  1. My friend and are looking at Viking Ocean (Greek Odyssey (Fall 2022) and Azamara Journey (Greece Intensive Voyage - May 2022).  I like the Azamara itinerary better, but I like that 8 excursions are included in the price for Viking.  For those of you who have cruised Azamara, did you book private tours, or just spend the day looking around.  TIA.

  2. At first, I booked Carnival Vista for June 20-27, 2020, but then Royal Carribean had a special, so I cancelled Carnival and booked the cruise for 8 on RC.  Once the world shut down, I knew we weren't cruising in 2020.  We got 100% of the money back from RC, which was amazing.  I expected we would lose a percentage or something, but nope!  I checked Dad's credit card statement and he got every penny back from RC.  Now, Carnival is another story.  Since I cancelled it, I expected to pay a penality but to get something back.  I've called and written several times but nothing's happened yet.  Is Dad just out the $2,000?  TIA.

I've only been on 2 cruises.  Both on RCL (Liberty and Vision).  I'm going on my 1st Carnival cruise in April.  I really like RCL but I wanted to give Carnival a try.  So far the biggest disadvantage about going on Carnival is that I don't get double loyalty points like I do on RCL because i'm a solo cruiser.

As a solo traveler, do you  have to pay double?  There are some cruises I'd like to take, but friends and family can't get away.  Going by myself wouldn't be bad.

Agreed, but that's on indictment on the Port of Galveston.  It was the same on Carnival Liberty.  Even getting in to the port parking lot, getting parked, and riding the shuttle to the terminal took almost an hour.  It was one of the worst embarkations I've ever had.

My Dad complained about disembarking on Carnival, but I told him it was probably the ports' fault, so RC probably wouldn't be any faster.

  5. Hi everyone.  Mom and Dad are taking 6 grown kids (all 50+) on a cruise in June out of Galveston (we're in Texas).  Dad's put me in charge of picking the destination and ship.  I've been researching the differences in Carnival and RC ships and the ports, but I'm almost as confused as I was when I started researching!  First, the ports: I want to see the Mayan ruins and Grand Cayman so I need to pick one.  Any opinions on great ports?  Secondly, which ship?  We were supposed to go on Carnival Vista last summer but they had the propulsion situation, so we cancelled that trip when the dates were changed.  I've read the negative reviews of the entertainment area on the Vista (too small and bad layout for # of guests).  Enchantment of the Seas and Liberty of the Seas both have an average 4 rating on cruisecritic, but Carnival Freedom and Vista have average 4.5 rating.  I know I won't be able to please everyone in the family, but any input, comments, suggestions would be appreciated!  TIA!

    • Apparently this cruise is now an 8 day, with stops in Costa Maya and Cozumel, returning Sunday the 23rd. $200 pp OBC, 50% future cruise credit and up to $200 for air changes for those sailing, or full refund for those choosing not to go. No word yet on the changes obviously coming for the June 22nd sailing

We're on the 6/22 sailing (now 6/23 sailing).  I wouldn't mind the $200 pp OBC at all.  Someone else said this week's cruisers got $500 OBC. That really isn't a lot so maybe they were misinformed.  Waiting for 11A CT tomorrow's Carnival update.

  7.  received this email from Carnival regarding our 6/22 8 days cruise:

    "Dear Carnival Vista Guest,

Carnival Vista is experiencing an issue affecting its maximum cruising speed. Our technical team completed their full assessment of the necessary work once the ship arrived in Galveston today. Unfortunately, due to the reduced cruising speed, it was necessary to extend the cruise departing on June 15 to an 8 day sailing, returning June 23.   We apologize for the impact this will have on your vacation plans. Our team is in the process of assessing the status of your cruise and we will get back to you with an update no later than 6:00 PM (EST) Tuesday, June 18, 2019.  If you have air travel plans, please do not reschedule your flights until you receive our update. In the event you have any air related change fees, Carnival will provide reimbursement.   We appreciate your patience and understanding."

So, I assume our 6/22 cruise would now depart on 6/23, but still waiting to hear back from Carnival.  They'll have to get back to Saturday-Saturday schedules soon, so I think they will shorten our 8 day cruise.  I hope they don't remove Belize from the itinerary.

    TIA,

    Vickie

  8. My first Viking cruise I was in 3010 on the Star and never heard a thing. I did do the destinations and attended most but not all shows. So I'm trying to be clear that most of the time I wasn't in the room when they were happening but if I was, there was no noise.

    Dauntless, thanks.

  9. In the year and half that I have been following this forum, there has been maybe one complaint about noise from a public venue disturbing the piece and quiet of a cabin--and I'm not sure that one was even a legitimate complaint. For the most part, whenever this topic comes up, people actually comment on how quiet things are in cabins that are above or below public spaces.

    Thanks Peregrina651!

  10. First time cruiser! Will be on the Viking Sky for the Iconic Western Mediterranean cruise in December 2018. We're currently in Room 3010 (a V1). Looking at the ship diagram, it appears we'll be over the cinema 1. Does anyone know if it will be loud over the cinema (I'm thinking it might). any comments would be appreciated!!!

  11. Anyone know what the obstruction is ? Also, much noise being above the theater? Please and thank you!

FunintheSun, did you find out what the obstruction is on the Coral Princess, in E208, and if the theatre noise can be heard? We're taking our first cruise December through the Panama Canal and have been assigned E208. I've searched through the threads but haven't found a lot of info.

    Any help would be appreciated!

    thanks,
