  1. I always send postcards to family and friends from my trips and it's an important "ritual" for me. Has anyone sent postcards from St. Maarten, Antigua, and Dominican Republic to the US and Europe? Do you remember what the postage cost was? Did you have to find a post office to buy stamps or do they sell them on the ship too?

Also, is it easy to find postcards in these countries? I assume they would sell them at the souvenir shops, but wanted to verify it, just in case .

  2. I have a few questions about this cruise. DH and I are new to cruises. We will be sailing on Jan. 2. The ports are: St Maarten, Antigua, St Thomas, Dominican Republic (Amber Cove). All of them will be our fist visit.

    1. How is the sea this time of year (early January)? Is it rough or peaceful?

    2. I easily get sea sick but what helps me the most is carbonated water. I heard that you are allowed to bring your beverages on boar, but is there any bottle size limitations (we typically buy standard size of 25 oz.)? We buy it in glass bottles only, not plastic. Are glass bottles allowed? What is the limit of the bottles per person?

    3. Are there vegetarian food options on the menu in MDR? Do they vary by day or are they the same every day? Someone told me that on their cruise to the Bahamas these options were the same all 3 days of the cruise.

    Thanks in advance!

  3. I tried to post in the Breeze section but didn't see a button for a new post, so I'm trying it here. I have a few questions on this cruise. Will be sailing on Jan. 2. The ports are: St Maarten, Antigua, St Thomas, Dominican Republic (Amber Cove). All of them will be our fist visit.

    1. DH and I prefer walking around independently and taking our time discovering new places. We don't care much about the beach but enjoy history and architecture. We're young and active. If we don't do any excursions, is there enough to do and see on your own in these ports?

  4. Thanks everyone for your input. I guess, the tipping thing is too complicated and it's better to do the auto tip and relax. We might give the room steward and waiters extra cash just to add some personal touch.

Do you guys think it's a good idea to give some tips in advance? I read that some people give the steward $20 the first day. Any thought on that?

  5. We're new to cruising and we're a bit confused about tipping. We just booked a cruise with Carnival and will sail in less than a month. The tips are not pre-paid. We travel without kids, just the two of us.

We don't drink alcohol, so we won't be going to a bar. Who should we tip in our case? The room steward and waiters; anyone else?

It may sound a bit old-fashioned, but we prefer being personal and giving cash in person to make sure the tip goes directly to those who served us, instead of adding the tips to the bill at the end of the cruise.

    Thanks for any input!
