Apple Peach cobbler - The funny thing with lunch is they ask you what you want for dessert when they take your order.  Not like dinner when they bring you a new menu.  I ordered but forgot I did because I sure didn’t need it.   I ate it anyway.

picture of the butter too.   I’m sitting by myself thus the small portion

yay for butter!   it was like a bad joke how there wasnt any last April when we sailed. LOL.   There was a rumor that the butter was in storage along with the barrel chairs that used to be in the balcony cabins. 😉

Apple Peach Cobbler....that sounds divine!  a portion or two of that and some hot coffee, my day would be complete.

Rolls are offered at every meal and Princess makes a good dinner roll.   Be careful, they are really addictive.

So glad I am not the only one who loves the dinner rolls. Are the butter pats back on the table? Last year we had to ask for the butter and then they doled it out in 1/2 the normal size pats. LOL.

Thanks for the pics of the Elite & Platinum lounge snacks. Also not a big meat eater, so I will probably fill up on fruit and cheese at the lounge then stuff myself with rolls and the French Onion Soup.  I never seem to have room for it all.

When we cruised in April 2022 out of San Francisco to San Diego and Ensenada we found the food to be just "ok". Everything was lukewarm and nothing that we would write home about. Now that you pointed out the "complainers" I do remember the LONG long lines that were constantly in front of guest services.  (The only time I went was to get some larger bills broken into small bills for tips and the casino was closed).  Even then the staff didnt seem happy or smiling like we normally see.

Thank you again for your frank and entertaining updates!  I am looking forward to the adventure of a mini-suite and navigating the bidet. Also I wont be "jumping" into the bath, since I am only 5' 1". 😂 (while I read some historical smut).

Puerto Vallarta, we did the exclusive Majahuitas beach cove excursion. It was great! Don’t sleep on this one. It really is exclusive and has many benefits over the other excursions that include it as a small stop over. First, you will get to stay there the entire time, not just look at it or spend an hour there. Second, no jumping into the water from the boat to get to the shoreline, they have a custom built gangway that they made that will allow you to walk off the boat. The whole setup is awesome and a VIP like club experience. The crew on boat #3 were great, readily passed out drinks (both non-alcoholic and alcoholic optional) without even having to ask, had an open bar also, and kept it entertaining. The easily offended may find it too entertaining on the way back when they really put on a show lol. I won’t ruin it for you though.

Once at the cove, they assign everyone a table for their party and will seat you in a roped off area with tables, chairs, lounge beds etc. Each table is pre-assigned for your party number and has a tag on the table with your party name and count. The drink service is outstanding, you won’t be standing around waiting or standing in lines, just kicking back and relaxing. You can enjoy the beach or simply lounge about and enjoy the atmosphere of the place, heck you can even take a nap if you want under the palm trees. The beach is comprised of small rounded stones. rather than sand, so you’ll want to bring water socks or water shoes. They serve an authentic lunch family style: shrimp, chicken, pork, rice, pasta, salad, tortillas and accouterments: limes, guacamole, a delicious ground chili and pico, followed by dessert. The food was very good but if I were to offer any critique it would be to cut/dice the meat up to better facilitate serving/consumption. It’s tough to cut on a small plate with a butter knife and a lot of folks will want to make tacos. They also didn’t have tortilla chips and that would have been a nice touch or even tostadas or crispy tortillas of some sort. Minor gripes on what was an excellent excursion that we will do again for sure. It’s a slice of paradise and set up very classy

we have been on the fence on the Majahuitas beach excursion or something else. I just want beach time and not have to go back/forth between multiple beaches (Nor do I want to swim to shore).

    thank you for your review!!

I have not been on a Carnival trip in 12 years (everything else bring Princess between).  So looking forward!

  4. my hubby is wondering the same thing for sports. We will be on the Grand Princess from Oct-5-15 to the Mexican Riviera. He is hoping the SF Giants make it and wants to see the games.

I think they have some games at Snookers?

We were on Star last year for CA coastal - I remember love boat reruns and the bridge cam - but do we get any other major network (news) in our rooms?

  5. Seems that most "surge" protected items ultimately plug into the main source with a three-prong plug.

Basically...should I look for something with 2 prongs?

Could I use a device like this - plug it into the ship's outlet with my two-prong original Apple brick? That way no surge protection..but can power up three USB cell phones?

I am not looking to run a hair dryer or large item...just charge a couple cell phones and maybe a tablet.

    Thank you very much.

  6. In Santa Barbara, the mission is beautiful but a short visit. I enjoyed just walking around the wharf area, and catching up on emails at Starbucks. Was not impressed by the old fig tree- seemed to be a homeless camp around it.

Long Beach aka San Pedro: The Queen Mary is amazing and there is the Aquarium of the Pacific just across the bay. The day we were in Long Beach there was a free trolley that took you from the cruise ship to the Aquarium and Shoreline Village (full of little shops). There is a great little Irish Pub at the village. If you haven't had your fill of food on the ship, there is Bubba Gump's, PF Chang's or Dave's Famous BBQ.

We did get a little worried when we got on the trolley and it started heading into the downtown district, but the driver assured us that we would get back to the cruise ship and we did. :)

Ensenada: signed up for the La Bufadora Excursion (the blow hole). Our tour guide was Belen, a very knowledgable and sweet gal. Beautiful ride through the countryside (and the urban areas with Walmart, and Kelly Moore paints). The vendors at La Bufadora are the most aggressive I have seen, but just said no thank you and keep walking. Had time for a quick snack of fish tacos and one margarita before heading back to the bus. The tour of the "casino" in Ensenada was interesting and also included some shopping with polite, non aggressive vendors. Got a free margarita included on that tour. Ensenada port has a little shopping center right next to the ship with "certified" vendors. Less haggling, decent prices, and right next to the ship.

    Enjoy!!

  7. When I was on the Star Princess for CA Coastal last year, both Pellegrino and Perrier were available.

Like you, I prefer mineral water over plain bottled spring water types. Having the All Inclusive Beverage Package (called AIBP on here) was a bonus since I could buy a couple bottles throughout the day and stockpile them in the fridge in my cabin.

Having a cool, refreshing Perrier while lounging by the pool always makes the vacation feel luxurious even on my bottom-dollar, interior cabin. LOL

  8. Cruise ships are REQUIRED by law to report illnesses and get the diagnosis confirmed through the Public Health department or the CDC. In all actuality, NoroVirus does not occur any more frequently on cruise ships as it does on land...just the cruise ships report it and announce it. When on dry land many people dismiss the symptoms as a "stomach bug" or food poisoning.

Read what the CDC says about Norovirus on cruise ships:

    http://www.cdc.gov/nceh/vsp/pub/norovirus/Norovirus.htm

    What about alcohol-based hand sanitizers?

CDC recommends that cruise ship passengers use warm water and soap to wash their hands. Washing is always best.

If water and soap are NOT available (perhaps on excursions), use an ethanol alcohol-based hand sanitizer, preferably in a gel form. The sanitizer should be at least 60% ethanol.

    http://www.cdc.gov/nceh/vsp/pub/handwashing/handwashingtips.htm

I work for a public health department and last year at a conference there was a very interesting session on cruise ship health and sanitation. Cruise ships are WAY cleaner than any restaurant you will probably go to on land.

  9. Yes. You have to then take the bus tour into the mountains from there. Princess usually does a tour. Colima.

Thank you. It is called "Colonial Colima with Lunch" for this voyage. I am very interested in seeing a volcano, even it it is at a distance. The pyramid ruins sound wonderful too.

Unfortunately it seems that the Las Caletas Private Beach Getaway is already sold out! and the cruise is still 6 months away. I was looking forward to monkeys and margaritas. LOL

  10. I have to laugh about the description of a kayak/snorkel excursion. I think this was reviewed in 6th grade science class.

"Other sea mammals you're likely to see include giant manta rays, sea turtles, dolphins, and humpback whales.."

Manta rays and sea turtles are NOT mammals. Hahaha. Princess: want to hire me to be your biology expert? lol

  11. Taking the Grand Princess on a 10 day in October out of San Francisco.

Mazatlan, Manzanilo, Puerta Vallerta and Cabo are the stops.

What are some of the "must do" excursions you have done in the past? Has anyone gone to the turtle sanctuary in Manzanillo?

what are your thoughts on the "Resort Beach" excursions?

it will be me, DH, and 16 yr old son. No horseback riding and no ATVs for us. I am open to kayak and snorkeling but not the DH and son. How accommodating are the excursions for solo people?

    thank you!

  12. you use obc's for whatever you want with few restrictions. enjoy that aidp ;)

    Heck yeah I will!

fancy coffee in the morning, couple bottles of water (Perrier or Pelegrino) my favorite triple citrus margaritas, glass of wine with dinner....and maybe a soda or two. Probably will save $100 a day at least. LOL.

My 15 yr old son LOVED his Soda & More...his fave Caribbean Cooler and Strawberry smoothies (aka Virgin strawberry daiquiri)

  13. Hi

I have On Board Credit already for my cruise in October. I also have points available from the Princess Credit Card Rewards.

Can either of these be redeemed for the Unlimited Bar package? Or can I use them for the gratuities for the cabin?

Also- I cannot remember if the $56.30 per day on the bar package takes care of the tax/tip on the drink.

    Thank you and Bon Voyage!
