  1. Called NCL this morning and they obviously had many other callers asking about the situation as well, but the customer service people basically said "no news is good news". I contacted PR and now there is a notice about the Breakaway on the website that says everything is running on schedule. The PR lady that emailed me back was trying to be very reassuring letting me know that the Captain and the USCG would look at everything to make sure they would do everything to make sure everyone was safe.

I imagine that we will be able to get on as normal but that we might be sitting in port longer since Hermine is supposed to be sitting just off the coast at 2pm tomorrow, I can't see them having the port open with that if they've already got a state of emergency, beaches are closed, and airports are closed. I just hope the subways stay open until we get to the port!

Oh, and my in-laws had to cancel- unrelated to weather, but with the insurance through NCL, you don't get your money back due to a hurricane- 75% cruise credit and you eat the other 25% as a loss...

  2. The problem would probably be that craft beers and similar are not popular enough to stock in anything but bottled form. I am just guessing, but I would imagine that there could be too many instances of them passing their best before barrels are empty. For my own part, I will seek out craft beers ashore if I have time and opportunity. I truly hope to track some down and enjoy them...at reasonable prices. :)

We did that on the Dawn on our honeymoon and we discovered some really delicious local brews while we were in port. It was fun to try to find things we hadn't had before.

  3. You can eat in any of the specialty restaurants. For the a la carte restaurants, as long as you only order 1 entree (you can order as many appetizers, sides, or desserts as you want though...) there is not an upcharge. Except for Ocean Blue- I think that upcharge is around $20/person. The upcharge for the Cirque show is only like $12.

I've called several times and asked what the rules are as well!

  4. Have not cruised with Norwegian since 1999, but just booked a 38-night cruise on the Star. Does Norwegian have "happy hour" drink specials?

They usually have a daily drink special which can vary on what exactly they are offering. We got some breakfast "happy hour" mimosas on one sailing- they announced it over the intercom, so it does pay to listen to the announcements sometimes!

  5. The spa on the Pearl is underneath one of the nightclubs. Which is fine during the day, but we liked to enjoy the practically empty spa at night in the hour or two before it closes (I get incredibly seasick super easily and it was the only thing that made me feel better). It wasn't really bad, but expect to hear some bass if you go at that time.
