  1. I had a non-refundable room booked for the May 3, 2021 sailing on Allure with a unique itinerary (Labadee, CoCo, Falmouth). It was a 6 night, and there are not many of those to choose from for L&S.

I called RCCL today and they originally told me that they are only allowing L&S for sailings through the end of April this year, but when I asked if they could doublecheck because the website gave me options for L&S, they allowed me to L&S to Odyssey 6 night sailing on April 3, 2022. It has a different itinerary (Falmouth, CoCo, Grand Cayman).

    You have to call.

I've called them in the past (pre-COVID) about seeing a cheaper price on their website, but when I called, their customer service person wasn't able to find the same level of room available so therefore wouldn't honor what I was seeing on their website. I haven't ever tried again since then. I wasn't sure if they would honor a discount if all of the rooms of that same type were gone.

  3. I just got the dreaded Odyssey cancellation email for all cruises through April 17, 2021.

    ABOUT YOUR UPCOMING TRAVELS

    Dear Guest,

We hope that this email finds you healthy and safe and that with each passing day, we are closer to getting back to a more regular day-to-day. While this is like nothing any of us have ever experienced, we continue to evaluate how it impacts our upcoming sailings and our return to service, as well as upcoming ship projects like the debut of Odyssey of the Seas

Given the closure of shipyards along with the disruption to the supply chain caused by this pandemic, we’ll need additional time to complete the ship’s scheduled construction. So, we'll need to cancel our November 5th, 2020 – April 17th, 2021 Odyssey of the Seas sailings which unfortunately includes your sailing.

We’re terribly sorry that our newest ship’s delivery is postponed. To help make up for this change, we have some options for you, including an option that has been very well received by our guests, as it provides a little something extra! Here are your options:

    1) Move your Odyssey of the Seas reservation to another 7-night Caribbean sailing that departs within 1 week before or after your original sail date and you’ll receive the following:

    • Your original Odyssey cruise fare paid will be price protected at the original cruise fare rate or reduced to the current cruise fare rate (whichever is lower) of your new reservation. This excludes taxes, fees, gratuities, and other non-cruise fare items.
      • If you had already paid in full and your cruise fare rate decreases, we’ll provide you with a refund if there is any difference in pricing. You can expect to receive your refund to your original form of payment within 45 days of the price change. Kindly note, refund times may vary depending on your financial institution.
      • We’ll also waive any non-refundable deposit change fees associated with the move.
    • Please know, if you weren’t previously booked on a holiday sailing (Christmas, New Year’s, and Easter), sailings during that timeframe are excluded from your options.
    • Lastly, if you opted into the Cruise with Confidence 100% Future Cruise Credit prior to this email, you will be able to take advantage of this new offer.
    • Please reach out to your Travel Advisor or to us at (888) 281-9344 by July 17th, 2020. If we don’t hear from you by then we will automatically issue you the below 125% Future Cruise Credit offer.

    2) 125% Future Cruise Credit: We’re providing you with a 125% Future Cruise Credit to book a new cruise by December 31, 2021 for sailings on or before April 30th, 2022.

    • This amount is based on your total cruise fare paid. And, we’re giving you a little extra, knowing that this is such a unique circumstance.
    • We will automatically send your Future Cruise Credit via email by August 7th, 2020. So, there’s nothing for you to do!
    • Taxes & fees and any RoyalUp upgrades will be automatically refunded. Current refund processing is around 45 days. We are working as quickly as possible, and we appreciate your patience.

    • Please note:
      • If you opted into the Cruise with Confidence 100% Future Cruise Credit, this offer does not apply.
      • And, if you previously used a Future Cruise Credit (including previous Global Suspension FCCs), you’ll receive a new Future Cruise Credit. This will be for 125% of any new monies paid on this sailing, plus the value of your original credit at 100% of its value, with an expiration date of December 31, 2021 and a sail by date of April 30, 2022.
      • If you were already impacted by our global suspension (sailings March 13 – September 15, 2020) and paid additional monies on a new booking onboard Odyssey of the Seas, you are able to opt in to refund one or both cancelled bookings via the process below.

    3) Lift and Shift: If you prefer to move your existing booking to a sailing next year – we’re happy to move you! We will price protect the original pricing and/or promotion on the same itinerary, length, product, and stateroom category as your original sailing within 4 weeks (before or after) of the original sail date the following year. For example, if you are moving from a November 30 , 2020 sailing, you can move to a sailing that is the same itinerary, length, product, and stateroom category, and the sail date between October 30, 2021 – December 30, 2021.

    • Please contact your Travel Advisor or call us by July 17th, 2020 to move to a new sailing. If we don’t hear from you, we will automatically issue your Future Cruise Credit.

    4) 100% Refund: Or, if you prefer a full refund, which is a lower value than the Future Cruise Credit offer above, we’re happy to process this for you. Given how fluid this situation is, and the opportunity to use the extra credit being offered, you have until December 31, 2020 to request a refund and deactivate your certificate.

    • Please contact us to start the refund process, forfeiting the higher value of your 125% Future Cruise Credit.
      • To avoid waiting on the phone to cancel and start the refund process, please click here and we will get it started for you. Note: Please know, once we receive your refund request, we unfortunately won’t be able to accept an FCC request if you change your mind.
    • We’ll then deactivate your Future Cruise Credit and process your refund to your original form(s) of payment, which will include any non-refundable deposits.
    • You can expect to receive your refund 45 days after you submit your refund request.
    • Please note: If you used a Cruise with Confidence certificate on this sailing, and you request a refund instead, we’ll refund any NEW funds paid above the certificate amount, and we’ll reinstate your original Cruise with Confidence certificate.

And, a special option for those that also purchased Cruise Planner Items:

    • You can opt-in to receive an Onboard Credit in the value of 125% of the total Cruise Planner purchases on your reservation.
      • Click here by July 17th, 2020 to request your higher value credit and we’ll email you your credit by August 7th, 2020.
    • If we don’t hear from you on or before July 17th, 2020, your Cruise Planner purchases will be automatically refunded. You’ll receive your refund within 45 days of your booking’s cancellation. We are working as quickly as possible, and we appreciate your patience during these unprecedented times.
    • Also, if you opt for a cruise fare refund or for Lift and Shift, you are not eligible for this Cruise Planner Onboard Credit offer.
    • Questions about the Cruise Planner credit? Click here for more details.

Guests with air or hotel booked:

    • Refundable air or hotel accommodations purchased through Royal Caribbean will be automatically refunded to you within 45 days after we process the cancellation.
    • If you booked non-refundable air through Royal Caribbean or booked on your own, please contact the service provider directly for your options with them.

  4. I had a cruise booked for October 2018, and was able to call Royal and save almost $700 using the kids sail free promotion. Since you booked with a travel agent, you'll have to call them. I had booked my original reservation before the non-refundable policy was in place though, but I think they will adjust as long as the final payment window hasn't passed.

  5. I'm booked on Brilliance of the Seas for Oct. 2018 in a Grand Suite. I booked before the "non-refundable" was mandatory for GS. I noticed today that the trip is coming up to about $450 less than when I booked it earlier this year.

I'm weighing the option of saving the $450 on my booking by telling RCL to rebook my room for the cheaper rate, but then I'd be subject to the non-refundable rules if I change or cancel my booking...which is a year away.

    What would you do? :(

  6. You get as much notice as they can give. They normally give OBC and price protection. The price protection allows you to book the same category stateroom on selected similar cruises. However, you may not have a lot of choice on the alternate cruises.

I believe Brilliance is chartered because it does 4 and 5 day cruises and these shorter cruises on a smaller ship are less expensive than longer cruises on larger ships.

Thanks for the information. I guess I'll sit back and hope that no one charters my sailing because of the increased prices and the non-refundable deposits. ;);p

  7. While researching my cruise on Brilliance of the Seas next year, I came across some threads about ships being chartered for private events and such. One thread said that RCL ended up canceling their cruise because someone had chartered the ship.

Can anyone tell me what the deal is with Charters? It seems like this happens more frequently on the Radiance class ships, and it has me wondering how much notice they give to people that they are canceling a sailing. I booked when the dates were released, so I got a good price on a GS, and don't want to have to rebook a cruise for the same time period and pay more.

  8. Thanks, Bob! I am becoming a little disenchanted with DCL and want to seriously consider returning to RCCL this fall... but the splash pad is my hang-up. The photos of the Splashaway Bay kid splash area on HOTS look awesome.... but they look like the H2O zones on other ships that kids in swim diapers are NOT allowed in. I can't find a single photo of any actual swim-diaper-approved area on HOTS (l;ke the one that someone was able to post from Majesty). This is a sticking point on booking for us, so I just want to be sure there is some area for my 2 y.o. before booking.

I was just on the Disney Dream, and their swim diaper approved area is really large in comparison to RCL. The baby pool on RCL was located right next to the H2O splash zone, so my swim-diaper-wearing toddler kept throwing a fit because he wanted to play in the big area with all the kids running around. I like everything on RCL for the adults, but DCL does know how to do things right for kids - including the layout of their splash zone area.

  9. How was your internet service on the Indy last summer with VOOM? I'm trying to decide whether to pre-purchase the package.....

When we were on Indy last April, they didn't have it yet, but we did have VOOM on oasis in November and it was good. My son's watch YouTube videos a lot, and they were able to watch them with no issues.

  10. There are packets of peanut butter and jelly in windjammer, as well as assorted breads. bring your own zip locs and you can have the sandwiches. The bigger issue for you is your ports. there are many ports where you cannot bring food items off the ship - they are the rules of the countries you are visiting - not a rule of Royal. What ports are you going to be in?

Sent from my iPad using Forums mobile app

We are doing the Western Itinerary - Bahamas, Costa Maya and Cozumel

  11. I would call them for definite answers but normally any food brought onboard must be factory sealed packages only.

Also in ports.....you are not supposed to bring any kind of food off the ship that is not prepackaged. Some ports actually have dogs sniffing for fruits, etc as you go through security.

I would contact Special Needs for specific information.

Thank you. I wonder if those sealed uncrustable sandwiches would be okay then....

  12. My son is Autistic, and is very picky due to sensory issues. I contacted the special needs department for RCCL regarding his food allergies, and pickiness, and they sent me an email that stated:

"Guests are allowed to bring on their own supply of dry, nonperishable food items such as cookies, crackers, chips, energy bars, etc. They may also bring on their own individual packets of salad dressings. Guests may not bring on board any potentially hazardous food items. (Items that require refrigeration, freezing, reheating, or storage by the galley). We recommend bringing your child's favorite food onboard, but please note perishable food items are not permitted to be brought onboard due to U.S. Public Health Guidelines."

On port days when we have excursions, I would like to just bring him a peanut butter and jelly sandwich that I can make him in our room. Do you think a loaf of bread, a jar of peanut butter and a jar of jelly would be considered "perishable?"
