  1. I’ve heard they dumped the White and Gold night. There is no longer any mention on their web site. It’s now a “I love this party” night. Possibly 80’s themed??? (Or I might be smashing two stupid theme nights together - not that white and gold was any better, but I’m not happy I spent money on a white dress, removed the tags and washed it, and now have no use for it. Who the heck wears white and gold?)

I am interested as it will help me understand how busy the casual dining venues will be and if the reserved seating in the theater is likely to fill up.

Plus how busy will it be for OceanNow Delivery for drinks and Food.  I have a friend who sailed in July and he said it was useless.  Either it took over an hour, or your food or drink never showed up.  I'm hoping the recent changes will mean less people taking advantage of ordering thru the app.  Of course, even without the package they could still pay the $14.95 to activate it.

Wild, very wild guesses. Cruisers that take one week cruises, a high percentage. Experienced cruisers that know how they tend to spend their funds, probably a lower number, but still fairly high.

Only Princess knows and I don't believe they will publish that information anytime soon if ever. Princess does not have an annual report. This information may or may not be included in the Carnival Corp stockholder's report.

Yeppers, I don't think I could manage to sustain the level of drinking required by the packages for longer than a week 😄

  4. We are sailing late Nov.  I had received an email from Princess that the second formal night would be white and gold, but it looks like its been cancelled for the "I love this Party" night - which is apparently 80's themed?  Anyone know what they are doing now?  Theme night are kind of fun if you want to do them, but this is ridiculous.  My sailing is 37 days out and nothing shows up in my JourneyView.

I did the same thing today.  I have the military OBC for our December 2024 cruise and I sent the info for my husband's shareholder OBC.

Originally, I tried to do it with my stock but I got an email telling me it isn't combinable.  They said if the other passenger has stock, they can add it for them.  That's when I sent the information for him and it was done immediately.

So, they did it 16 months out.

After all the help and answers here, I went ahead and submitted my form. They applied it to my Nov 2023 cruise. It looks like you still have to submit a separate form for every cruise though, because they didn’t credit my Oct 2024 cruise.

Since Princess began requiring advance payment several years ago they have waived the 90 day limit. I have received the SOBC as soon as booking a cruise over 2 years in advance.

I have received MOBC and my wife SOBC.

Well dang. I may have shorted myself. My husband has the MOBC and we got that right away, but I have the SOBC. I held off submitting it when we booked earlier this year because I believed we had to wait until 90 days for SOBC. I’ll have to request it to see if we qualify for anything. Our sailing is Nov this year and another in Oct next year. I’ve been crossing my fingers since we are two individuals we would each qualify for the two different things.

We just tested the waters and refared our July 2024 M1 booking on the Sky when it dropped in price today by about $1600 pp! We lost both the SOBC, as we both get the MOBC, as well as the OBC perk that came with the original booking.

BTW I almost fell off my chair when I saw the huge price drop on our 14-day cruise! 😂

How did you manage to get your SOBC on a cruise 1 year out?  I was told I can’t provide my SH info until 90 before sailing?

That has substantially reduced the advantage that Princess has over other lines as far as I am concerned.

I wonder if I can claim veterans and my wife the shareholders? Will have to see?

I wonder what happens when you have already spent both on excursions.

I am wondering the same thing. My husband has the military OBC and I have the Shareholders.  Since we are two different people, are we combining?  Or are they just looking at per cabin?

  9. Princess is being sneaky with this lately.  We have 4 cabins booked on a sailing in Nov.  due to the problems with long hold times we decided to switch to a TA.  Ours and my parents we sent right away.  I had to mail the form to my brother and SILs.  By the time they got the form and mailed it, a week had passed by.  We waited about a month, the TA said she could see ours and my parents.  I had my brother and SILs fill their out again and resend by email.  This time a week goes by, still no transfer.  We had them resend their emails.  Princess came back and said they won’t accept transfers after 45 days of booking.  If they would have processed it the first time it was sent in, it would have been within 45 days.  Now we have a split booking. 2 rooms are with the TA and 2 rooms direct with Princess.

The Emerald is an old ship. Compare Celebrity to the Enchanted or Discovery Princess. They have the most beautiful and lively Piazzas at sea. Rock Opera is one of the best production shows I’ve seen in over 50 cruises.  I’ve sailed many times on 6 different cruise lines. They all have something good to offer. At present I cruise mainly on Celebrity and Princess. It’s good to have varied experiences and choices to make based on itinerary and cost.

We are so fortunate to be able to cruise.
    Happy sailing!

I agree, I thought trying to compare the Emerald to the new Edge class ships was not a fair comparison. Solstice versus Grand and Royal versus Edge would be a more fair comparison. But saying that I did appreciate the rest of the review regarding service and food.

I do like that 16-17 day round trip to Hawaii from California. Went on that a few years ago on Celebrity Eclipse and had a great time. Celebrity no longer offers roundtrip to Hawaii. I was looking into lines that do and am currently considering Viking, Holland America, and Princess. Pros and cons to each.

I’ve sailed Princess to Hawaii and it was probably my favorite cruise of all time. We were on the Ruby Princess which is an older Grand Class ship, but I believe the new Discovery does it as well.

  12. The OP was also asking about dinner. I do not know how old the OP is.

The OP specifically asked about lunch. For every 10 times I’ve seen someone where something not allowed on the dress list, jeans at dinner, etc. I’ve seen 1 in 10 where they have turned someone away at the door for improper dress code.

If you can’t find something in your wardrobe that is appropriate for lunch, give it a try. If you are turned away, go up to the buffet.

You weren’t asking about dinner, but I do think they tend to be stricter at dinner versus lunch. I wouldn’t try it at dinner.

  13. Princess has a nice desk I turn into my makeup / hairdressing station. I bring my own lighted magnifying mirror. (I’m over 50, I don’t go anywhere without it!). But it works out nice. I shower first and then move to the desk while the hubster does his shower.

  15. Just a quick question are you referring to a FOV (family ocean view) as your post stated or a large ocean view category...a big difference

    May not matter any longer.

I don't know about Royal, but on Princess the Family suites require full passenger payment for all 4 passengers, even if you only have 3, you have to pay full boat on 4 people. (Just the clarify, the 3rd and 4th passenger are not at a reduced rate).

  16. If you'd like.

You can safely assume I wouldn't eat out of it.

I once dropped a perscription tablet in a princess cabin

bathroom. It rolled far under the useless shelf.

As far as I know, it's still there, as I took a new one.

Note to add to packing list - vacuum with full attachments to pick up all gifts left by previous passengers for my grandchildren.

There is a way to "upload" with no virus risk - it's a fax (although some will claim that even a fax could involve risk if the incoming fax is converted to a computer file)

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

It is a fax server, and according to Princess that's the reason why so many problems with the incoming faxes, the server is down quite a bit.

  18. They will let you take water (and soda) but we haven't in years because we've been doing the ultimate drink package. We get large bottles for our table (they treat it like wine and brink it back to your table every evening) and for our room. But the also supply the smaller 1/2 liter when you leave at the various ports.

The fact that I owned CCL shares in 2012, does not mean I own it today.

    .

I know the reason they don't just automatically give it is because you can sell the stock.

But at the same time, once I've registered as a stock holder, they've got my captains circle number. They should be able to easily turn on a flag that the next time that Captains Circle number books, check their own stockholder records in their own database. After all they know I'm a stock holder to send me my annual stockholder notices, they must have a record of me owning the stock somewhere. [emoji848]

  20. We faxed the form and copy of latest statement at around 9:00 am on Monday of this week and the credit appeared in our cruise personalizer by 6:00 pm the same day.

Recommend reading the specifics on the form carefully and make sure you provide the required info (with account blacked out) and do so after full payment is made.

    Chris

I do this 2 to 3 times a year, so I'm very familiar with the requirements. I've called into Princess and they've admitted its a problem with the fax server on their side.

I checked yesterday morning and it was finally there, so it took them five days after receiving it certified mail to apply it.

I understand why they can't, but I sure wish it was as easy as the military. We did that once for my dad and once for my husband and it just automatically shows up on every cruise.

  21. 20 or so past cruises, and I didn't actually know this! Thanks. I just talked to a friend last week about cruising, as she's going to be booking one for the summer, so I just texted her the info, in case she decides to go with Princess...

You need to go online and put her info in. You get credit and she does too. Once she talks to Princess, too late.

  22. I did ours last week. It took about 48 hours by fax.

It's been a month since my original fax. I got the confirmation they received the registered mailed version Monday. Now just need to wait for them to apply it. Apparently they are behind and it can take 7-10 days.
