  1. Con: enclosed adult Solarium...not able to tan in there

Pro: outdoor WJ seating...more ships should offer that!

We were on the Jewel New Year's Eve cruise and each day while we were in port, the roof of the Solarium was opened. You could get plenty of sun in there if you were in the right spot. It was a nice combination of sun and shade.

And agree - the outdoor seating at WJ was a huge plus!!

  2. Has anyone stayed here - good, bad? Is it within walking distance to Old San Juan? What about beach?

    Thanks

We are booked at the Doubletree which is located in Condado for our upcoming New Year's pre-cruise stay. They have a beach associated with their property and have a shuttle (golf cart) that takes you back and forth. It is not withing walking distance of Old San Juan. Hope this helps - and looking forward to our stay!

  3. Yes you should be able to catch a taxi right by the pier without any trouble. I sincerely doubt the parade will go along the water front, most likely it will stay on king street and shouldn't interfere with cruise ship operations. The taxi ride is 5-10 minutes to rainbow.

Thank you! Heard back from WE Water sports, too - they don't expect to be too be too busy that day!

  4. Hello Drake - we will be on the same cruise ship on January 2 and had planned on heading over to Rainbow Beach for the day. My family wants to rent Jet Skis from West End Water Sports. We like the pictures and settings of Rainbow and Rhythms. I have contacted them (West End) to ensure they will be open that day despite the parade.

Questions - I have searched the threads and can't find how far it is to Rainbow Beach. Will we be able to catch a taxi just off the pier and be able to get to Rainbow? Our ship docks at 8:00 am and I assume we would look to get a taxi around 9:00 am. Is this feasible given the parade?

  5. You might be correct. But for those of us who would like to partake of a specialty restaurant and book ahead so as to ensure getting the dining time we want, knowing what is going to be served on which nights in the MDR would help us immensely in deciding which night we wish to go to said specialty restaurant. I for one would hate to pick the one and only lobster night in the MDR to go somewhere else.

You read my mind! That's why I was asking so to not miss the lobster!:D

I'll have to investigate a little further with the itinerary and ship search.

  6. Hi Katie,

We are on the Jewel for the New Year's Cruise this coming December. Your pictures and tidbits are awesome!

On your spreadsheet, I noticed you had the menu rotation listed in the order of being served - i.e. Mojo, ****ake, etc. Did that hold true to the order you had them listed? I want to book specialty dining but certain nights the menus have options that I don't want to miss in the MDR.

  7. Woo hoo! Free is really free!

Thank you for choosing the DoubleTree by Hilton San Juan.

  8. We have two rooms booked this coming December for our Jewel of the Seas cruise. One room we were able to book free with Hilton Honors points and I was wondering if they would still charge the resort charge for the free room? Anyone have experience with this?

  9. Thanks. I'll keep that in mind. They told me that it was not sold out, but not offered on this cruise. It was "vendor" driven meaning the company they use did not have an English version this time-frame. This was when I called them after getting the email. Maybe it's because it's the holiday (December 30)? I had been looking at my cruise planner everyday. We booked this cruise last summer.:(

  10. So here is my response from RCI. I guess I'll try to find one outside their packages. The Pitons are a major reason we are excited to visit St. Lucia!

    Greetings,

Thank you for contacting Global Tour Operations with your inquiry.

I am sorry that we are only offering that tour in French. It is actually the only tour we offer in French for your sailing. Please review the array of tours we offer in English. I hope that they may also catch your interest.

Thank you and have a great day.

  11. So I called Royal Caribbean today to ask if this really was the only coastal cruise to the Pitons that they offer - looking to see if there might be one in English. The cruise planner on the phone told me that I just need to select ENGLISH as my prefernce language and the cruise will be narrated in English. I'm a little skeptical - why would the title say FRENCH GUIDE if it is also offered in English. Anyone do this excursion in English?
