  1. There is a game room with air hockey and other games. Maybe you can give him a spending allowance.

The drinking age in the Bahamas is 18. That won't work at Ocean Cay but if you're also going into Nassau, let him have a drink or two downtown such as Senor Frogs or Margaritaville.

  2. You should definitely make a Noon flight. I recommend you leave the ship earlier than 8:30AM if that's an option and use a taxi (because they're already outside in line) rather than a rideshare. Also, it greatly helps if you have TSA PreCheck because security lines at MIA can be horrendous, especially if you're flying AA. If you're flying someone else besides AA, so much the better.

  3. If you don't already have the Uber app, download it now. That will be much cheaper than a regular taxi. Once you have the app, you can check the price at that moment from Port Canaveral to the mall. Try to run the test at the approximate time you'd be doing it at the Port, taking into consideration the time difference from where you live. That will give you a good idea how much it will cost to go there.

  4. My room stewards of late have been from the Philippines or Indonesia. We also recently had one Thai national. But there's no way to know and as mentioned above, give them a cash gratuity at the end of the cruise. The daily charges for tips all get pooled and each housekeeping member will get their pro rata share. But anything extra you give directly to your room steward or stewardess goes directly to them and is greatly appreciated.

  5. I would add then when you get off the ship, if your flight is relatively early, then skip the rideshare and just grab a taxi. You'll have to wait for a rideshare to accept your request and then drive to pick you up. I've had a 15 minute proposed time previously because there typically are multiple ships arriving on many days. That's fine if you have plenty of time until your flight departure. But if you're in any kind of hurry, just grab a taxi because they're already there, lined-up waiting for passengers, zero wait time.

    Hi all,

(Royal and Celebrity award the points to both since we're married, and I was hoping MSC did the same.)

I think you're mistaken. I sailed once on Celebrity without my wife. I got my points but my wife didn't get points. She wasn't there.

We are staying at the Biscayne bay Marriott in Miami.  Can we safely walk to Biscayne market place?  We are 3 adults no little ones.  Or would it be better to just get an Uber?

Yes, I think you can safely walk there but it's farther than it looks. But why not just take the free Miami Metromover? The Adrienne Arsht Metromover station is pretty close to your hotel and then you can take it to the College/Bayside Metromover station for Bayside Marketplace, as it is called.

  8. I did the 7-nt version of this cruise on MSC Preziosa back in 2019. At the time Norwegian Airlines flew from Fort Lauderdale to Fort-de-France for a really decent price but they no longer fly the route. For the return, their flight back to FLL departed too early to make it after disembarking off the ship. Thus, we were stuck flying American Airlines and a much higher price. There just isn't much demand from Americans to go to the French islands.

If you can digest American Airlines' prices, the ship's itinerary is amazing. Besides Martinique & Guadeloupe, you get Grenada and St. Vincent, places few cruise ships go to. Ours also went to Trinidad that year but it doesn't look like they go there any longer. Very few Americans on the ship; just about all Europeans. When we landed at FDF, Air France & XL Airways from Paris landed behind us along with Condor from Frankfurt. The shipboard currency is the €.

The excursions listed for Key West and Cozumel are very limited. Particularly Cozumel. They only have 3 listed and all are water activities that I'm not interested in. Anybody have any insight on this...would there be things to do at the Port in Cozumel if there is no excursion. I'm traveling solo and don't want to go off by myself too far. Key West they are offering the hop-on, hop off trolley type of thing.

Check back on the MAS website closer to your sailing date. I'm sure their offerings are a work in progress. Also, they may have a lot more selections once you're on board the ship.

Any recommendations for an over night stay pre-cruise in September?

The Ybor City area of Tampa has a Hilton Garden Inn and a Hampton Inn by Hilton. It's only a few miles from there to the ships. If the trolley is running, you can get on at one of the Ybor City stops and the port is just a few stops away.

    Love y'all ❤️💃

Mandyleighflies, I've done this cruise twice so I feel pretty confident in saying you're going to have a great time. You've got the right attitude which is low expectations. It's an old ship with zero bells & whistles but it is well-maintained and very clean. Since it's only a 2-nt cruise, that means just one day at Grand Bahama. The cruise begins and ends so fast, it's over in the blink of an eye.

If you'd like to read my non-commercial Blog about the music/fun on the ship, check it out here and this will give you some idea. I don't think they do "Jimmy's Ship Show" onboard anymore.

Have a great time; will look forward to your report.

  12. My American Express card does not charge foreign transaction fees so I use that to pay onboard charges. However, my bank's VISA debit card does charge 3% on foreign transactions so when I last paid my MSC $100 deposit, I did get hit with a $3 fee.....from my bank.

We are scheduled to arrive into Port Miami at 8:00 am and our flight leaves at 11:00 am from Miami airport.. Shuttle service was purchased from Carnival Cruise. What are our chances? I still have time to book a later flight.

If the ship actually does not arrive until 8AM, that means you're not getting off until probably 9AM. An 11AM flight is really risky unless you have TSA Precheck and are not checking any luggage if you're flying on American.(Long lines for both). Definitely not if you're using the Carnival shuttle bus.

Thanks for the info.   We will decide once on the ship depending on times available to disembark.  If we can't get earliest  time off the ship then we will do what you suggest and do the self-disembark.

Sunday road traffic will be light at that hour; 20-25 minutes to the airport. Inside the airport on a Sunday mornings, things are not very busy before Noon. The American Thanksgiving holiday is later that week but should have minimal impact on the Sunday prior. You will have plenty of time as long as you get off the ship before most everyone else.

We are docking on NCL Jewel  at 7;00 a.m. on  Sunday,Nov. 24th  and wonder if booking an 11:40 a.m. flight is advisable?   I would guess there would not be too much traffic on a Sunday morning?

Yes, you can make that flight if you are able to self-disembark off the ship that morning and then take a taxi or rideshare to the airport. If you are someone who puts their luggage in the ship's hallway the night before and have to await your group to be called that morning, then you're taking a chance of not making the flight.
