  1. Well I cancelled this excursion last night, especially after reading more reviews about Mystery Island on TripAdvisor. A couple other people had the same story as you, and other people recommended just snorkeling on your own on the south side of the island where it's calmer and there's plenty of fish to see. They also said they offered tours on the island for much cheaper than RC so we will probably just wait til we get there to see if it's even worth it to go out :(

I'm hoping to find someone who has done the Noumea snorkeling so I have time to make other plans if it's just as unreliable. Royal Caribbean's website has no reviews on any of the shore excursions so there's really no way of knowing if they're worth it.

  2. We were on the Explorer of the Seas South Pacific cruise a few weeks ago. Jan.13th sailing. We took the Advanced Snorkeling Tour booked through the ship on Mystery Island and would absolutely NOT recommend this trip...

Thank you so much for this! I'm definitely reconsidering now. The current may be a little better in late March but the lack of professionalism will still be the same. Going to have to find something else to do or maybe just stay on the island all day.

  3. Does anyone know if I'd have better luck taking the morning or afternoon snorkeling tours in Noumea and Mystert Island? I snorkeled last time I was in Fiji but it was mostly on the shallow reef near my resort and the tide was low by noon. However, I'm not familiar with snorkeling in New Caledonia and Vanuatu and this will be in deeper waters so I wasn't sure if maybe the afternoon would be better due to the sun being at its brightest (assuming conditions are clear). I'm also not aware of weather conditions. When I snorkeled in the BVI/USVI it would rain almost every morning but cleared up by mid-afternoon. I should also mention I'll be there last week of March-first week of April.

Also, these are the Lagoon Snorkeling (Noumea) and Advanced Snorkeling (Mystery Island) tours on Royal Caribbean. To anyone that has been on them, would you recommend them?

    Thanks!

  4. Has anyone done the Lagoon Snorkeling in Noumea and/or the Advanced Snorkel on Mystery Island? If so, would you recommend it, and do you think the morning or afternoon session would be better? I snorkeled last time I was in Fiji but it was mostly on the shallow reef near my resort and the tide was low by noon. However, I'm not familiar with snorkeling in New Caledonia and Vanuatu and this will be in deeper waters so I wasn't sure if maybe the afternoon would be better due to the sun being at its brightest (assuming conditions are clear). I'm also not aware of weather conditions. When I snorkeled in the BVI/USVI it would rain almost every morning but cleared up by mid-afternoon.

I know this isn't a super popular route on these boards but it's worth a shot! Thanks :)

  5. My boyfriend and I dined in the Manhattan Room one night on the Escape this past week and found it kind of hard to coordinate our eating with dancing. It seemed like any time we were finished with part of our meal, the music would stop. It would have been nice to have some consistent music. They also put on mini "shows", which were nice but you couldn't dance during this time. As for getting a table on the dancefloor - that'd just be pure luck. It's a very popular venue, so you may be waiting a while. We weren't very close to the dance floor but that wouldn't have stopped us had we actually been able to dance!

  6. I was really excited for the Vista, but I just couldn't wait and ended up booking NCL Escape. Now that I'm freshly off that ship and real pictures (not renderings) of the Vista are popping up on CC, it seems a lot less appealing to me :( Perhaps I'm jaded, having just come off a ship like the Escape, but most everything looks underwhelming to me, especially the spa. It looks like just a couple heated loungers and a tiny hot tub? How lame! I know Carnival isn't exactly known for it's world-class spas but I feel like that was a missed opportunity.

  7. I'm confused....this entire thread is about charges that were never even posted?

The medical ones were not, but there was confusion over what I was being charged in the first place. The nurse I asked said I'd have to check with the front desk in the infirmary. She also said she couldn't guarantee shorex would be refunded, but they ultimately were. It's not about the charges and whether or not they were posted, it was more so the confusion of it all.

  8. Thank you for coming back to update us. Hope you are feeling better. Great to know that they are reading these threads even while ship is out to sea. NCL did the right thing in refunding your money, did they refund the medical visit? Power of social media and especially Cruise Critic. They know people on here love to cruise and will voice there opinion whether good or bad.

I'm not even sure if they charged me in the first place. When I originally walked in there and asked about the cost, they showed me a sheet that broke down all the pricing. Then when I went to the front desk to ask about the charges, no one was there. I just wanted to get back to my cabin so I left assuming it would show up on my statement, but it never ended up being charged.

  9. What do you mean that the referenced this thread? They must still be reading here then.

When guest services called up here, they mentioned concerns I brought up in this thread but never to them and said "I know you were wondering about shore excursions and room service..." I guess they only listen when something like noro is involved because we sure do a lot of complaining here ;)

  10. Take it right off? Haha, very rarely does guest services waive fees or refund charges 'quickly'. It's usually a long process involving many people and days of 'we'll get back to you'. At least that's my experience on the dozens of NCL cruises I have been on.

Actually they did take it off without me asking surprisingly. They also referenced this cruise critic thread so maybe that's why. It was quite creepy!

  11. You should be able to have your excursion cost refunded to you if the ship's doctor gives you a note for the excursion desk that you should not go on the excursion.

My husband has a mushroom sensitivity and develops severe gastro-intestinal symptoms from both ends at the same time approximately two hours after eating them.

We were having lunch in the Blue Lagoon before an afternoon excursion. Even though he very carefully checked with the cook and the supervisor in the Blue Lagoon, he found a mushroom in the dish he ordered.

He quickly called over the supervisor, showed him the mushroom and said he didn't want to go on the excursion because he was afraid he would be very socially unacceptable in a few hours.

The supervisor called the medical center and told my husband to see the doctor immediately. The doctor listened to his concerns, wrote a note for the excursion desk that it was medically advisable that my husband not go on the excursion.

My husband took the note immediately to the excursion desk and was told it was NCL policy to refund the excursion when the ship's doctor stated it was advised to not go on the excursion.

There was no charge for the doctor's visit.

Thanks for the info! Did your husband end up being okay? I hope so - that's scary!
