I was going to suggest Uber as well. No need to tip or have cash. If you have a smart phone, just download the App. It's very easy and most drivers are very familiar with the airports and piers. If you choose an UberXL there will be plenty of space for your luggage. And you can see how much it will cost before you request one be sent. It's a great service.

My husband and I were on the Oasis in November of 2015 and it was the biggest ship we had been on at that time, so I understand where you're coming from! I totally agree with all the other comments above. Here are a few of my own suggestions.. check out the water show for sure and get there early! It gets packed and it's a really cool show. We heard Cats was terrible so we didn't even bother. The Windjammer gets crazy for breakfast and people can be jerks and slobs. In the solarium you can get a nice breakfast that is no charge and usually isn't as crowded. We didn't try any of the specialty restaurants, we just did My Time Dining in the main dining room. The comedy show was good and we also liked the question and answer forum with the Captain..that is always interesting! Purchasing a drink package is a good idea if you plan on drinking alcohol. If you don't drink alcohol, the soda package comes with the souvenir cups that work at the soda machines and the have many more choices than just soda...like flavored water and sports drinks. I'm not sure if that have those on other ships these days or not. Enjoy the ship and enjoy your trip :) you'll still be exploring and finding new things by the end...I know we were! Safe travels!

Hi Wanderlust! Thank you for taking the time to write a great review! My husband and I will be on the Allure in November. We sailed on the Oasis in November 2015 and loved it so we figured we should try the Allure out :)

I'm 26 and my husband is 27 so we are kind of close in age to you and your fiance. I have cruised with both Carnival and Royal and I'll never go back. We've also been on smaller Royal ships and by far I'd have to say Oasis is my favorite...so far. So if you guys ever decide to give Royal another shot, I'd say try that ship out :) It's awesome to see another younger couple that loves cruising like we do, whether it's Royal or Carnival! :)

We also need flavored cream to enjoy our coffee, Deborah. Last cruise I bought a box (50 single serve) of our favorite on Amazon. Nestle coffee-mate Italian Sweet Creme, mmm! No refrigeration needed, it worked out great. :)

That's a really good idea! I was also thinking they could get a small bottle of the new coffee flavor squirter things..I can't think of what they are called, but it's in a bottle like flavoring for water but it's flavoring for coffee..and then add cream and sugar :) Your idea is great, though..I might just do that myself!!

I might be thinking of room service we ordered at a hotel but I swear we could get French Vanilla creamer when we ordered room service. Again...I could be confusing our past cruises with a stay at a hotel.

Can anyone please tell me the best (and least costly) way to get from the cruise ship to the airport (FLL) in Fort Lauderdale? It seems very close. Will taxis take you? Are there shuttles? Is Uber allowed on the port?

 

The last time we were there I had booked a rental car at FLL but I found only certain rental companies had shuttles from the port to the air port.

 

Any advice?

Uber! On our last cruise we used Uber from the airport to our hotel and then from the hotel to the port. Most of the Uber drivers are very familiar with both the airport and the port. I also agree with the post above about getting an Uber XL. More space for luggage. I'm guessing that's probably the cheapest option, too. Not to mention most convenient.

My Fort Lauderdale flight was cancelled, and now I am flying home out of Miami. Can Uber be easily used from Port Everglades to Miami? Any cost estimates? Thanks!

We used Uber from that port twice but we were going to FLL. I'm not sure how much it would be, but I can tell you that one of our Uber drivers wasn't super familiar with the port so he called me and stayed on the phone with me until he pulled up right in front of us. Many of them frequent the port for drop offs and pick ups but if they aren't, I'm sure they will make sure they get ahold of you :) I love Uber.

Any other comments? - We were very happy with the location of our cabin. We just had a normal room with a balcony. This room is located right off of the elevators on the 6th floor by the boardwalk. This was very convenient for us as the stairs/elevators were right there and my husband enjoyed grabbing a snack at the hot dog place on the boardwalk. With so much happening on the 5th floor, we could just run down the stairs and we were there. Even though we were right by the entrance and everyone in hallway had to walk past us, we didn't notice any noise. Wind wasn't an issue. I guess it all depends on what you're looking for, but we were very happy in the location of this room and the room itself :)
