  1. I believe that once a ship enters international waters, they are all duty free.

Not sure about iPods, etc. but you can buy Go-Pro cameras and accessories on board.

International waters you say? How very intriguing. Thank you very much.

  2. DH did this in November on the Glory, and he really liked it. He went with our friend who was cruising with us, and the two of them couldn't stop talking about it.

This tour was offered at two departure times, on the last sea day, but at the last minute -- the day before -- they combined both groups because they didn't have enough passengers signed up to fill both.

Did you know that new waiters start out in the crew dining room, and once they've mastered that, they move on to room service? And, eventually, the main dining room.

    Thank you.

  3. Dulcimergirl covered it the highlights very well. I will add you sign up at the excursions desk and I suggest you do it very soon after you board. Usually there is only one tour of between 12-16 people, it is held on the last sea day and begins about 8:30. Occasionally they will do two tours but that is not the norm. My husband has done the tour three times. (different classes of ships)

    Thank you.

  4. It is well worth the money, if your at all interested in the ship workings and crew.

It is a long tour, and you visit so much of the ship I'm not going to list it here. No, you can't smuggle a camera or phone in. You have to wear closed toe shoes.

    You visit

    stage area,

    food prep area's

    food storage area

    laundry

    crew dining room

    crew training center

    I 95

    crew lounge

    Galley

    Engine control room

    Bridge

I know there are more areas but this is a quick list. They take several photos, and will bring them to your cabin. You get a chance to chat with someone at every stop.

A lot of stairs, so be prepared. You are escorted by security also..

I've done it many times, and even more than once on the same ship. I learn something new every time.

When they stroll you up I 95 take a look at the maps on the wall. I was most impressed with them. A complete layout of the ship. I wish I could buy one somewhere. lol

    I'm a bit of a "ship" geek.

Thank you very much for that info. Much appreciated.

  5. Just wondering how many people here have done the Behind the Fun Tour on Legend from Sydney recently (past 2 months).

    Was it worth it?

When is it done? (beginning or end of cruise)

What areas of the ship were visited?

What areas did you want to visit, but were told they were strictly off limits?

Did anyone manage to be able to sneak a camera or anything on the tour?

and, anything else you may want to tell me.

    Cheers,

    Dave.

  6. Just looking at the Carnival website, you guys may actually be right. $85/night for an upgrade does appear a rather steep. I hadn't really calculated it until now. ($899 for an interior room vs. a balcony room for $1099). That would make a balcony room $1949!!! $1099+(85*10) =$1949.

Maybe it was an upgrade for a total of $85. Does that sound better? I'll get in touch with her, check and get back to y'all.

Thanks everyone so far with the replies.

    Cheers

    Dave.

  7. That seems like a very expensive upgrade offer, I would do a mock booking and see if it is a deal or not.

Expensive? I would have thought that $85 per night to upgrade from a interior to a balcony was a good deal. seems I was was mistaken. Thanks for the tip.

  8. Hello friends ,

So a friend of mine, who is cruising with us got an email from Carnival offering her an upgraded stateroom for an additional $85/night. She is currently booked into an internal room on deck 8 with no outside views whatsoever. She was offered an upgrade to a balcony room. Does anybody here know what the chances are of her being upgraded to "worse" room (balcony with obstructed views, or the like)? Does Carnival do these "upgrades" for any particular reason? What are the chances that she would be moved to a completely different level of the ship (say deck 8 all the way down to deck 4, for example)?

I only ask, because I wouldn't want her to get shafted by Carnival for their gain and her loss.

    Cheers in advance

    Dave

P.S. While I do realise that an upgrade is an upgrade no matter how you look at it, I just wouldn't like it if she found her first cruise to be a disappointment because she thought she was getting a good upgrade deal only to find that the "upgrade" is as bad, or worse than what she originally booked.

    Cheers again.

  9. Hi MulletGutts,

Welcome to Cruise Critic and to cruising.:) The answer is yes, it is possible to get extra chairs for your balcony, if they will fit on your balcony and if you ask your room steward on embarkation day for specifically what you want and if he makes it happen. I know that's a lot of ifs, but I wanted to let you know it has been done. We stayed in an extended balcony (Deck 8, midship on Pride, a Spirit class ship), and there was plenty of room for 2 loungers, a chair, and a table. Also, when staying in an Ocean Suite with our children, we request an additional reclining lounger if when we arrive there are only 2 chairs. Our request has always been obliged.

Just check your balcony size and the number of provided chairs upon embarkation, then, based on the space on the balcony, make your request if you so choose. Happy sails!:)

Thank you for the welcome and thank very much for the information. I will ensure that I check and make any requests known as soon as I can.

    Thanks again

    Dave.

  10. G'day guys and Gals,

As above, a bit of a noobie question, but I was wondering if it is possible to get more chairs bought to your room for use on your balcony. From what I can gather, each of the balcony rooms have two chairs and a table. I will have three adults and one child staying in my cabin, and as we will regularly retreat to our room we'd like to be able to all sit out on the deck.

    Cheers in advance

    Dave
