The brand of boots that I got were Bogs, but they had a few different ones they were using.  They weren’t uncomfortable, I just like to have more ankle support when I go over rocky terrain and they don’t have that at all.

We did go to Ketchikan.  On advice of the speaker onboard we headed to the Rainbird Trail, which I would highly recommend.  There are three points of access for the trailhead, but if you want to walk there from the port, look for Schoenbar Road.  You follow up an extremely steep hill and once at the top, follow the trail signs to the left that take you up to the trail.  You will see a set of stairs off of the road.  It took about 20-30 min to get there from the ship.

After we hiked the trail we took a different road to get to the Totem Museum and then looped back into town (Creek Street) on the way to the ship.  It was a long distance to walk, but very doable if you are active.

    Good to know, thank you!

Thank you for the suggestion! I have saved this post to my phone so I can reference it on our trip :)

I just took this tour. The group provided you with knee high rain boots with a slight grip on them.  You can wear hiking boots if you want, but several parts of the trek require walking through water.

I didn’t find the boots offered great support, but I appreciated the knee high waterproof to keep me dry.  I didn’t find that my feet were cold at all.

I don’t think I can give the tour company name out, but if you Google the name of the excursion, the company will come up and they outline all that they provide for your trip. They give you rain pants and jacket, rain boots, a dry pack, a filled water bottle to keep, a snack bag with lots of snacks, and a floatation vest.

For what it’s worth, the excursion was great, but they will not walk you directly onto the glacier because it is no longer safe.  You do get very close to the glacier though and it was quite a fun, but strenuous, trek.

I can answer any other questions if you have them!

Thank you for your quick reply, this was just the answer I was looking for! I did google it and saw a company pop up but because the List of what they included was slightly different than the description on Celebrity's site I wasn't sure if they were the same company or not.

I normally wear barefoot shoes so I'm not thrilled to wear uncomfortable rain boots but I'd rather not have wet feet. Was it very cold when you went?

Unrelated but did you also visit Ketchikan by chance? Nothing has jumped out at us as an excursion to do. Might just walk around the small town at this point.

  3. The celebrity tour mentions that hiking boots are not included and then goes on to say waterproof shoes are preferred. My husband and I canoe at home and often wear a water shoe...We head on our cruise in a couple weeks (July 3rd)- Are our feet going to be too cold? We have plans earlier in the week to do a whale watching tour (not through Celebrity) and our tour guide said just a plain walking shoe would be fine for that and to wear layers everywhere else so now I'm just worrying about what I should be packing.

Has anyone ever done the tour (or something similar) that can offer some insight?

Any help would be appreciated :).

Everyone has their own opinions on these cabins.  Here's mine - I would take one of these cabins (usually called hump cabins) in a heartbeat.  They are always, always our go-to cabins on Celebrity.  I have sailed them many times and have never even noticed the bathroom door "issue".  Not saying it is not true, but I put it in quotes because it has never been remotely an issue for us. I honestly never noticed it.   Love the location near the elevators and the fact that being basically mid-ship there is less motion (which is rarely an issue on Alaska cruises regardless).  We've never had an issue with noise from the elevators at all, and as has been said the connecting door thing is a non-issue on these cabins due to the design.  It is always better not to be directly over or under a smoking area, but on Alaska cruises there are usually  fewer people hanging outside smoking anyway due to the weather, unlike Caribbean cruises.

Thank you for this, it eases my mind as we have already confirmed our room. Hopefully the smoke won't be an issue.

  5. Hi!

Our cruise has been postponed for the second time now; the room we have booked the last two times is taken. Our travel agent offered us a room nearby or asked if we were interested in one of those bump out rooms. We are very new to cruising so I spent last night trying to find my answer but haven't found anything, hoping someone can help here.

We are on the Eclipse, Alaskan Cruise RT Vancouver, 2A balcony room in early July (originally our honeymoon but will now be an anniversary trip 😅)

We were specifically looking at 7189, 7197 midship (which is where our original room was)

Or any of the 2A bump outs that are still available: 7223, 7227.

My concern with the bump outs is they talk about having a connecting door. My TA said that some people don't like them- is it loud? Can you hear your neighbour? He mentioned the view being better and not seeing life boats when you look down. True? I feel like both views would be similar- can someone confirm?

My other concern is they are near the elevators so I am concerned we will hear everything/everyone. I am a very light sleeper (sleep with earplugs to help that) which is my concern; I also read reviews that some rooms on the bump out are near housekeeping or pantry so there's its of noise that way.

Please forgive me as I'm sure this gets asked a lot but as I said we are very new to cruising and a lot of times I'm not even sure I understand what I'm reading 🤦‍♀️.

Any help is greatly appreciated! 🙂

Our Alaskan  cruise is 11th July. Wondering whether it will go ahead so soon after 1st July . ( Canada cruise cancellations' date)

Coming up up to final payment date...bit unsure what to do.

I am wondering the same thing. Our final payment is due March 26th. We are suppose to be cruising for our Honeymoon July 5th out of Vancouver 😞

  7. Hi!

Hopefully I am posting this in the right place. We recently booked an Alaskan Cruise with Celebrity for our honeymoon (July 5th-July 12th, 2020) :). The itinerary says we dock back in Vancouver at 7:00am. We were looking to book our flight back into Toronto the same day and found one for a good price that leaves at 11:00am. Is that enough time? I tried to search for an answer and a lot of what I was reading was that it isn't enough time if you live in the states and need to go through customs but we won't need to do that since we are Canadians travelling in our own country, right? So let's say worst case we can't get off the ship till 9:00am; it's a 30 to 45 minute drive from the terminal to the airport (is that correct?) which would put us there close to 10 which would cut it close but don't we only need to be an hour early for domestic flights?

I also read something about if you are fit and able you can "walk off" your own luggage etc and get off with the first group. How do we go about setting this up if this is a thing? We've only been on one cruise before (Summit, Nov 2017) & didn't hear of this being an option or else we would have done it then as well.

If it's not doable we will of course do a later flight, we were just trying to avoid that as it puts us into Toronto later and then we have probably a 2.5 hour drive from Toronto home depending on traffic so I thought it'd be better to ask the experts than tell myself I think it's okay just because I dont want to deal with Toronto traffic 😅.

    Thank you in Advance! :)

  8. We are flying in a day early so we could do the full day Toro Negro waterfall rapel, zip lining & hike with Acampa which we booked early this year and we just got an email stating they are still without power and the adventure site of their rainforest is totally destroyed so they need to cancel which is unfortunate but totally understandable.

So now we are left with an entire day FREE to do something. Does anyone have any recommendations? Something similar to Acampa, adventure-wise. We were going to tour the forts when we returned from our cruise but I understand they are closed as well because they are without power so my question is will there be anything we can do?

Other than that if someone could recommend some awesome bakeries (my weakness) or local restaurants (with good beers- my boyfriend's weakness :P) I think that might be fun. We are staying at acacia boutique if that helps.

Hoping someone can recommend something before we leave next week! :).

  9. But if you’re only there one night just shower in the morning at home and then the next day when you get in your room on the ship.

That's the plan unless we're super sweaty from our excursion we have the day before the cruise, but even then we will still probably just go for a swim and wait to shower when we get on the ship :)

  10. I finally got a hold of someone st the Acacia Boutique hotel in SJ. She was very nice and said they were running on generator but hope to not be by the end of January. But for now, cold showers are in order. She did say they were not canceling any reservations at this time even though they are on the FEMA list. Once you’re booked, you’re good to go. She seemed confident of that. They’re about 15 minutes from the port and old San Juan.

That's a relief! We are staying there Nov 23rd, 24th. A cold shower will suck but it looks like such a beautiful place i'm remaining positive :).

  12. I called this evening to confirm my reservations for Nov 17th to make sure they were going to be open.

The front desk manager said they are currently open and running on generators. They have power and air conditioning but they DO NOT have hot water.

We are staying here on the 23rd. I just read it was listed as one of the hotels to house locals so I'm hoping the reservations are still a go.

  13. Following this. Havent called our hotel yet because I've read recent reviews but now that it's been listed as one of the hotels to house locals I think I should bite the bullet and call...going to be stressful either way so may as well get it over with :]. We were/are suppose to fly in Nov 23rd for our cruise the 25th. Was hoping to do an excursion at Acampa but not sure if it's even running now..Fingers crossed!
