The cruise line shuttles will wait around, fill to capacity, and then head to port. You could be waiting for a while inside the bus, or standing around outside, or be herded from one area to another. I can't imagine it would be a pleasant experience for someone with mobility challenges. This would be a good question to pose on the Disabled Cruise Travel forum here: https://boards.cruisecritic.com/forum/114-disabled-cruise-travel/

Unless you're on a strict budget, booking a Lyft/Uber from your hotel would be much more comfortable and allows you to set your own schedule.

Thank you - I appreciate your feedback!

Wow, thanks for the news about the Best Western!

Back in October, I experimented with staying at an airport hotel (Hyatt Regency LAX) and then doubling back to the airport to use the cruise line shuttle. While I wouldn't do the second bit again, I'd definitely consider staying by the airport again and then taking Uber/Lyft/taxi to port in the morning.

The disadvantage is the lack of dining options, although DoorDash/UberEats would solve that issue.

This is the plan for my cruise in October - staying near LAX and then doubling back to take the Cruise excursion transportation to the ship.  What didn't you like about using the cruise line transportation?  I'm signed up for 1200.  My Mom has mobility challenges and I thought the lift on the shuttle / bus would be easier for her?

  3. "Our team is ready to discuss options and rebook you on another Carnival cruise right away."

Contrary to what the letter says about Carnival be ready right now to rebook, Guest Services didn't know what I was talking about when I called them after I received the letter on Tuesday - I had to sit on hold while they figured it out. When the woman got back on the line she started talking to me about cancelling and I told her I wanted to rebook.  I was put on hold again and finally had to hang up (I was at the 40 minute mark) because I had an appt.  I  called back the next day (yesterday) and  Guest Services mentioned cancelling and once again I said I wanted to rebook.  He told me they won't rebook until 3 Jun so they can do all the cancellations.  Uggh!  So I booked myself 2 weeks earlier in the same cabin and will just take a refund now for the cancelled cruise.  The $50 OBC wasn't enough to persuade me to wait.  The really sucky part was the plane tickets being double the cost when I changed to the new date (I had refundable tickets)!

  4. I've gotten a lot of good information from this forum so I'm hoping y'all can help me with a question.  $500 Cruise Cash is the max per stateroom but what if you are travelling with a friend and that person has their own expense account?  Since I can't set up my expense account info until Check In, but I've purchased the  Cruise Cash, would the $500 be evenly split between our Sign n Sail accounts after we set up our own accounts?  Or would the whole $500 go on my account and my friend still has the option to purchase his own? Or doesn't have the option because I took it all?  Not interested in the Cruise Bar or Cruise Photo and I take Carnival gift cards to cover if I've overspent.  I've purchased Cruise Cash before but just added my kids to my account so it's not been an issue.  I couldn't find anything that specifically addressed this situation so would appreciate your thoughts - thank you!

  5. Willdra - your review could not have happened at a better time for me!  I was all set to do my first solo, my first B2B, and my first Havana cabin on the Horizon for 5 & 11 Dec when I found out it was cancelled two days before I was flying out.  The shock of my trip being cancelled was a little overwhelming since I had planned this trip since Summer 2020. After being denied a cruise, it was a breath of fresh air and truly a blessing to find your review.  Thank you for sharing yours and W's adventure with me and lifting my spirits 😊

According to how it is written at Carnival's site, it is "only in guests' carry-on luggage."

Whether or not that is enforced, I do not know.

They enforce it.  I forgot about that rule and turned my carry on into the porters because I didn't want to carry the 4 12-packs of soda (for me and my son).  When my carry on arrived at my room, it was considerable lighter.  Came with a note about the soda being confiscated because I didn't follow the rules and carry it on myself.  I was supposed to pick it up at the end of the cruise.  However, I talked to my steward and he was able to get my soda back for me to enjoy during the cruise.  Learned my lesson.

  7. I booked a B2B cruise (Spa Suite) for Dec 2022.  I wanted to go to Disneyworld for a week prior to the cruise so I landed on the Mardi Gras.  I also looked at the Havana area and was disappointed with the layout which is why I decided to book a suite (bucket list).  I'm not super excited with the itineraries but am really looking forwards to Disney and seeing the ship.

  8. I may be wrong, but I believe it's an elevator where you enter the floor you want to go and then you are assigned an elevator in that area so it will take you directly to that floor (or with few stops, depending on the floors the other people select).  You can't do this from inside the elevator so if you inadvertently get into one, you are riding it to the destination before you can get off.  Prevents having to stop at every floor and from what I've seen, keeps the elevators from being crowded.  I've used this type of elevator in a hospital and at the Marriott Hotel in New Orleans.  Takes a little getting used to.

  9. Hi, I'll be travelling with a friend who is gay on a Carnival Cruise in Dec 2022.  I typically travel with friends or my kids, but this is his first cruise I want to ensure he has a good time and has the opportunity to meet members of his community.  Are there daily LGBTQ meetings on Carnival?  Any advice would be appreciated 🙂

  10. Hi, could use some advice from my fellow CC peeps. I have a reservation for Mr. Sancho's for my son and I, but we will be one of 6 cruise ships that day (in December) and we are in the last batch arriving at 1000. I also reserved a massage. Since we are one of the last cruise ships to arrive, is Mr. Sancho's still a good idea? I don't want to worry about finding a place to sit out of the sun - was wondering if I should consider another excursion for this cruise? Appreciate any advice :)

  11. Sometimes excursions under the "Explore" tab on the Carnival page are not available for a specific itinerary, however I would think the cabanas would always be available to each itinerary (but might sell out quick depending on high demand).

  12. This is my 1st time cruising and I am booked on the carnival glory sailing on December 9th 2017. The itinerary was recently changed due to the hurricanes Saint Thomas and Puerto Rico were replaced with Nassau and Amber cove. I have a question about the cabanas at Amber cove when I go to carnivals Web page and look up Amber cove I see the cabanas listed but when I go to my itinerary and try to book them they do not appear at all it does not say sold out they are just not there has anyone sailing on this ship had any luck booking in the cabanas or is there a number or any information that anybody may be able to help with carnival was no use at all

Hi, I'm sailing on the same date as you are. I can't answer the question about Amber Cove, but it appears the same thing has happened for Half Moon Cay - all the "cabana" excursions are now missing - not Sold Out, missing. This is weird. I have one booked for HMC and it still shows up in "My Activities" but nowhere on the Excursion page. The cabanas for Grand Turk are sold out but they still appear on the Excursion page. I'm not concerned...yet

  13. we've the same problem with an all day wait. We've decided to self disembark and Uber to the luggage lounge at South beach. Leave our bags there $10 each then wander south beach, lunch etc. bus to airport ready to fly at 5pm. Bag storage at the airport is the same price but its a 10 mile walk across the airport to drop them then pick them up! so luggage lounge is best for us.

That sounds like a great idea! Something to think about

  14. My friend and I visited those islands last December - we went to Mountain Top and Coki Beach via taxi on St Thomas (don't be fooled into thinking you will get a tour from the taxi driver waiting to pounce on you once you leave the port - unless it's a private tour you won't get much). The taxi drivers were in the shopping area when we were walking towards the Paradise Skyride (and I never made it to that).

We did a speedboat tour (Robinson's Tours) in St Maarten and it was fabulous! The weather made the water a little choppy but we were still able to get into the water at different spots. Bring lots of sunscreen, sunburn spray and something I wished I had brought, some vinegar in case someone brushes up against fire coral when they are snorkeling (I didn't need it but someone else on the boat did and had to deal with it until we reached the location for lunch where the restaurant fortunately had some).
