  1. Will be on first NCL cruise in a few weeks, but it is not my first cruise. From reading posts here, it seems that you need a reservation/ticket to see the shows at night. Is this correct? If so, when/how do you make a reservation? This has not been the case on any of my previous cruises.

Going on short 4-day to Bahamas on July 16 on the Sun.

    TYA!

  2. I just found this thread...what memories. My first cruise was also on the Carnivale, not sure the year, but early 80’s. I remember how beautiful the ship was with the wooden stair rails and all the grandness of an old ship—all gleaming dark wood throughout. I had an inside cabin that was so small, you could barely turn around...my husband and I had upper and lower berths—it was all we could afford at the time. But, I was hooked!! I love cruising. I miss the midnight buffets with the ice sculptures and I miss the waiters marching in with baked Alaska’s on their heads and them standing around the dining room singing to us. Cruising has certainly changed through the years, but my love of cruising has only grown! Here’s to many wonderful cruises for all of us!!

  3. The Epic Miami is wonderful with a great view. It has a completely "Miami" vibe, amazing restaurants and bars . I always see someone famous in the elevator.

The Miami Marriott Marquis is across the street. More of a business vibe, but a great bar downstairs and some great restaurants. The IC has the view, but the other two have a better overall experience. If you do stay at the IC, next store is a great restaurant, El Gabbiano. Reservations are a must. Great Italian food.

    Thank you!

  4. Last October we stayed at the InterContinental for our cruise. When I made the reservation I asked for a bay side high floor room. When I arrived at check in I was told that I had been upgraded at no additional charge and that, "I think you'll like your room." I was given the top floor corner penthouse facing the port! The view was stunning and the accommodations spectacular! Once in a lifetime upgrade, I know, but my wife and I truly appreciated and enjoyed our stay!

There are many restaurants near the hotel, and the restaurants in the hotel are also excellent.

That’s a great surprise!! I know you enjoyed it!

  5. Here is a list of hotels I recommend in Miami. It represents a wide range of pricing.

In terms of overall value, I would recommend Hampton Inn.

We spend about one week in Miami each year before a cruise.

Not knowing your price point that you want to spend on a room I will give you several selections; some of which have been mentioned.

They are all within about one mile of each other.

    Close to the Port:

    Intercontinental

Marriott Maquis (about four years old)

Epic Hotel (priciest of the ones I am mentioning)

Holiday Inn (some like it but I would recommend the other two)

Hyatt (I like the location better of the first three even though it is close by)

These hotels are about five minutes from the port. Near restaurants and CVS Pharmacy which is good to pick up last minute items and near a Whole Foods.

Just a couple of minutes further from the port

Mandarin Oriental (priciest of the ones mentioned). Private man made beach.

About 10 minutes from the port or maybe 15 depending on traffic but relatively close so no worries.

    JW Marriott

    Conrad Hilton

East Miami (relative new hotel so doesn't get mentioned much and is near the new Brickell Centre. More on Brickell in a moment.)

And then just another few minutes away

Four Seasons (like Mandarin a bit pricier then most I've listed) but in a very quiet location.

Hampton Inn (a lot of value here. It is not a full service hotel but it is a nice Hampton and includes breakfast)

The last group of hotels I have mentioned starting with Mandarin Oriental and ending with Hampton Inn are near lots of restaurants.

There is Mary Brickell Village and right near there are lots of restaurants (for Italian I like Perricone's) and also near two CVS Pharmacies (JW Marriott right next to a 24 hour one) and near Publix (there are two in the area) where you can pick up lots of last minute items.

Then there is the new Brickell Centre which opened last in 2016. Lots of stores and restaurants.

I have stayed at some of these hotels and have been inside each and everyone.

Again, they represent a wide range of price points.

Thanks for the help here! I am needing to book hotel in Miami soon too. This thread is helping!

  6. Hi Musicallanne,

The last time I stayed in Miami to pick up a cruise ship O stayed at the Intercontinental Downtown, it is a lovely hotel and you can see some of the cruise ships berhed in the port. I am joining the Equinox in Miami for a cruise in Febuary and have just booked for the intercontinental again, it is really near the port and within walk distance of Bayside which has lots of nice restaurants and there are also restaurants just accross the road from the hotel. An excellent choice if joing a ship as only 5 mins taxi ride from the terminal building.

    Hope that Helps

    Gareth

Thank you! It does. We’re on the Equinox in January. Have a great cruise!

  7. Looking for recommendations for a great place to stay that is maybe close enough to the Port of Miami that you can see the cruise ships. Is that possible? Don’t like cheap...I like a nice place...preferably with restaurants and a bar. Also, is there anywhere close by that you would recommend for dinner?

Thank you for the help; Cruise Critics always come through for me!

  8. It is covered under the Premium Drink Package limit. Initially the special cocktails were include on a page on the Luminae Dinner menu. Now, I believe they are listed in a section of the wine list.

I have tried all the special ones and this one is my favorite.

I’ve got to try it! Thanks for letting me know about it!!
