  1. Well I’m certainly sorry I ever started this thread and asked a very “simple” question.  The petty meanness from some and the bizarre twists and turns is really making me question joining CC in the first place.  Please end this thread.  The OP has the answer they were looking for.... please just stop and try and be positive happy people that love cruising and support their fellow cruisers with friendly advice.  Especially in the first time cruiser board!!!  Thanks for all that gave actual helpful friendly advice. (That Amish twist was truly bizarre - feel like I need to publish this as a book!?). Please don’t respond any more.  And yes, I know I can turn off the reply notification.

  2. Thank you all for you candid responses!  I have already told DH about the hat stuff and he is reconciled - I just wanted to hear some thoughts and I heard them loud and clear lol!

As for the shorts - he’ll pant-up if he needs.  I just want everyone to be as comfortable as possible.... including the other passengers.

I absolutely agree that this will be an amazing experience for my boys to see how things are done in a “proper” setting.  Growing up I was lucky to have fancy restaurants and theatre and cruises on occasion and it was invaluable and created special memories - which is what cruising is all about!  We’ll all have a wonderful time - and dress the part!

    Thanks again for your input.

  3. I tried to search this topic as I am sure it has been beaten to death but couldn’t find specific answers.  Hoping some veteran cruisers can help...

Sailing on Princess .... my husband and kids have never cruised....

Two teen boys - do they have to have a jacket for formal nights?  I am hoping for just dress pants and shirt and tie?

Also - my husband does not wear pants from May 2-4 to December so getting him out of shorts for the formal nights will be difficult - can he wear dress shorts and button up, collared shirt in the MDR or specialty restaurants on non-formal nights?

And last - but most important - my husband never goes anywhere without a hat on his head.  He has high anxiety about it.  I know most formal places don’t want hats but if he wears a nice fedora or a Panama hat (on our Panama Cruise!) Would that be offensive or allowed?  I fear that I will not be eating anywhere but the buffet if the answer is no..... lol!

thanks for your help ... and please don’t argue 😊

  4. Wow!  You guys are awesome!  Thanks so much..... I am definitely feeling better about all of it and a) will not tell Princess my flight plan and b) do a “walk off” and grab a cab and c) hope there are no bizarre medical issues or, indeed, Godzilla, that hinder the Ship from arriving on time.

You’ve all saved me hundreds in flight change fees which will go toward shipping the hockey bag with change to spare!

Look out.... more questions coming soon!  Lol!

    Thanks again!

  5. Thanks for all the replies!  Yes - replacing would indeed be very expensive!  I am going to try and get a team mate to take home with them and pay the baggage fee and a bit more as a thanks... but we don’t know anyone yet (new team starting in Sept) so will need a back up plan!  As an FYI Air Canada Cargo ships lots of stuff and it looks like it will run about $50 if the website is right!  Totally doable and way less than I thought.  And another option is UPS and that looks like about $100 if it takes the “slow boat” which is fine because it will have more than 10 days to get there while we are on the Ship.... so I think all will be well!

now for more reassurances that we will make our 11am flight to Canada?  Does anyone know the earliest debarkation without causing a stink?  And what do I put in the Cruise Personalizer?  It won’t accept my flight time.  Can I leave it blank or should I call and give them the info in advance?  Thanks seasoned cruisers!  Appreciated it!!

  6. Right... forgot about the hockey sticks!  Grrr.... is there a place to store at Port Everglades?  We are staying close by the night before but as you said, I don’t want to push my timing luck having to go back to the hotel and get it and then to the airport....

for a 7am arrival, what is the earliest time of disembarkation we can get?

  7. Hoping some seasoned folks can help me!

Panama Cruise booked from FLL in October and my return flight to Canada is at 11am - ship gets in at 7am.  They recommend 5 hours but this only gives us 4 hours.... I know airport is very close.  Will this be enough time to grab a cab from the ship following disembarkation?

Also... my son has a hockey tournament ahead of the cruise and I don’t want to bring his stinky cumbersome equipment with us.  Is there a place to store his bag for the 10 day cruise right at the Princess terminal?  Or is there a place on the ship so it doesn’t take up space in our room?

    Thanks for the help!!!

  8. I am bringing the Purex sheets that have detergent and fabric softener in one sheet! Just pop sheet in washer and then transfer to dryer. Have only seen these in US not Canada. Very convenient for travel. Weighs nothing and easily slides into suitcase pocket as a just in case... I just keep a couple in my suitcase always now. Though I hope not to touch a machine on my cruise, helpful if I need to...
