  1. I was excited to read that the Sun was in Skagway today. BUT, if you look at the satellite image of Skagway it only shows 1 ship docked and it is the Carnival Legend. Both the Legend and Sun are supposed to be there today. The Sun webcam shows it is docked somewhere, but I can't tell where. And then a look at the cruisin me ship tracker site shows her underway using engine with legend right behind her using engine lol. I wonder how current/accurate these locators are. It's fun to watch though.

  2. I just want to know if Skagway is/had been dropped from this route? I have read posts saying it was switched to Sitka. Does anyone know if the Sun has stopped in Skagway at all this summer? It also seems to be skipping the second glacier as well. We sail southbound sept 12, but will be on a diy land tour for a week before in remote Alaska where there is no internet. I want to plan excursions before we leave but am at a loss right now.

  3. Just between last night and this morning our itinerary has changed from 7-1 in Juneau to 7-? In Juneau. I am now assuming our sept 12 sailing will skip Skagway as well. This makes me sad. Not to the point that I am mad or anything, just sad. Icy straight point doesn't have near the quality or number of excursions that Skagway has. Any suggestions for what to do there "on your own?"

  4. We are sailing southbound on the Sun Sept 12 and my documents show us stopping at both ports. It shows our only "at sea" day as Sunday Sept 18. I was going to book a dog sled tour in Skagway, should I wait? I really wanted to do something else in Juneau, and that is the only other stop with a dog sled tour. Ive heard if they change itineraries you get OBC?

  5. We are arriving by train as well. Having cruised a good many times, there is no exact time for embarkation boarding. When the ship is ready, they let you on. While it is usually around noonish, one time we were stuck waiting until 3 pm. 2000 passengers waiting to board all at once was no fun. I am going to go ahead and take the Kenai fjords tour from 1130-530. I can't imagine being on the ship for 9 hours in port with such beautiful country to explore on a once in a lifetime trip. We cannot come down the night before and take the longer fjords tour. We will be traveling from Wrangell St Elias/McCarthy the day before and will be lucky to make it to anchorage by 10 pm. 45 days till departure for us...getting really excited!!

  6. This is the greatest review ever. I feel like I am right there with you guys! My husband and I will be sailing on the Sun from Seward to Vancouver on September 12. It will be our first vacation in ten years. Our room is right above yours, on deck 6. At first I was a little worried about the jogging track, but from your review it seems like it could actually be a benefit. Our itinerary it a little different from yours, we are going to Skagway not Sitka. We are planning to do the dog sled excursion there, as many folks on here say that is a boring port. We have never sailed NCL before, so you have really eased my mind about the condition of the ship and food on board. We will be spending 5 days in the Anchorage/McCarthy/Kennecott area before the cruise. 53 days and counting..I hope to post a lengthy review as well! But my photography won't be near as good as yours! Thank you for sharing such a positive review! You guys look so happy!

  7. Can you call for an upsell if you did not directly book with NCL? We used Expedia. I had an issue come up already regarding the room choice, and when I called NCL they told me I would have to deal directly with Expedia. I did, and everything was resolved promptly. Was just wondering if I had to call Expedia for an upsell as well. We don't travel much, but this Alaska trip has taught me that it is better to book direct with EVERYTHING, than to use a TA or online travel company.

  8. Yes we will be embarking from Seward. The NCL website says arrive at the pier 2-4 hours before embarkation. 9 pm is a weird time to leave, as it interferes with both supper and lifeboat drills. We should be there checking in at 6 pm, but I was wondering if they actually "slam the door" at 7 pm. Haven't booked the Kenai Fjords tour yet. I am hoping someone on these forums has done this so I can feel a little better about risking it.

  9. We want to make the most of our visit to Alaska, and really do not want to board in Seward right away. We would like to go on a kenai fjords park excursion that leaves at 1130 and returns at 530. Since the ship doesn't leave port till 9 pm, is this ok? And has anyone ever gone on this boat tour? I called them, and they assured me they would be back at 530 and they would take us to the ship after dropping folks off at the train station. They said we would be at the port by 6.
