  1. Hi everyone. I have an upcoming cruise on Borealis. My question is how do people dress for dinner on Fred Olsen ships? I heard they were quite dressy. I have sailed on MSC, P&O and Royal Caribbean before and I would normally wear a polo shirt and smart jeans or chinos ..... is this ok? Yes I do have  suit for formal night 🙂

    1) Don't expect a tea kettle in your cabin. Tea choices are very poor on Carnival, Lipton and Green tea, that is it.  2) Some of the food choices will be to American tastes, not British tastes. From past experiences many of the sweets and desserts on Carnival ships don't seem to appeal to Brits. Mornings bacon isn't the same, nor is the porridge/oatmeal.  3) Comedy shows won't have any British references. 4) I find that drinking habits slightly different for Americans vs Brits.

Thanks Kwokpot and I was joking, I knew what you meant  🙂. Coffee and tea making facilities in the room are nice, but not essential. As long as we can get coffee somewhere on board it's ok. We have stayed in the US before so I know what the bacon is like, we've had some great breakfasts and meals out in the US. And I'm sure we could cope with the entertainment and the drinks on offer 🙂

Are you trying to put us off Kwokpot? lol

  4. So I found a really good deal on the Carnival Celebration a Western Carribean cruise from Miami. I know Carnival is aimed at the American market. Would my partner and I fit in as British people? We're in our 50s but young at heart (even if our joints aren't what they used to be in our 20s and 30s lol).

Would my partner and me be out of place on a Carnival cruise as British people and a gay couple? We are in our 50s but young at heart (although our joints aren't what they used to be lol)

  6. There are several YouTube channels out there by LGBTQ youtubers. TravelBlogJaime, Tips for Travellers, Cruise With Ben and David, Cruise Monkeys, Cruise Buoys, Chad Cruisers, High Seas Escapades, George and Dan, Tom and Dom Travel, JJ Cruise.

Wow seems like all I do us watch LGBTQ youtubers. How do I find the time to go to work?

  7. My partner and I travel solo for 2 reasons. We each have elderly widowed parents with health issues we don't want to leave with no one to call on for help, plus we have a rescue dog with issues that we can't expect a kennel or dog sitter to deal with. So if we didn't travel solo we'd never go anywhere.

  8. Since you live in England, why would you take a cruise that gives you 1 day in Amsterdam and 1 day in Brugge.  Just get on Ryan Air or some other low cost airline, fly over and stay in a hotel for a few days.  Taking any of the cruises that you are thinking about makes no sense.

For the experience of a cruise donald combined with sightseeing - makes perfect sense to me!

and we're actually booked on the QM2 cruise now at what i consider a very reasonable price. It will probably cost no more than flights or hotels

  9. I booked my first ever cruise a couple of weeks ago. Now i'm going mad and looking at a second cruise lol! A short cruise this time to Amsterdam and Brugge. P&O have a cruise in October 2022 on Britannia which overnights in Amsterdam and Cunard have a cruise on QM2  in December 2022, only one day in Amsterdam on that one but it also calls at Le Havre (thought it might be possible to visit Rouen Christmas market from there). Anyone got any opinions or suggestions that can help me make up my mind? (probably not but people can have fun discussing it lol).

  10. Well after booking first cruises twice before and having plans cancelled (first for personal reasons and second due to coronavirus) we have put a deposit on another cruise. Third time lucky maybe? Anthem of the Seas France and Spain cruise in May 2022 from Southampton. Although after seeing the state of the country in the last 2 weeks I am starting to wonder if we will even be out of this mess by then lol (speaking as a registered nurse of 30 years). We followed the advice of cruise experts on YouTube to cruise from our home country and pick a route close to home. Also I chose this route because it visits Le Havre and I know my partner wants to visit the D-Day beaches. We will keep our eyes on the situation and if we feel it's not safe then obviously we will stay home but fingers crossed for May 2022!

  11. Thank you Sauer-Kraut:-)

I knew about Cunard's dress code, friends of mine regularly cruise with them. No hardship for me to wear a suit either every night either :-)

All the ports interest me. Maybe getting of the ship in the fjords is easier for a first time cruiser, and a solo one at that

  12. Hi everyone. Would be first time cruiser here, also a solo cruiser. There are 2 cruises that interest me, both with single cabins available. One is on the Azura to the Fjords and the other on Queen Elizabeth to Spain and Portugal. Anyone got any thoughts on either line? Azura is slightly cheaper and i would really like to see the fjords but from online research Cunard seems more solo friendly

    Comments appreciated

Will also post this in the first time cruisers forum
