  1. We  have cruised with Princes a fair amount of time and are now elite.  We have always bought their trip insurance.  We buy the standard insurance but are now bumped up to platinum.
Unfortunately, because of illness, we had to cancel our cruise this January.  The ease of filling a claim was amazing; doctor's statement, itinerary and booking confirmation was all that was needed to file the claim.  It was a week when we followed up and the insurance company had already approved the claim in full and said that a check was being mailed.
This was a last minute health issue, we were due to sail on January 12th, I saw my doctor on January 7th and she recommended not to travel.  I am impressed by the quick service and again, the ease of filing.  There are differences in the standard vs platinum and of course the platinum does cost more.
    Buy insurance!

  2. Luck has nothing to do with it. I'm thinking that no one on this thread won their cruise. I work my butt off and then I get out my credit card to pay for it. Zero luck involved. You may not get many emails but I get about 50 a day.

Looking at the number of posts you have seems you do use the computer often each day....50 emails a day for a working person is not that many in the electronic world.

  3. It appears there is a stairwell next to our aft cabin, C753. Terrace pool is 2 decks up. Will I get yelled at if I use them?

Depends. If you trip and fall on that metal staircase and no one finds you for a while are you going to sue?

We too had that cabin and was told it should be okay to use by our steward - my wife of course said no, but, well you can guess, I did and tripped. Those stairs are not the comfy ones you find elsewhere, they are steel. Sprained my ankle and went to the infirmary for help. Then got a visit from security and a big "I told you so" from my wife.

  4. I read a post somewhere here on CC where someone said they had done a one-way Vancouver to Hawaii cruise and then spent time in Hawaii before flying home.

My wife tried looking for something of this sort and didn't find any info. Is this a cruise that is offered every once in a while or was the person just lucky to have gotten a deal of this sort once upon a time?

    It sounded really interesting...

We did the opposite route, Hawaii to Vancouver, 10 Days, Dawn Princess, May 8 - May 17, 2003. Spent several days in Hawaii before boarding. Arrived to snow flurries in Vancouver! Seems I saw a similar cruise offered on Princess recently...just don't remember the details.

  5. Has anyone heard from Kim Stonepost lately? She must still be sailing on the Ruby.

When I saw your posts title, I thought you were from Colorado or Washington (State) and had taken advantage of their new laws :D. I don't know Kim Stonepost either. Welcome to Cruise Critic!

    See you on the water,

    Rex

  6. ok, looking at the printed out luggage tags, it tells me, that you can bring on ONE bottle of wine or champagne per adult per voyage, which will not be subject to a corkage fee if consumed in the stateroom.

    :confused::mad:

    what?

we have always taken that *free* bottle with us to the dining room. so are they going to stop us at the door & check our account & then charge us a $15 fee? even if we bring it in opened? (I don't like the way most waiters open the bottles anyway.)

You answered your own question in your question..."which will not be subject to a corkage fee if consumed in the stateroom." Thus stated, if you consume the bottle in a public area, be ready to have a corkage charge added to your on-board account....even if you take it opened. If you take additional bottles of wine on-board, there will be a small label or a stamp placed on each bottle indicating that bottle has been charged to your account, the 'free' one is not stamped, so can be charged.

Am a bit curious about your comment that you don't like the way most waiters open the bottle...is it the type of corkscrew or what?

  7. When we go on a B2B cruise, can my husband & I bring all 4 bottles (1per person per cruise) of wine on board when we go on the first cruise?

Yes, we did a B2B on the Coral in July and just got back from a B2B on the Crown. No problem on either voyage with the 4 'free'. We did take on additional bottles and paid the $15.00 fee on those.

    Enjoy your cruise.

  8. We paid for an Alaska cruise last week and were shocked to see that Princess billed us twice on our credit card, consuming most of the available credit. My in-laws were billed three times for the same cruise.

Sorry to hear about your problem. Was wondering, did you pay in full for a cruise 7 months out, or are you speaking of the booking fees? Another reason the FCC's are so advantageous.

  9. Hey Cup, one of the best, if not the best reviews I've seen. We have friends that embark on the Ruby this Sunday on their first cruise - the same itinerary. When I sent them the link to this tread they were even more excited, although I'm not sure if they were as excited as I have been. You brought back so many great cruising memories, all I can say is thank you.

Hope to see you on the water,

    Rex

  10. Hi Ibrasu :) I can't imagine the stuff at the 'waterfall' would be very nice after sitting around in pre-poured glasses for a while.

Princess does not serve the 'champagne' that is used in creating the waterfall to their passengers - you'll also notice that it has food coloring added. Maybe the same kind, but not that has been used.

  11. I agree, water shoes and a guide. I would also advise to get as close to the guide as possible, you can hear what he is saying and see where he is stepping. The guides do carry your camera(s) and of course, there is a photo stop. Well worth the effort so you can brag to your friends that you did it!
