I noticed your comment about WiFi calling. My phone service uses WiFi as a default, unless it is not available, then uses cellular. According to your experience, do you think I could make phone calls using Medallion Net onboard?
Stan
Yes, the wifi calling feature worked very well with no problems. I'd just make sure your phone said wifi and not whatever the onboard cellular network is....

MedallionNet is great, almost like wifi at home. Wifi calling over MedallionNet works very well too.

Carnival is promising a new standard for internet access on it's ships.

Someone on the Royal right now just reported that the Platinum/Elite Lounge drinks are now 6.50, up from 5.00 and the drink menu has completely changed. New drinks: Boulevardiar, Mayan Mule, Port Lemonade, Mint Lemon Drop, Limon Mojito, Floradora, Cherry Blossom Garden, Deep Sea Martini.
We just got off the Ruby and yes, it's true.

The kids have laynards for their cruise cards where can we get them punched.
We bring our own punch....

Apparently somebody messed up when programming the data base linkages. Our total cruise days add up to our total future cruse days not our past total cruise days.
Yep...

A piece of advise. If you are going to Honfluer, make sure you do not need to use a bathroom while there. They are beyond horrible. I've seen abandoned out houses that were cleaner. I think there were porta potties in the parking lot so use one of those before going into town if you have to.
Not my experience at all. Clean but a wait at the visitor's center and we found another almost hidden one near the wooden church. European restrooms ARE a little different but we've seen dirtier at home...

My experience is that it depends on who is doing the security. If you are screened on the ship they will take liquor from you till the last day or direct you to check in your wine. If the screening is done in the port you can usually just indiscreetly carry it onboard.

We're Platinum now but the only pin we ever received was when we turned Ruby. Carnival on the other hand.......

I see oceanview and full suites also still available.
Interesting. Yesterday when I looked it said they were sold out. The April 8 TA I'm booked on said it was totally sold out but today interiors, OV and balconies are available...

You also get a tub, vs shower stall in mini and waaay more bathroom space.
.....not to mention an extra TV. The larger bathroom and shower is definitely a plus.

It's really $900 when you add in taxes and gratuities. Everything is sold out except for interiors. It's still a deal airfare may add about $500.

here is a link that should help explain categories:

I agree with Astro Flyer and cr8tiv1. For your first trip, definitely go through the historical old locks.
Also I strongly agree with the recommendation to read David McCullough's book The Path Between the Seas. It will add a lot to your understanding.
If you take a partial transit roundtrip from Fort Lauderdale, I recommend the Princess excursion that goes through the Pacific locks on a small boat. That way you will actually do a full transit even though your ship doesn't. Also you get a completely different view of the locks from a small boat than from the Panamax cruise ship.
I am going through the new locks on the Caribbean Princess in January, but only because I have already been through the old ones.
No to mention you can actually touch the lock's walls.

I never have trouble spending my OBC. My wife has it all spent as I am filling out the health forms at the pier.
Tony
My wife has no problem spending ours. Especially on cosmetics which you don't find discounted in the dept stores.

There are no "deals" on watches either onboard or in the Bahamas compared to some of the more trusted internet vendors.

Last year a friend and I returned our rental car to FLL, unfortunately the company he rented from didn't have a shuttle to the port. We ended up tipping a competing rental company's shuttle driver $10 and jumped on his bus...

A friend brought a case of wine on a 31 day cruise fully expecting to pay the corkage fee but he was never questioned. Guess enforcement is a little spotty...

If anyone is currently on the Ruby Princess (or going in the next week or two), could you check to see if the Camera Dept is carrying the Nikon Coolpix P900 digital camera. I know inventory changes each cruise and nothing can be counted on -- but I wonder if they ever carry the Coolpix P900. Thanks.
If you are thinking of buying one they are far cheaper from online websites...that is unless you have a pile of OBC that you need to use.

I'm intrigued by the duct tape. .
From the book and movie The Martian: " Not even NASA could improve on duct tape. It should be worshiped as a god"

Sail away!! Start of a great vacation!
Least favorite (but necessary) is the dreaded muster drill!

From Pam's "Being on the ship" to Lucky TOGO's "...with family and friends" there are so many enjoyable things. Just relaxing and letting the stresses of the real world fade away for a while...

One was in the cabin, the other one we had to wait on. Keep in mind they are sized to fit some not all...
-
They will charge you for anything.
.
Not necessarily so. On our first Princess cruise my wife came down with Noro. The medic came to our cabin, interviewed her and said he could run a bunch of tests that would cost but felt it was Noro and asked her to stay in the cabin till the next day. He sent in a team to deep clean the cabin twice. No charge for the cabin visit.

It's possible to dump the water out and fill it with Vodka and reseal the bottle.

If you purchase the unlimited plan AND if your phone supports wifi calling you'll be able to both make and receive calls. I'm not real sure about messaging unless you have an iPhone and are using iMessage. Those work fine.
