  1. We are sailing on the Cloud over the holidays this year.  This thread has been really helpful.  I am thinking of buying two "ugly"  holiday sweaters to wear, haha!  But in reality, I have a couple of sweaters and a couple of blouses that I will bring for dinner tops, other than that, layers for excursions.

For photographers, what kind of gloves did you have?  I have seen fingerless ones, but most winter gloves are so bulky which makes taking photos difficult.

  2. Thanks.  I live in New England and have gone in the ocean (you don't acclimate, you go numb) and this summer dunked myself in a cold plunge at a thermal spa in Iceland as well as dipped my toes in the arctic ocean.  I suspect my health condition would not preclude me from doing the plunge, but was wondering if there were specific issues that would.

  3. This is a special trip for your anniversary.  I am assuming you can afford it since you are considering it, so go for it!  You won't regret it.   Go back to an inside (if you can 🙂 ) for other non celebration cruises.  We booked a balcony and were upgraded to an aft mini suite when we did our Baltic cruise, and it was wonderful.  Especially sailing into and out of each port and through the archipelago in Sweden in the early morning.

  4. Thanks for all the input.  We kept the cabin with the tub, we will see if I use it.  I do love a bath.  One of my favorite memories from the safari I took was coming back to the room and having a hot bath with rose petals floating in it after a full day in Ngorongoro Crater (along with a fire in the fireplace and a hot water bottle for my feet in my bed. 🥰)

  5. Hi,

Due to the Wind being cancelled for this years Antarctica cruises, I am re-booking and trying again next year, on the Cloud.  It has some verada cabins labeled tub/shower combination.  I assume the others are shower only?  Is there a benefit to the tub?  Does it make the shower area larger?  I have never sailed SilverSea, so I can't compare to other cruises I have sailed.

    thanks.

More power to you, but this would drive me crazy.

A few years ago, we were flying to FLL to stay overnight before flying to San Juan for a cruise (it was the year Hurricane Maria hit and there were no hotels to speak of available in San Juan). While on the plane, my husband looked at me and said, "I forgot your Glucagon."

I'm a type 1 diabetic and this is what is needed to quickly bring up my blood sugar if things get bad. He was in charge of bringing it because he is in charge of giving it to me. So once we got to our hotel, time was spent calling CVS and getting the prescription filled. And that was the last trip he was in charge of packing the Glucagon.

With all the food on board, one of the first things I do is go to the buffet and grab some bananas and cookies to keep in the room in case I go low at night.  I have never used/needed glucagon, thank goodness.  My worst was on a 3 week trip to Hawaii, I forgot to pack my pump syringes.  Called the mfg and the local rep sent them overnight to the place I was staying.  Good thing I was in the US.

It's strange that NCL online web site insisted on credit card for my new deposit, while earlier a PCC was able to apply my FCC for that. I hate repeatedly throwing in new money to replaced cancelled cruises when I have multiple FCCs expiring. It should be in NCLs interest to not make us tie up their employees but rather allow straightforward transactions online under equally favorable terms.

I had to call NCL to apply the FCCs because I didn't want to put my CC in to have to pay for anything when booking.  I agree, the website didn't allow it.  Not sure why, they used to.

  8. I am 62 (with underlying conditions) and will receive my second dose of Pfizer vaccine on Wednesday.  My husband is 61 and has to wait a bit to get his.  NH has picked up the pace somewhat so hopefully that will be somewhere around March/April.  I am happy to see US numbers going down, but the variants and worldwide vaccination program still has be concerned.

  9. So.... I did book the 12:55pm return flight to Miami from Seattle, only to find an email this morning in my inbox from American Airlines saying that flight has been cancelled and the only non-stop is now at 10:20pm, red-eye! YIKES.

I suppose I can change to a connecting flight that leaves at 1:35pm and arrives Miami at 12:49am, through Dallas.

Or check in my bags at airport and go back into town?

    Suggestions welcomed.

I noticed NCL does not have any post-cruise Seattle tours available. Was hoping they would and perhaps burn some of those hours away. Still going to be a long a$$ day.

Our Sept 1 cruise has a Seattle city tour through the ship. However, if you have never been, stay another day and walk around. It is a very walkable downtown area. The space needle area has a lot to see (don't miss the Chihuly garden) or walk along the water front to Pikes Place, the aquarium down at that end of the city is nice too. Lots of places to eat. The Seattle Citipass is very worth it if you are there both before and after the cruise and have time to sight see, it is good for 9 consecutive days!
