  1. I'm traveling SOLO on MSC for a 7 night cruise. Thinking of buying the 3-Pass Specialty Dining which includes the Steak House, Seafood Restaurant and Taco Joint. Not sure if I will be allowed to go into these SOLO and how awkward it will be.....has anyone done this and can share your experience. Or of not, if you've eaten in these restaurants have you seen anyone in there eating solo? Also, I see the menu is "limited" to certain choices if you buy the dining package. Anyone have insight on that?. Thanks for any input you can provide before I purchase this!

  2. I'm going SOLO on MSC in April. If I buy a Drink Pkg. it says "Per Adult" for the price. Same for internet access and spa services. Does anyone know if it would just charge me for *1* or would it automatically charge for 2 people (double the price) since prices quoted are typically based on double occupancy. I'll probably call MSC to ask but just wanted to see if anyone here knew or had this experience. Thanks!

  3. I went solo on Seaside (I think that was the name) last April at the end of the month. I enjoyed it. Out of Port Canaveral. There weren't too many children on board. They did have adult activities. Pools were crowded but I bought the Aurea experience and used the private solarium to sunbathe.I loved the Thermal Suite. I only ate in the buffet. Food was so/so but comparable to other cruises I've been on (Carnival, RC and Holland). Cabin was clean and quiet. Staff was all pleasant. Some nice musical shows in the evening but wish they had a comedy club. Overall, I was happy and actually just booked another cruise with them this April.

  4. On the MSC web site, it says you get a Massage when you book Aurea level. Today, I booked and on my confirmation paperwork of what Aurea includes it says the Thermal Suite is included (and no massage). I would rather have the Thermal Suite. Has anyone sailed so far this year 2024 and done Aurea and which was it? I sailed last April, did Aurea and got the Thermal Pass included. Guess I can take a copy of the paperwork with me when I go and show them that it says I get that and maybe they'll oblige?

  5. I am trying to book a solo cruise on MSC in April. It was fine last week but when I went to book today it is saying it is "Sold out". However, when I try to book for 2 passengers then it is fine. So it is ONLY SOLO bookings that are being blocked. This seems to happen with them. My questions are: Has anyone had this happen to them and then found that it "re-opened" for solo bookings again? (Like closer to the cruise date?). Has anyone called and spoken to an MSC rep on the phone and had them be able to over-ride this? I was planning to book an Balcony Aurea so one of the higher levels.  Any advice appreciated!

  6. I saw some beautiful Haute jewelry (Sterling silver with cubic zirconia stones) on my recent Holland America cruise (I believe it's sold on other cruise lines as well). I wanted a few pieces but waited to buy them and when I went back to the shop on board, the pieces were gone. Does anyone know of a web site for this company or if any of there jewelry is sold on-line? I found an outdated Facebook page for them but the web site it has attached to it no longer works...not seeing much of it for sale on Ebay either. :(

  7. I just returned from a Holland America cruise where they were selling a jewelry line called Haute (?) I believe. (It was high end, sterling silver jewelry with cubic zirconia stones that looked real) There was a bracelet I wanted to buy on board but when I returned to the shop it was gone. Does anybody know if there is any place on-line to purchase this jewelry?

  8. How much are the Thermal Passes on the Oosterdam? I read somewhere I think that it's $148 for the week...I'm going on a 7 day cruise. I'm going to try the spa facility for a massage, as well. Hope my experience is better than yours! (All of the prices seem very, very steep to me---I go to land spas regularly).

  9. I am booked on a Holland cruise and about 30 days from departure. I have a "guaranteed" balcony cabin with an obstructed view. Cabin has not been assigned yet. Thinking of trying to upgrade but not sure how the process works. Do I call the cruise line and just ask what upgrades cost? When is the best time to start calling them...now or closer to the sail date? Do I just keep checking back to see what they're offering? What kind of deal is reasonable to expect $$$-wise? Any advice appreciated?

  10. I'm about 30 days out from a cruise on Holland America. Have a "guaranteed" balcony with an obstructed view. Haven't been assigned a cabin yet. Thinking of upgrading but not sure how to go about it or how it works. Should I wait until it's closer to the Sail Date? Do I call the cruise line and just ask what the rates are to upgrade and what's available? How long should I wait to call...3 weeks out, 2 weeks out, a week out? Should I keep calling them and checking to see what's available? What kind of "deals" would be reasonable to expect or hope for? Any advice appreciated!

  11. I am going on a 7 night cruise to the Caribbean. Last time I cruised many of the merchants really wanted to deal in cash (which I didn't bring). I know everything on board the ship is put on my credit card except for tips so I'm trying to figure out how much cash to bring for the port stops. I do like to buy some souveniers and eat at the stops. I am signed up for excursions at each stop so not a lot of time for shopping but some. Suggestions?

  12. I'm going on a cruise to the Caribbean (Cozumel, Roatan, Guatamala, Costa Maya) in mid-March, leaving from Tampa, Florida. When I went to the Caribbean in June it was hot....hot....hot...both on the ship and in the ports BUT in March, I'm guessing it will be cooler than during the summer. For that trip, I packed shorts, blousy tops and thin dresses with cardigans to go over them. Wondering of anyone has suggestions for what to bring for the March cruise? Thanks!

  13. Considering booking the Tulim Ruins Tour which includes shopping through Holland America. Has anyone been on this? Experience? I did the 'Best of Cozumel" tour the last time I was there which included stops at a tequila store, chocolate shop, museum and settlement and shopping so I'm looking for something different. Suggestions?

  14. Considering booking the "Mayan Cultural Experience" on a Holland America Cruise in Costa Maya. Has anyone been on this? It doesn't give a lot of details...just says it takes you to Mayan ruins in the middle of town, I believe to a traditional "house" and shows you some of the culture. Looking for best options for this port/stop. Suggestions appreciated!
