  1. Kfamilycruise - I already posted the inquiry on the belize forum and have gotten a few suggestions there as well.

ESelby - RE: tendering. I wasn't familiar with the process as I haven't actually cruised before. Just Googled the term now given that it involves climbing aboard small boats and having to manually scale the Pier, I agree that this will be uncomfortable for my mom to say the least! Not the kind of activity level that's suitable for a 70 yr old woman with osteo-arthritis.

Costa Maya / Blue Kay it is then.

Thanks again for your suggestions everyone.

  2. If you want a relaxing day I recommend going to blue key in Costa Maya. Short cheap ride there. Cheap place right on the beach. Short cheap ride back to the ship. In Belize I would go to Lamanai. If you don't want to do that I would stay on the ship there but they are both excellent ports depending on what you like to do and see and your budget. There are so many factors that you didn't mention like your likes and dislikes, budget and mobility.

Mobility is a huge consideration as I'm travelling with an older parent who has arthritis. This pretty much removes the more active excursions like the tubing and ziplining.

If I was to book a quick tour of a city (such as the trolley tour of Belize), can we then return to the ship at our own leisure, or does the tendering happen for all shore excursions together (closer to the departure time)?

  3. For those who've done a western caribbean cruise before:

We have a cruise booked for mid-May on the NCL Getaway. this will be my first cruise, period. Two of the ports on the Itinerary are Costa Maya and Belize. The others which I'll definitely be booking excursions for are roatan and cozumel. If I want to sit one of these ports out and just lounge on the ship that day, which port would you suggest skipping out on and why?

    Thanks for the tips.

  4. Greetings,

First time poster here. My relative and I will be going on the NCL Getaway in mid May. The Itinerary is to western caribbean and central american porsts (roatan, belize, costa maya and cozumel). For this cruise, I have already pre-booked a few excursions in roatan and cozumel which I consider "must-see's", namely the dolphin swim and the glass boat tour of the coral reef.

I have a few questions for those who've sailed to these ports:

    1. If you'd like to stay on the ship for an extra day ( and some $$), which port between costa maya or belize city do you recommend sitting out? Which port is less appealing?

    2. My relative is a senior with mobility issues. Can you recommend a nice excursion in either Belize or Costa Maya which is fun, yet not physically demanding? It would be also helpful if it was a less expensive excursion.

    3. For Question 2 above, did you book a local excursion for a discount price. IF so, which tour operator would you recommend.

Thanks in advance for all of your feedback :)
