hi txusi.
I don't know about the price of drinks or excursions as these will be notified 8 weeks before departure. Tips are included in the fare but I imagine an end of trip gratuity to the cabin steward would not be inappropriate.
I think the usual drinks package is around 30 AUD per day. I am not sure I could drink that much. Probably end up falling overboard. It would mean you would probably drink every day which I don't usually do and I don't think I could handle that for 6 weeks.
BTW I don't know if you have stumbled upon the "Halfway Shoal Blog" which is a day by day account of the trip to Freo by a guy who travelled via SA in 2014. I found it quite interesting. it might answer some of your queries.

Thanks mic Canberra. Yeah my wife doesn't like ships and she doesn't like nz (not enough shops and everywhere closes at 21.00 hrs) so I have to go alone. I hate flying but I just wonder if I will be travelling in a retirement home for 6 weeks. Probably only the retired have the time and money to make the journey. What appeals to me about this ship is that it is making a journey (repositioning) rather than cruising and I like that sense of purpose. I am just worried about boredom. My daughter thinks I should just cancel and fly business class but this journey has touched a chord in me and I quite fancy the adventure. Have until June 16 to decide. Thanks for replying.

As a child i travelled to the uk from Melbourne on the ss oriana. I have recently booked a trip to nz to visit my brother on the Mv Astor departing from Tilbury in Oct 16. I shall be a solo traveller aged 62 and I wonder if I could stick a 42 day cruise. Perhaps I should just cancel and fly?
Can anyone offer me any advice please.

Thanks Big Kev. I am starting to warm to the idea and have booked and paid my flight back to the uk so I guess it looks like I will be travelling. Just a bit worried about the boredom. Perhaps I will consider the drinks package as from Madeira onwards it will probably be pretty hot and I might need a beer or two every day. I'm just not sure the liver could hold out to drink I ng every day.
