  1. I know the web site says there is one North American outlet and one European outlet and the ones in our cabin had two plug ins in each one just like the outlets in your wall at home.

    From the website...

There is one electric outlet in each stateroom located in the area of the desk/vanity.

The outlet is equipped with a 3-prong 110 volt (North America Grounded) and a 220 volt (Europe German-Style).

The outlet in the bathroom can only be used for electric razors.

On the Carnival Vista, there is one USB outlet (5 volt, 1000mA) in each stateroom.

  2. We had our very first cruise on the Magic in February and it was fantastic. We are also Canadian and we hot the twinrix shots and a flu shot but that was all. We also got the Cheers package and yes it includes the tips so you don't have to add any additional tips unless you want to. People are always saying tip the bartenders extra and they will look after you but we didn't find that. We did give extra tips to the servers that came around and asked them to remember us and come back but that didn't really help so in the long run wasn't worth it.

We didn't use a powerstrip we got a couple of those double USB adapters from Amazon and they worked great we were able to charge 4 devices at a time.

As for hotels pick something at Cocoa Beach most of the hotels offer shuttle service to the port and if they don't have hotel shuttles check out Mears Transportation

  3. We were on the Magic week of February 11 to 18 and our steward was wonderful however he did not offer us morning and evening service or give us a card. We chose evening service and hung up our towels after using them in the morning so that we could shower again before dinner. I have no complaints about the service and Charlie was friendly and always left us a towel animal and was super friendly whenever we saw him. As you may have guessed this was our first cruise and I was surprised that we weren't given the option to have twice a day service

  4. We were on the same cruise and I am really enjoying your review. We had YTD in Northern Lights but only ate in the dining room 3 times food and service was good every time we went. We also went to the Steakhouse for Valentine's Day dinner and it was worth the extra charge will definitely be going again on our next cruise which will also be on the Magic but not until February 2019

  5. In Sept. I will be paying almost 13.00/day prepaid gratuities...on 7 days, times approximately 3,000 people, that's approximately 275,000.00 given for tips....not sure how it is divided but some staff are salaried....As far as giving exta tip to room steward....can I ask....does anyone tip their cleaning lady if they stay in a hotel for more than 1 night? Probably not...I generally NEVER ask for ANYTHING from my room steward on the ship...last one NEVER even emptied the garbage? So I don't think so...If I do tip extra....IT WILL BE TO A BAR TENDER.....that's where it makes a difference...for me anyways....

    We always tip at hotels

  6. It matters to me. If they are charged everyday then I know not to go have them removed until the last night. The lines are longer but don't mind the wait as I'm platinum, I can use that line.

If they are charged day 2 then I can go at my leisure on day 3 when lines aren't that long and have them removed.;)

    Bill

Why would you remove the tips the staff rely on them as part of their wages

  7. You misunderstood. The person I was quoting was saying that the people who check your bags wouldn't notice so I asked why would THAT matter (if they can't tell) because it's still a fire hazard

I am on your side and agree 100%. Sorry if I wasn't clear

No one should bring a power cord with a surge suppressor, ever

My comment wasn't directed at you it was to everyone arguing about their rights to continue to us power bars with surge protectors because they always have.

  8. why would that matter if its a fire hazard?

People the US Coast Guard doesn't make up rules and regulations just for fun. There are real safety concerns involved with using a surge protector on a ship. Please do your due diligence and make sure that the power bar or any other device you bring to charge your electronics meets those regulations.

  9. If you don't need built-in USB chargers a super cheap plug like this is very light for your luggage and works well.

At the store I bough this and also a cube-shaped tap and ended up using both; one on the vanity and one in the spare outlet behind the TV.

BTW, I didn't know about the ban on surge suppressors. I've never bought one before but I had thought about buying a splitter with built-in USB. Now I know which types not to buy.

It's not so much a ban as a US Coast Guard safety regulation. A surge protector can cause a fire on a ship because of the way they are wired.

    http://www.uscg.mil/tvncoe/Documents/safetyalerts/SurgeProtectiveDevices.pdf

And to the poster that said I don't care I use this particular device all the time I hope you will put the safety of everyone else on the ship before yourself and go shopping and buy something else to use.

  10. I don't bring one. But if I did - it wouldn't have a surge protector and it would look like this:

    http://www.amazon.com/GE-Heavy-Duty-3-Outlet-54203/dp/B000EU4HBO?ie=UTF8&keywords=power%20splitter&qid=1461510727&ref_=sr_1_14&sr=8-14

I did a lot of research on this and bought the 3 prong plug in and a multiport USB charger that does not have a built in surge protector. If you shop on amazon contact the supplier and ask them to confirm that it doesn't have surge protection built into it before you order it. If you tell them why you are asking they are more than happy to help. Remember this is a USCG safety regulation and it's important to the safety of everyone on the ship.
