll - how many people who took the poll are male or female, their age group, etc., based on the info in their FB profile. Here's an example if you haven't seen one:

I work in social media, so I have to wonder, why would JH not use this feature? Is it because he's not actually polling people? I feel like he just asks these questions so that he can say he averages X amount of comments per post, which proves his relevancy to the brand (a key social media metric), and really doesn't do much with the information obtained from the polls.

This is just an idea I've been mulling over, I could be wrong...but why not use a built-in poll when actually polling people? I know there are a lot of JH lovers on here, so please don't flame me, just sharing a thought I had.

No flames here. Heald only cares about hits on page. Questions are repeated in one form or another over n over. The Big Cheese is a relic of the past.
