  1. We are leaving for Dubai in a couple of weeks and i have been doing some research on being a tourist there in general. Just google some of the articles about people that have gotten in trouble over their medications and how minor their infractions will seem to some of the people posting on this Thread. Most tourists will have no problems but you just might be the person randomly checked -- not even a few accidental poppy seeds from the bagel you ate at the airport are technically permitted!

  2. I have gone though Narita many times. When we had a tight connection because our connecting flight was late, they actually had customer service representatives waiting to escort us through the lines (moving us up to the front) and then on to our gate.

  3. My luggage was lost for the entire 7 day cruise. My Husband's bag arrived at the ship just fine. I did have insurance and was able to buy a few things to wear. It wasn't that I didn't have money to buy things but there was nothing decent to buy! My carry on bag had some extra shoes and most of my accessories and my jewelry. Some of the shops and crew members lent me things.

We were on a direct flight and supposed to fly in two days in advance. Because of weather the flight was cancelled and we arrived at the port the day of the cruise. All during the cruise we couldn't get any info about the location of my bags. The night before we disembarked I was told that my bags would be at the port when we got there. As I was walking down down gangway there were my 2 bags actually leaning up against the gangway! They still had the correct tags for the ship and voyage number and date etc. on them but someone had put a handwritten tag on each of them redirecting them to a port that I wasn't even visiting.

  4. I am so glad to see this change. After I saw this article a few weeks ago (http://www.cnn.com/2015/03/19/politics/report-tsa-let-convicted-felon-through-pre-check/index.html) I wrote to my Congressmen and Senators about the security issues with people being moved into the Pre check lane from the regular lane. I had to go through all the paperwork, interviews, fingerprints, etc. for Global Entry to prove that I am not a security risk and all these others are being selected at random for Pre-check. Why have this program at all? Why I am paying for this supposedly expedited Pre check when others are getting it for free, including people that could be considered security risks?

  5. We had Lufthansa flights from Philadelphia connecting in Frankfurt to Rome in September. Going we had two hours in Frankfurt and we arrived on time, giving us plenty of time to spend in the Lounge before our flight to Rome. Coming back our flight from Rome to Frankfurt was late and we had only 45 minutes to make our connection but we made it! We had to take a bus to the terminal from the tarmac in Frankfurt. We walked fast -- didn't run. (Our bags were checked through to Philadelphia so we didn't have to collect them and recheck them. )

  6. Doncarlos - I agree with you completely. After 70 cruises on various lines beginning in 1980 we decided not to cruise any more at all because if exactly things things you point out. I have been following the various postings on the Holland America Forum because our resolve had "weakened" and we booked another Alaska cruise for this summer. However, after reading recent postings I can see that, if anything, the situation is getting worse. We are probably just going to cancel and stick with our original plan of no more cruises.

  7. Regarding Future Mileage Runs (as many miles as you can get for the lowest ticket prices) -- You won't even get many award miles. In March 2015 (at least for Delta and United) the amount of $ you spend for a trip combined with your status level will give you the amount of award miles you will accrue. Now you get award miles at least equaling the actual number of miles you flew, that will NOT be the case in the future.

For Example: If I spend $700 for a trip to Hawaii now I accrue 12,404 award miles for a round trip (basic seat-in-seat miles + Silver bonus). Miles that I can use for travel and other awards. However, beginning March, that same $700 will be multiplied by 7 for Silver Status which gives me a total of 4900 award miles ---less than half the number of award miles I get now for that same trip. My Husband is Gold so his multiplier will be 9 giving him a total of 6300 points in comparison to the 14,886 (basic miles + gold bonus) points he now gets for a round trip to Hawaii. What at change! It is going to take a LOT longer to get enough points to use for travel awards just by flying.

(However to maintain Silver Status I still have to have at least 25,000 seat-in-the-seat miles, as well as meet the minimum spend of $2,500 this year and $3,000 next year.)
