We were there last week and Rented a UTV from Arubiana,  had no issues with the rental process or the equipment.   We did the 8 hour rental,  only thing i would chnage would be to not do the far end (baby beach)  just too long of a drive on paved roads through towns.  From the lighthouse to the Natural Bridge was amazing.  i wish we had turn around at the Bridge and drove back around the way we came and stopped at more places instead of continuing on.  That being said,  we drove over the entire island and had no issues on roads.

Hi Jgarriso!  Were you able to drive into the Arikok national park?  I've read that they aren't allowing UTV's in there now, unless with a tour.  I was trying to determine last night if the natural bridge is in the park or not.  It looked like it could be based on the map I was looking at.  I'd love more details on your day!

Today the only thing I wanted to do was head over to Gordo Lele’s for a couple of tacos. If you want to get away from the touristy spots, google him and head to his place. 2 Carne Asada tacos and a beer....about $4.30

crzndeb - did you make it to Gordo Lele's?  Was he open?  I had read a comment somewhere awhile back that he needed heart surgery in the fall.  If that's true, we hope he got/gets the medical attention he needs!!  We'll be in Cabo soon and are looking forward to some of his tacos if it works out.

  3. Up to $600 off Fun Select Rates + Up to $100 Onboard Credit

    Book by June 30, 2015

Valid on select Carnival Journeys sailings through January 2016

    Request fare code OJY

The OP mentioned the above offer (I don't know why but I wasn't able to "quote"). A friend of mine received this as well. It says it's for new bookings. We've been booked for a year. Has anyone tried/had luck receiving the offer (or at least the OBC) if you're already booked?

  4. We were on the Miracle the end of April. I'm not sure if all the new shows had been added by April 25th after the supposed 2.0 upgrades. I can take or leave the shows so I'm not sure what the shows are supposed to be. I did see 88 Keys and Getaway Island and liked them. I also went to the Love and Marriage Show. It's always fun to watch.

I'm replying in hopes of being helpful. If our trip was an anomaly due to recent upgrades I apologize!

They were advertising (verbally) some nonsense about how staggering the times gave everyone a chance to see the shows. It didn't make sense to me - say if you have late seating what does it matter if you see 88 Keys on Monday or on Tuesday. I don't know if it would help YTD - haven't given that any thought. If there's a show you don't want to miss just plan accordingly.

This sailing the Welcome Aboard show was once at 7:30. Sunday Getaway Island was at 8:15 and 88 Keys was at 10:15. Monday those two switched - 88 Keys at 8:15 and Getaway Island at 10:15. Tuesday was one show - Hasbro 8:15. Maybe we were missing a show cuz on Wednesday the Love & Marriage Show was at 10:15. They did have The Liars Club and Bingo before the show. I suppose the schedule could have been such because we were in Puerto Vallarta until 8pm. Thursday Heart of Soul was at 8:15 and 80s Pop to the Max was at 10:15. Friday night the two shows switched times.

We were also on the Miracle last October. The shows were not this way. There was also a different CD so that could possible be the difference.

I haven't sailed on the Sunshine so I cannot comment about your YTD question.

Embark/debarkation went smoothly in all ports. In fact, when we returned to Long Beach they started the process early and quite quickly to get the next group on before the storm came in.

Five years ago we were on the Splendor (out of LB). We departed on the 4th. I don't recall any celebration of note.

    Enjoy your cruise!

  5. I take my own. One cruise we had driven to port. My hair dryer was in our luggage we set out the night before we had to debark. The morning we had to leave I washed my hair and just planned on letting it air dry since we were just going to be in the car. It gets pretty wild/fluffy/wavy/messy when left to its own devices. For some reason we were ready to debark but they hadn't released the ship yet. DH and sons were out on the balcony (door closed). I thought I'd use the hair dryer while we were waiting. Well - that darn thing sucked in a bunch of my hair! Wouldn't you know it - that darn thing is fastened tight inside that drawer! I tried hollering at DH but he couldn't hear me. Finally I got hold of something and threw it at the balcony door.

  6. I'm planning to do a bioluminous tour that is only available at night. I have friends that did it and they say it's absolutely gorgeous and considered one of the natural wonders of the world. I'll be there next week so if you are interested I can provide feedback when I get home.

I would love to hear about it. Someone I'm travelling with checked into it and said they only thing he could find required an overnight - maybe on a little close by island??? I don't remember exactly. I can't wait to hear about your experience!

  7. There are two water taxi's. You want the one which is west of where you dock. It is next to the restaurant, La Puntaria ( spelt something like that ) After you are dropped off, it is less than a ten minute walk. The is usually a taxi waiting at the other side, if you dont feel like walking.

Thanks - that would explain it :) After the third time I mentioned going there on our next cruise he told me it was awful getting there and what a hike it was and he didn't think he could do it (hip and knee problems). Everyone here makes it sound so easy to get there I figured there had to be more to the story!

  8. Second the recommendation of Stone Island and Lety's. We were there 2 weeks ago. Water taxi was a short walk from the cruise terminal and cost $10 US for 4 of us roundtrip. Spent several relaxing hours at Lety's with good food and several cold Pacificos.

How long was the walk from where the water taxi drops you to Lety's? My husband says it took him an hour to get to Victor's. This was a number of years ago. That doesn't seem right - maybe the water taxi dropped him off at the wrong spot??? He says he wasn't lost and didn't walk in circles!

  9. So what others have reported about connecting cabins is not always true? You had connecting cabins and the balconies were opened also.

Others had posted in some threads that if you have connecting cabins, then the balcony dividers cannot be opened.

We've also had extended afts on the Miracle twice and have not been allowed to open the divider. They said something about it hindering the structural stability or something like that. However, on the Spirit (before she went down under) we had an aft and the divider was opened.........

  10. I see 2 problems with 5168. If you want 5168 because it is an adjoining cabin, then your friends would book 5166? 5166 has the high lifeboat in front of it so your friends' balcony would really be obstructed and would have little to no view.

Also, 5168 is right next to the high lifeboat so the view to the right on your balcony would be obstructed.

When cruising with friends, the ideal is to book 2 balconies next to each other that open up. That way, you can visit on your balconies and have an extra long balcony to share.

We sailed on the sister ship Miracle with friends. We had 5167 and 5169 which are starboard instead of port. These pictures should give you an idea of what to expect.

  11. We did this tour while on Grand Cayman on January 23rd. We enjoyed our time and the food. The tour represents the wide cultural diversity of the island. Our first stop was at Guy Harvey's for a fish (I think it was snapper) with a nice sauce (very tasty and mild), beans and rice and plantain. (It was the best plantain we had on the whole trip.) From there we stopped at the National Museum for a taste of an artisanal pepper jelly made locally and a nice cold tea made from a blend of leaves. From there we visited a place that makes roti - a split pea flour wrap (very thin and like philo dough) filled with a mix of spinach, potato and pumpkin. Don't "turn your nose up" on this filling. It was very good. We also could use the two spicy sauces on the roti. (I passed on these as the pepper jelly was more than I could handle.) We also had a few ounces of a local beer with our roti. Then it was on to the Tortuga rum and rum cake outlet. We sampled both along with a very good fruit punch. Our last stop was at Casonova's on the Sea. This is an Italian restaurant. We had a very good creamy tomato and basil sauce over pasta and chicken. There was Italian bread available. Our food tour ended with dessert - a marvelous tiramisu. None of the tastings were full size portions but we did not leave the tour hungry.

As we moved from place to place we visited various spots highlighting local history and culture. Marzetta, the owner, was our guide. She clearly loved what she does and the history and culture of the Cayman Islands. It was very hot with full sun the day we were there. Marzetta did her best to keep the pace easy and the walking and commentary in the shade.

The entire tour was on level ground. Our starting place was about three, maybe four, blocks from the tender piers. OUr last stop was about two blocks from the tender piers.

She gave us fliers with all the details of our tour. It also had coupons for each place we visited for a discount should you want to return and purchase something.

We recommend this tour as something different and educational to do while in George Town.

Thank you for coming back and posting this review!

  12. I just got back from Bonaire and we had a group of 10 do the Twizzy Tour. All 10 of us LOVED it! And nowhere else in the Caribbean can you do this!

They are small, two-seater, electric cars. They go up to 60 mph and are SO FUN to drive!!! We paid $55 per person and all think this tour was the best money spent throughout the cruise!

Hans, the owner/operator, was an awesome tour guide. Very informative! He's straight from Germany, so his English isn't perfect, but he's totally understandable.

We had plenty of stops for pictures, we stopped at a local distillery for some cactus liquor tasting, we stopped at the flamingo sanctuary in the National Park, and we stopped at the Eden/Spice Beach Club at the end for some AWESOME snorkeling and swimming. Delicious food and a full bar were available for lunch too!

This does sound like fun! Is there much room inside - like for someone tall or someone overweight? Are the seats one in front of the other? If so can the person in back see very much? I didn't find any helpful pictures on the website.

    Thanks, Sherry

  13. Cosmo Cruiser......my thoughts are with you and your husband!

We sailed on the Splendor out of Miami on 1/11/15. It was out 26th cruise and we have never sailed without insurance. Never in the past have we used one penny of insurance. I am right now sitting in the Broward County hospital in Ft Lauderdale Florida while my husband is critically ill in the ICU unit. We have been here 8 days and it looks like it could be weeks until we are even able to consider going home. My husband had a heart attack 9 hours after getting on board. We used the infirmary on board ($2000+) then they diverted the ship to Freeport (not somewhere we were supposed to go) so we could be taken off by a smaller transport boat (40 minutes by boat to the nearest land) He was transported to a hospital in Freeport where he was for 12 hours while he was stabilized. He was then medi-vac flight to Ft Lauderdale. He aspirated on the medi-vac flight and it has been down hill from there. I have paid for cruise insurance on every cruise we have been on and the medi-vac flight alone is more money than I have paid for insurance over the years in total. We are looking at 12K JUST for that flight alone. 26 cruises times approx $200 each trip is only $5400. Approx cost of 2 cruises but still less than half of the medi-vac flight we took one week ago today!

I am reading cruise critic to keep my mind off what is going on around me. I wouldn't wish this situation on my worst enemy. Buy the insurance.......even if yu never use it is peace of mind. This situation could bankrupt a family in very short order. We are well into 6 figures already and no where near done. Yes we also thought he was healthy and it wouldn't happen........don't kid yourself, it can happen to anyone. Illness, injury, heart attack, trip and fall. Trust me when I say you do not want your loved one in a hospital outside of the US, the care that is available is not what you would want or expect. Getting them back to the US can be critical and time can be a huge issue.
