  1. We are from RI and have cruise out of Bayonne several times. We always drive and pay to park however. It seems to us that it's always less hassle to drive than any other method. But that's just us. I always bid on a hotel through Priceline the night before, and drive the 10-20 minutes to the port in the morning. Many of the local hotels have port shuttles. But we prefer to get off the ship and be on our way, rather than having to wait for the shuttle.

A cheaper option than Amtrak may be to drive to New Haven and take the Metro North trains in. Or perhaps a bus service like Megabus to NYC and then cab/car from there.

  2. We will be in Canaveral as a port of call on the Adventure of the Seas in May. We are Disney annual passholders so thinking of a day at Epcot to take in some of the Flower and Garden Festival. Ship is in port from 12 - 9. Was thinking of a rental car initially. But worried about the late return time with the rental companies being closed. However, we were able to get a deal on the Royal Caribbean Disney Transfer shore excursion. < $30pp. My question is, how long before the ship departs do the return shuttles leave Disney? Knowing that we have to travel from the TTC to Epcot and then back, I'm trying to gauge how long we'll have at the park, etc.

    Thanks!

  3. Will be on the Anthem when it docks in Port Canaveral April 23rd. Taking my Mom and sisters, and they want to do Epcot (against my wishes).

Originally thought it wouldn't be too bad since it will be late April (so spring break & Easter long gone), but just found out there will be 5 cruise ships in port (15+-K passengers). Wondering how you seasoned Port Canaveral / Epcot folks feel it will be for:

    • Epcot crowds. Those sites that guesstimate how busy the parks will be say a pretty mild day at Epcot, but you never really know... right? Plus with 5 ships in port?
    • Traffic coming back to the ship. Was planning on leaving Epcot around 6pm (Anthem leaves around 9:30pm), so would have traffic to deal with I would imagine?
    • We will not really be trying to hit many rides (I see that people say the wait times are crazy)... mostly the food pavilions. Maybe a couple of the more mild rides, but not too much. Are we crazy???

Hi, did this plan work out? Were you able to do Epcot? How did you get to/from? We are thinking of doing that on our stop in May on Adventure.

  4. On Marriott.com right now for May 24 I'm seeing a 2 queen and sofabed at the Elizabeth Courtyard for $215 plus tax. That would put you at one of the closest hotels to the port that is booked by cruisers all the time.

If that doesn't work, let me know the bed configuration you need and your price range.

Unfortunately, would need 2 rooms. Travelling with adult children and one significant other. I just found Courtyard by Marriott Edison Woodbridge for $129 + tax a night. A bit further from the port, but get's me out of the 95 traffic through CT and NYC?

  5. Looking for feedback. We are travelling on Adventure out of Cape Liberty on Friday May 25th. We're a party of 5 and driving down from RI. As suggested on this thread, it's difficult to get rooms for more than 4 people without having to get more than one room. Which becomes expensive. It's about a 3 to 3.5 hour drive to the port with no traffic. So, was considering biting the bullet and get up early on the 25th to start the drive down around 3AM. Hoping get over to the Jersey side before rush hour starts. Find somewhere to have breakfast and hang for a bit before going to the port. Reasonable? I know CT and NY rush hour traffic is brutal. So hoping those more experienced can tell me if I'm crazy or not! I'd love to do a hotel the night before. But two rooms are going to run us 400-600.

  6. Hi All,

Planning a cruise for 4 us. Myself and DW along with our 2 adult children (son and daughter). I'm leaning towards getting 2 balcony cabins. But thought I'd ask if there were any cabins that had pull down bunks. I don't know that cruise lines do that anymore. But it's a fairly considerable savings having 4 in a room, compared to 2 separate rooms. And considering the fact that we are really never in the room, we're trying to decide if it's worth paying for the extra room. Anyone with similar experience? tips?

  7. I guess it depends on what type of deal you're getting, and what your past experience is and what your expectations of cruising are in general. We just cruised Anthem on April 30 to Bermuda. The ship itself is beautiful. Very large, but doesn't feel large inside. Many of the common areas don't seem huge once inside. Yet, the ship itself didn't really feel crowded. (with the exception of the buffet on some days)

As far as food goes, I'd say, overall, average. We had some good meals, and we had some not so good. I've had better food on other cruises. Dynamic dining is a bit quirky, but I really enjoyed being able to change my restaurant / dining time on the fly. For instance, we really liked Silk, and Chic, not so much. So we canceled our second reservation for Chic and booked Silk.

    Entertainment = Standard cruise fare.

Activities - depends on what you like. Kids/teens/young at heart would love it. Seaplex with bumper cars, basketball, soccer, Xbox room, pingpong etc. FloRider, iFly and Northstar are all cool as well.

We liked the ship and have booked a 9-day next year on Anthem. Overall, the biggest disappointment was the food. But there are some very good restaurants and menu items. Now that we know what is good where, we'll just be more selective.
