  1. Puzzled - drinking adult beverages at the bar to make up soda package price? The unlimited soda price is $8.50 per day plus gratuity. If you bought the all-inclusive drink package just to get soda you paid WAY too much. We just get the soda package since we don't drink enough for the all-inclusive to be worthwhile. Most of the ships we have been on do not have the freestyle machines (and they often aren't working fully on those that have them).

No I bought it to have freestyle coke (cherry Coke Zero) and some adult beverages plus the pkg included internet. Since they didn’t have a freestyle machine nor did they offer Coke Zero ... I made it up by drinking only adult beverages.

  2. I ordered the drink package anticipating having the FREESTYLE COKE machines. I was sadly disappointed. The Vision of the Seas doesn’t have the machine on board. I was told I could get my drinks at any bar. However I drink Cherry Coke Zero. They don’t have Coke Zero only Diet Coke. Any Coke Zero it Diet Coke drinker will tell you THESE ARE NOT THE SAME ... after spending the amount I did on the drink package I decided since I couldn’t have my herry Coke Zero... I made up for it by drinking my package price in adult beverages from the bar. Good thing I’m not a tea totaler.

  3. Chakanaab is where we went. Daughter SWAM with the Dolphins. Husband and I did the Manatee encounter. Once we arrived at the park we were offered an upgrade for $30 each we could all participate in each others adventure/encounter which included the buffet (btw buffet alone was around $13) PICTURES ARE EXPENSIVE! But since you can't take your own camera into the water what choice do you have IF you want to capture the moment. Once in a lifetime I fed the manatees and hugged a Dolphin ... Yes I BOUGHT ALL OUR PICTURES!!! [emoji16][emoji383][emoji171][emoji227] 761cdb37d9d90395b77c7fc343cd5e71.jpg

  4. We did the ATV and Cavetubing ... I would definitely recommend one or the other but not both due to time. Cavetubing would be my preference. It was awesome.

  5. We were also on the Getaway 5/15 - 5/22. We did the speciality dining packages. We had dinner at Teppanyaki, Moderno, Cagneys, The Illusionarium and La Cucina. Let me know if you have any questions about any of those.

  6. First hand review... We just came back Sunday May 22. We did it and loved it. We booked through Native Tours who I will HIGHLY RECOMMEND. Elena and Habner were our guide and driver. They were absolutely AWESOME!!! The van was comfortable clean and air conditioned. Elena was very friendly and knowledgable about the area. She offered to stop at the local town vendors to get coconut water, mango, and pineapple. If you like any of these, you MUST try it. The bags are only $1 each and the water is $1 as well. The pineapple is SO SWEET. We arrived at the lagoon after about 45 minute ride. The last part of the ride is down a dirt road so it is a little bumpy. The grounds were pristine. We were given time to use the restroom and change. The lagoon was beautiful. I am a breast cancer survivor and only have 6 months from my last surgery. Elena waited patiently for me to bring up the rear. It wasn't difficult.... I was just slower than the others in my group. After about an hour or so on the water, we returned to the beach. We were treated to wonderful Pina Coladas and an awesome lunch. We had about 30-45 minutes after lunch to enjoy the beach. The gentleman in our group had brought his snorkeling gear and went snorkeling while we girls enjoyed laying on the beach. We were loaded back into the van for our leisurely ride back to port. I love Elena and Habner and NATIVE TOURS!!!

  7. We purchased the ATV and Cave Tubing combination. For those in our group with the ATV or Zip line combined with cave tubing, we went past the area for those straight to cave tubing. The guides were great. We had Barry as our guide. Cavetubing.bz was the only group who didn't have to trek through the jungle with our tubes. I thought that was very nice we were able to pick up our tubes just before entering the water. We were offered the opportunity to take a little swim before and after our cave tubing tour to enjoy the cool water. Our groups were loaded back onto the bus after being allowed time to change into dry clothes and started back to the lunch area. Once we got back to the ATV and Zip lining area, the 3 in my group were dropped off. We spent about 30 minutes waiting as there was another group using the ATVs. I do not remember our ATV guides name but he was very nice and took pictures for us with my phone on our ride. When we were through, we had to wait about 30 minutes for a ride back to the lunch area. The owner was there waiting with us. When we got back to the lunch area we had wonderful rum punch and the lunch was awesome. When we finished eating, I asked the owner Mr. Vitalino Reyes, how much longer before we would be taken back to Port. He assured me 10-15 minutes. While waiting, one if the girls who took our cash payments, came over to me and said I had only paid for two people when we had paid before venturing off to our tours. I told her no I had paid the balance of $240 in cash for the three of us. She didn't argue but went back over talking to other staff and Mr. Reyes. Of course paying cash I had no receipt. But I would recommend asking for one to others in case there are "any questions later". After waiting almost an hour and a half, seeing several vans come and go, I finally insisted we be allowed on the bus getting ready to leave. Although it was a group from the Carnival and not the Getaway, I knew they were headed back to port. Due to all the waiting, we had little to no time to spend purchasing souvenirs. I will not recommend that anyone do the combinations due to the time we spent sitting and waiting for transportation. The tours were great and the tour guides very friendly. The waiting for transportation was stressful making us fearful that we would not make it back to port in time to make the last tender to the ship.

  8. Slightly off topic... there is a lot to look at for the Star. You seem to be an active poster (603 posts) so I'd assume you know your way around CC. Here's some links:

NCL Star specific search - Lists threads involving the Star

My NCL Star Guide and Review - from 1/31-2/7/16; also includes the Freestyle Dailies, most menus, and pictures on Google Docs.

Also some great reviews by FlyingCruiserNJ and others recently.

    Hi Angelo_R

I'm a Newbie and if you have any links for the NCL Getaway ... I would love to have those. We have a May booking and I am trying to do my research. Thank you in advance.

  9. Yes, though if it's busy you'll get quite a few angry looks as you ask the machine to make you cup after cup of coffee. Your Yeti won't fit under the spigot so grab a mug and use that to transfer it.

    Thanks Valen9

I will ask for the carafe to be brought to our room [emoji16]. Not worried about the angry looks lol without my coffee [emoji477]️ THEY will be getting the angry looks from me [emoji23]

  10. Hi Cruisers,

I've been reading and reading since booking my 3/27 cruise a few months ago and like many of you, making lists/spreadsheets/plans in order to maximize my relaxing vacation once on board! I thought I'd share the tips that I know will be helpful to me on this trip and might be to you as well! Feel free to add to this, I'm sure there are more great tips/hacks out there! Thanks to all previous cruisers for their advice, it really makes such a difference. :)

    1. Take a picture of passports on smartphones

    2. Bring sea bands for kids (first time cruisers, no idea how they'll react to motion of the ocean ;))

    3. Pack power strip for phone/ipad/camera chargers

    4. Bring bag for dirty clothes to keep them separate

    5. Put cruise ship luggage tags in carry on to attach the morning of cruise. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B019HLKJSA?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00

    6. Bring small magnets to attach dailies and other paperwork to doors

    7. Pack lanyards for ID cards and have Guest Services hole punch them during embarkation.

    8. Bring bugspray with DEET to repel those nasty diseased skeeters

    9. Activate iConcierge app at port and connect to ship wifi - DS and I can text for $8/device.

    10. Check out hot tub on Deck 13 forward, I think I read this one is not very crowded in evenings.

    11. Go aft to Versailles for bkfst to avoid crowds

    12. Button to activate light in closet is at eye level in the back, some people evidently couldn't locate and complained about lack of lighting in closets.

    13. Double check OBC, my UBP and kids soda packages are listed during boarding

    14. Can request a foam pad for bed if too hard

    15. You loved caipirinhas on your last cruise, make sure you try one immediately after boarding :D

    16. Try the Cote de Boeuf Pour Deux at Le Bistro

    17. Bring confirmation emails to all excursions (booked 3rd party)

Just a few tidbits - I hope they help some of you too! Happy Cruising!

Thanks for the tidbits and the link ... Just ordered my cruise luggage tags [emoji16]
