  1. We are sailing on the Pearl out of NOLA March 18th. My question is we have an inside cabin through a casino offer. We bid on a ocean view and a balcony on December 30th. This particular cruise is booked up and no longer accepting bookings. Does this mean there will be no opportunity to upgrade since the ship is booked? We are ok either way because we picked a room just steps away from the Atrium and outside deck. But it would be nice to have a view.

    Thank you

  2. This question comes up frequently and this is my standard answer:

The worry warts will all start the negativity and list every possible tragedy including global thermal nuclear war as reasons not to book before 11am. The reality is that you are taking a domestic flight out of a small easy to navigate airport. Traffic on a Sunday morning should be light and cabs will be plentiful. As long as you don't dawdle off the ship you should be fine. What airline and airport are you flying to?

    See this previous thread:

Is a 10:45am flight home possible?

We are flying out of Louis Armstrong airport on Southwest. I don't mind a 1:15 flight it was the lay over time that put us home 4 hrs later.

  3. I assume your coming from Miami and flying out of FLL. We were scheduled in port at 8:00am on the Escape. We were in port by 6:00am. We walked off the ship at 7:10am and we had a shuttle get us to FLL by 8:20am. Our flight was 10:45am. You shouldn't have any problems.

No, the New Orleans port coming off Norwegian Dawn.

  4. Just got off the phone with a Norwegian representative who said the time they usually advise is flights 12:00 and later for a port arrival time of 8:00.

However, she said if we do the express checkout and carry our own bags off right at the disembarkation time that the 11:15 would be fine since the cab ride to the airport is approximately 30 minutes. We are doing the early bird check-in with Southwest but will have bags to check in. So I think 3.15 hours should be enough to get there, check our bags and get through TSA.

If we have a late arrival to port things could change but then the 1:15 may not be good enough either.

    It's all a crap shoot.

    :D:D

  5. Our options for flight back home after disembarkation is 11:15 or 1:15. We are to dock at 8:00. We would rather do the earlier but worried if we dock late we won't make our flight. We would do the self-disembarkation and take a cab. We booked the 1:15 but there is a $200+ price difference and would like to take the earlier......would you do the 11:15???? Appreciate any input.

  6. I appreciate this post. I've been feeling jittery about our September cruise since the terrorism in Nice. But not planning to cancel. It helps to read others feelings on the subject. Interesting reading people's perception on how safe the USA is. I always have felt very safe here and view Europe as less safe but do not want a debate. Good sailing to everyone 😊😊😊

  7. You're welcome!

I also book with Costco. They give obc based on the cost of the cruise and your cabin category. I have two cruises booked with balconies, and the obc for the two of them is $595. This is in addition to whatever promo the cruise line has going.

Yes we booked a couple cruises with Priceline cruises and used their promos and the cruise line promos. I use Costco sometimes for travel, they have the best rental car rates.

I did check the Costco website for excursions but didn't see any options to book excursions I will go back and search for the option.

  8. This is the site for RIL tourshare..

    http://romeinlimotoursharing.com/

We organized via roll call then used this to get signups and fill out groups.

When we did it in 2012, it was 500 Euros for a van that held up to 8, I would recommend 6 or 7 for comfort for the smaller vans used in Amalfi coast, if thats under consideration.

If you set up Rome, ask for Maurizio and let them find a Vatican guide for you. Ours was amazing.

We really want a knowledgeable guide do you get this with the shared Limo tours. If all they are doing is driving around I'm a little concerned. If the driver is knowledgeable or they have a guide with them it's great.

  9. Several years ago we did a private wine tasting with 2 other couples. The tour was one we could just join, we didn't have to put it together on the roll call. It was wonderful!

We went to 3 vineyards, had an overlook photo stop and had lunch in a small village (on our own). It was a great trip.

How did you find the tour you could join without the roll call? The pics are great and I luv wine. Sherry

  10. When are you going Wawa? We sail on July 10th. I am having a bit of a rough time with Cannes and Marseille too.

The one tour with NCL we like for Cannes seems like too much walking...the Cannes walk with monastery wine tasting. So I think we will just stroll around Cannes (seems to be an easy and convenient) and maybe take a ferry over to Île Sainte-Marguerite. I have read ferries run every half our or so and cost 15euros.

Marseille we are going with the ship tour for Les Baux. Our big/long days are Rome and Naples...so these two ports are recovery days. We still want to see stuff, but a more laid back pace.

    Jewelmick,

We are going September 18th and can't wait. We were also thinking a little more low key but worried we'll miss something haha. Well probably need a vaca to recover from our vaca. Still debating tours..it's safe to do NCL but their itinerary not totally what I'm looking for...we will see. Give me a shout out when you get back with your suggestions 🗼🗼🗼

  11. Hi Sherry,

Haven't been on CBM Tours (yet!), but I've booked them for Naples/Pompeii/Sorrento for our cruise in July - I've read a few 1* reviews on TripAdvisor for that tour: it can be up to 40 people, each coach might be 30 people? Again, it might depends on when you go as to their busy-ness. That doesn't bother me as much, but it might factor into consideration for you.

For Rome, reading 1* reviews, it seem like the tour sizes were around 20? I'm planning on DIY in Rome as I don't want to be at San Pietro station at around 4:30pm when rush hour commute starts, let's hope that goes well. There are YouTube videos and port guides and Tripadvisor guides showing you how to get from ship to port gates using the shuttle, then to the Civitaccechia train station. Hoping to save some $$ here as it's 12 euros for day pass and metro.

Maybe the people who've done this can provide some input on how doable it is to reach the train station by oneself??

For Livorno/Florence/Pisa - I'm guessing that's the three port combo? Their website said 8 person semi-private tour, but in peak season it can be up to 20-24 people on the tour.

Check with CBM as they might be able to offer a discount (although apparently not for Livorno??)

Planning to do Livorno either by shared cab or DIY again. Does anyone know if NCL still offers the shuttle to train station or city centre? If so how much are they charging?

And I've heard there are cabbies outside in Livorno port that if you share with other people, it works to 40 euros per peson? Is this still true or has the price gone up?

    Seininya,

I talked to CBM tours and they will start a shuttle ride into Rome instead of the train starting in two weeks because of the request from their cruisers. It is addl 30 euros though. Just FYI 😊😊

  12. Prefer smaller groups probably 20 or less. I think we are going with "can't be missed tours" in Italy. Looked into Italytoursharing.com but even with up to 16 passengers the price was steep. We are not going on the cheap but I value my dollar. Love to do walking tours more than sitting looking out a window all day but a mix is great. I will check out the France port of call forum. Thank you Loonbeam.

  13. Hello all:

We are cruising on the EPIC in September(Western Mediterranean out of Barcelona) and basically have our excursion company/tours picked out for the stops in Italy.

However, I am at a loss for Cannes & Marseilles. I did look at NCL and we really would like to look at other tours before we make our decision. I know that Cannes is a tender port and may go with NCL only because it makes transfers smoother.

    Really interested in seeing Eze.

    Thank You

    Sherry

  14. We have used, Cant be missed, for tours in Naples and Rome, we were very pleased with both tours.

Thinking about using CBM tours and want to find out how large the groups are. They have a three port combo. Also, out of Rome is it a little complicated to get to the train station to meet them or not? Also, do you think you received a great overall tour or did you miss some key sites.

    Thank you

    Sherry

  15. Booked the 7 day Western and paid for balcony upgrade. I thought since it's the first time it may be worth it. The Ocean view wasn't an option?. Maybe the ship? EPIC? We were also able to get promos too "Free at Sea". I love scenery so I am hoping that wasn't a mistake. We will sail in September. Your advise is invalid me..so greatful.

  16. We recently received a complimentary 7 day cruise with Norwegian and have never been to Europe and we have the choice to do the 7-day Western Mediterranean or the 7 day Adriatic, Greece & Turkey from Venice or the 7 day Greek Isles from Venice.

We can even do the two Greek Isles or Adriatic back to back if we want to because we received two offers.

I really would like to see Italy and France so the 7 day Western from Barcelona sounds great but being we have never been to Europe any cruise would be wonderful. Would anyone that has been on these cruises have a preference or advise on what would be a better option for us. We really are torn and any input would be so much appreciated.

    Thank You.:):)
