Despite the name "Spa Pool" and the appearance on the deckplans that it is within the confines of the Lotus Spa, it is not part of the Spa or Sanctuary (nor is it covered) and is open to all, though nominally adults only.

Those pools on the original Grand-class ships used to be named "Lap Pool" but Princess long long ago stopped maintaining their swim-against-the-current machines. Consider it a huge fluke if it is working on your cruise.

That's what I was thinking but didn't want to assume. Thanks for the reply, fishywood!

    I’ll take that!!

    Great!!

Hoping the Grand has those two. Find out Sunday!

    Thanks for sharing

jennybenny, would you mind sharing the current beer selection on the Grand when you get back? We’ll be on her next month and are curious as to what our choices will be. Thanks!

Eventually you will near the Rio Cujale where there is a pedestrian bridge which takes you to the Romantic Zone (also called Old Town or the Southside). At this point you might want to explore the island that is in the river or just cross the bridge to the Romantic Zone (our home) where there are plenty of shops and decent eating venues.

Hank, appreciate your thorough replies as always...I have been to PV before but am trying to recall where I asked the cab driver to drop us so we would start at the southern end of the malecon and work our way north...we want to start in the Romantic Zone as there are some breweries we want to visit again (Los Muertos) and try for the first time (Monzon)...if I ask the cabbie to "take us to the Romantic Zone", will that get us in the general area (half mile or so) of those locations, or should I be more specific (like ask him/her to drop us at Our Lady of Guadalupe church and just cross over the river on foot)?

  4. Was on Ruby last week (7-day Mexican Riviera) and can confirm that Salty Dog was in fact $12/pp for dinner only (there was never a Salty Dog lunch option on our cruise) and included two choices only plus dessert. I did not partake, but my husband and my mom dined one night; had the Ernesto burger, crab cake, lobster mac, and poutine (between the two of them) and neither were blown away (they said it was tasty but not earth-shattering). My mom was also a little irritated that she could not take her dessert to go as she was too full from her entrees to finish; seems like something you're paying a premium for should make some allowances, but I digress.

Free pub lunch (not Salty Dog) was offered on one of the first sea days and included choice of fish and chips, bangers and mash, ploughman's lunch, and I'm pretty sure there was a fourth option of some sort of pie (can't remember if it was shepherd's or steak and kidney).

It sounds like YMMV, but this is what took place on the Ruby just last week (1/21-1/28) on a North American itinerary.

  5. Hi all! Will be in PV week after next via Ruby and my husband and I would like to explore on our own. I'd like to start at a southern point and work our way north as the day progresses, so am I correct in planning on asking the cab driver to drop us at the "new pier"? Based on my reading here and review of various maps online, it looks like there's a pedestrian path that we can take that will also cross over the Rio Cuale onto the Malecon from Old Town, is that correct?

  6. I've searched the forum but couldn't seem to find an answer to my particular question...

We are booked for late seating traditional dining on our upcoming Mexican Riviera cruise on Ruby; do I need to let the maître d' know when we will be missing dinner in the MDR (to attend a show or have dinner in a specialty restaurant instead, for example)? There are 3 of us (tentatively) reserved for a table of 8 and I don't want to inconvenience our tablemates if the protocol is to wait for everyone to arrive...thanks!

  7. Thank you, GweninTX.

I'm usually against buffet sushi when on land so it's definitely not on my "try" list while at sea, prefer it to be made fresh upon order, but thanks for the tip, Waltd!

  8. Sailing on Ruby in a month (first cruise for hubs and I); is Vines the only place on ship to get sushi? I know some Princess ships have dedicated sushi /Japanese restaurants, but I don't think that's the case with Ruby...thanks!

Thank you for this! This is right up our alley for our first cruise in Jan. 2017...none of the PV excursions offered through Princess interest me (not to mention they're all a little pricey IMO) and I prefer to explore on my own; these are great waypoints.

  10. I've read through this entire thread and as such have no questions whatsoever about the AIBP but just want to say thank you to the OP and everyone else who has provided valuable information...very much looking forward to my very first cruise with my husband and mother in January 2017...and looking forward to utilizing the AIBP!
