  1. I have to disagree about a couple of points - I was on the very next sailing. I thought the ship was in generally good condition, but the state of the furniture on the pool decks was an embarrassment. Lots and lots of sunlounges were broken, and the padded ones in the solarium were utterly worn out, you could feel the metal bars right through the foam. In the main pool area, almost every sunlounge was torn around the area where you sit. One of the hottubs in the solarium was out of action for most of the cruise, and the remaining one was stone cold and had no jets working.

And you're very lucky to get a comfortable bed, my own one was so rock-hard that I was continually dosed up on strong painkillers due to what it was doing to my back. Felt like sleeping on a wooden box. I'd even get pins-and-needles in my backside just from laying on top of the bed to read or watch TV.

  2. The big advantage of a hump cabin is that they are opposite the elevators.

That's also the massive disadvantage. I was in a balcony cabin on deck 7 at the hump, and there was a constant stream of kids running up and down the hallways and calling out, even at midnight.

Don't get a cabin in the middle of the ship unless it's completely out of school holidays. Get a cabin at either end where hopefully there's less traffic coming past.

  3. I can understand his frustration. It's one thing for Diamond+ perks to simply give you something extra, that affects nobody else - such as free drinks at happy hour in the lounge. But it's another thing when those perks are afforded to you at the direct expense of others (who have paid for their cruise all the same). I've heard that priority tender access has now been suspended across the entire fleet, and applaud this decision.

  4. OP here. Just spoke to a supervisor, who allowed me to amend my booking without losing my deposit "as a one time courtesy".

So many people here making this all about terms and conditions. I knew the terms and conditions were not in my favour. It was never about that, just about making a customer feel appreciated.

  5. I was about to answer your question until I realized you're in Sydney.

    Regulations can vary by country.

Not really concerned with regulations, just want to get them to show some customer goodwill to someone who's been loyal to their brand for many years and thousands of dollars...

  6. After the group I'm travelling with changed their travel plans, I'm trying to change my reservation (still 4 months away) to a longer, more expensive cruise, but RCI is treating this as a cancellation and taking my $200 deposit.

Has anyone had any luck convincing RCI to transfer a deposit to a different reservation? I'd even be happy for just part of it to be given as on-board credit. Just so that I feel a little bit less like I've been screwed. But the lady I spoke to on the phone absolutely wouldn't budge.

  7. You directly dial any stateroom number to call the phone in that room. My experience on Voyager and Radiance class ships is that there are plenty of phones in other locations around the ship, so if you're waiting for someone you can at least call to figure out if the person is still in their stateroom or not.
