Then there are those who walked around with their own music blaring, gangs of teenagers running wild (where are the parents?!).  Twice someone banged on our cabin door, hard, like startling loud!  Once in the afternoon when the snooze sign was out and once at 2AM.  Lots of yelling going on.

I was also on this sailing and I couldn't agree more about the obnoxious, disrespectful teens, they were wildly out of control!!
We are a family of 4, myself, husband and 2 teen boys (14 & 17). My boys couldn't believe the behavior of the other kids.

We were on deck 11, just under Serenity. On the last night a large group of teens (25-30 of them) decided to stay up all night running wild on Serenity, and through the hallways of Deck 11. I'm not one to get offended, or even annoyed by much, but they were wildly out of control.

My family had a great time on this cruise. Chris the cruise director was amazing!!

As the ship returns again today and we have a fresh group of people returning - I would wonder now that the summer is behind up (possibly not for this cruise) if the experience was any different.

I just returned from the Sunrise on Wednesday (9/4). We had a very similar experience with the other passengers that you did; LOTS of very obnoxious, disrespectful, rude teens (as well as many of the adults). We are a family of 4, myself, husband and two teen boys (14 & 17) and even my boys were amazed by the behavior of the other kids. Our cabin was on deck 11 (under the serenity deck where you would think it would be somewhat quite), on the last night there was a large group of teens (25-30) who were up there all night running wild, screaming and yelling (very vulgar language) also running down our hallway.

The pools & hot tubs were incredibly overcrowded, but no more than any other ship I've been on. That said, again it was the bad behavior of the passengers that stood out (rude & obnoxious).

As for the ship itself, I guess I'm just not very particular; there were things that weren't great but it really didn't bother me at all. We didn't experience longer lines on the buffet than any other ship, although at times finding a seat was difficult. I think my biggest complaint was the air conditioning, there were times it was so hot both in our room and on Lido by all the tables.

The cruise director definitely made our cruise!! He was so entertaining, and brought the diverse crowd together.

My older son met 3 nice kids at the club that he spent some time with, but my younger son said the kids were so bad he never went back to his club (so he spent most of his time with us which he was fine with). Overall, we had a great vacation.

    Here’s mine 😁

I LOVED your review!! We sail in exactly a week, I can't wait to see your son perform (I feel like I know him from you review).
Thank you for sharing your cruise experience with us.

on a side note: I look at things this way: life is what you make it, if you are looking for something to complain about you will without a doubt find it. No matter what, I am on vacation; I have nowhere to be in a hurry, I'm an adult and my kids are teens, we can wait patiently in a line for our food...how bad can it possibly be?

Why does that make you a nerd?  I grew up in the 70s and 80s and still love that era. 80% of the music I listen to is from those decades. I never miss an 80s party on a Carnival cruise. I don’t consider the 100s of people who attend this event to be nerds.

I grew up in the 70' & 80's too, and I LOVE it as well. I just meant I was a nerd for being so excited over something so trivial as a theme party. I didn't mean to be offensive, I apologize.

Hi there. I got off the Sunrise last week and there was an 80s party.  CD Chris is awesome and make sure to go to his one man show.

I bought a rechargeable waterpik and use it in the shower.

Thank you SO much!!! Now I'm super excited for the 80's party (i'm such a nerd :classic_biggrin:) as is my 17 year old son (he's a super nerd lol).

    1. The Hub App is great. Like posted above, it doesn't drain the battery any more than any other app.

    2. As it is not prohibited, you probably can bring it on board. BUT.....I don't remember seeing any A/C outlets in the bathroom on the cruise I just came off of. They are all in the sleeping quarters and using it in there would get awfully messy...unless it's battery operated.

    5. Yes minors are allowed in there as per Carnival website:

    7. RedFrog Pub

Sit back and soak up the Key West vibe in the RedFrog Pub. Enjoy Caribbean snacks to go along with your ThirstyFrog Red, the pub’s own private-label brew. Or choose from a full menu of domestic, international and craft beers. Bring your buddies or your kids and challenge them to a game of foosball or shuffleboard.

    Great for: Pub-Style; Family-Friendly

Thank you so much!!! This looks like a fun place, I think we could actually enjoy together.

We take a travel water pick with us.  The electrical outlet in the bathroom (which is designed for shavers, and has limited current output) seems to work just fine.  The outlet is high (above the shelves) but our cord reaches it fine.

Thank you!! I think I'm going to leave it at home. My kids use it because it's easier than flossing with braces, but I see it being more of a problem and a mess I'll have to clean. they will have to suck it up and floss the old fashioned way.

    1) Additionally, the Hub app is free to download and use most of it's features. You don't need to buy one of the onboard internet plans to use the Hub app at all. But be aware that to use the chat feature to message one another, that costs $5 per device (for the whole cruise). To use Hub chat, it's said it works best if you leave the app running, don't close it. As someone mentioned, messages are delayed sometimes, but if you close the app, the recipient won't get the message until they open it again. I've also heard conflicting info. about whether or not it alerts you with a sound when you receive a message. Some say it doesn't, that you have to continually check it for new messages, but I've seen others say they do get audio alerts when a new one comes in.

    2) I have seen multiple people on this forum say they've taken their water pick.

    3) Since the Sunrise is a newly refitted ship, I have to assume that the laundry rooms work with S&S cards. For the ones I've used, there's a panel on the wall to swipe your card and you punch in the number of the machine you want to use. You can also buy detergent with your S&S.

    4) Carnival doesn't specify which ships have the 80's party. You can try to find someone on here who has sailed the Sunrise recently and ask them. You can do a search for Sunrise threads. Their website says the 80's party is featured on cruises 6 days and longer. On shorter cruises, it may be the only party or it might be substituted with the Mega Deck party. https://help.carnival.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/3895/~/deck-parties

Thank you so much!!! Since we are on an 8 day cruise I'm hoping we get the 80's party. I'm going to search the Sunrise boards.

You have all be very helpful, thank you!!!!!

    1) hub app doesn't seem to drain the battery any more quickly that any other app. It does work well for keeping track of party members, but be aware that sometimes responses can be delayed. I have brought battery packs on without an issue.

    3) last ship I was on, the laundry operated using you S&S card (including buying detergent)

    Thank you so much!!!
As for the app, we really only need to be able to tell our boys where to meet up with us, so the delay isn't a big deal. They are pretty responsible for teenage boys.

  8. We will be sailing on the Sunrise in 2 week. While this isn't our first cruise it seems a lot has changed since we last cruised (4 years ago) so I'm full of somewhat silly questions.

    1. We plan on using the Hub app (which wasn't available on our last cruise) to keep in touch with our kids. Does it drain the phone batter quickly? If so, are we allowed to bring external battery chargers on the ship?

    2. Can we bring a water-pick (I didn't see this on the list of prohibited items)

    3. Self service laundry - is this cashless now or will I need quarters? also if anyone has sailed on the Sunrise, do you know where the laundry rooms are located I couldn't find them on the deck plan map.

    4. I read on Carnival's website about deck parties, on certain sailings they have an 80's theme party. How do I find out ahead of time if that will be on our sailing? I don't want to pack my 80's outfit if i'm not going to need it.

    5. Can my boys (17 & 14) go into the Red Frog Pub with us?

Thank you in advance for any and all help.

I would definitely need my one carry on, since that will have all the clothes I need for a week long or longer cruise or vacation.  I just roll it onto the ship myself.  I use a shoulder bag for meds, phone, kindle, travel docs, etc.

That's what I call traveling light, no checked luggage, unless it's an Alaskan or Med trip.

We are a family of 4, when we travel I manage to get by with 2 suitcases, a duffel bag, and  my camera bag which doubles as my purse.
I don't even like carrying a purse, so carrying the bags on just doesn't appeal to me. although now that my boys are older they could also be my personal baggage handler. :classic_biggrin:

  10. Thank you all once again, I appreciate the tips!
I did originally post this on a Carnival thread and it was moved here.
I didn't forget about our meds, or phone chargers, they will be in my camera bad (which will also be used as my purse).

I'm thinking a backpack will be enough for our swimsuits. What I didn't take into consideration was leaving and how I would carry our clothes from the last night off the ship. I'll probably just stick them in our beach bag for the trip home.

    Thank you all again!!! :)

  11. I like to travel light to begin with, and the less I actually have to carry with me the better.  Aside from swimsuits, sunblock, and meds, what do I really "need" to carry on with me. I will be carrying all of our documents in my camera bag/purse. We aren't flying in to meet the ship (just an hours + car ride from home), so we won't need to "freshen up" when we get there. I know our luggage could arrive late therefore we wouldn't have a change of clothes, but missing dinner in the MDR isn't a big deal for us.

    Thank you in advance.

  12. I was having issues on Wednesday. I tried to purchase 2 - $500 & 4 - $100 and it wouldn't let me put my state in. I decided to try from my phone (as opposed to my desktop) and it allowed me to place the order. Got my confirmation e-mail, hopefully they actually ship.

  13. This is what I tell my boys: have fun, behave yourselves and remember just because we are on vacation doesn't mean our common sense and manners have gone on vacation!! All the same rules that apply at home apply here (except bedtime).

Don't lean or sit on railings (or tables - my little pet peeve), RESPECT for others, NEVER go into someone else's cabin or invite anyone into ours, NEVER accept an open drink, and NEVER leave yours unattended (again, this we follow at home).

When you order a drink, if it's at a bar (like on Lido) please make sure not to sit on the bar stool (MANY adults are bothered by this and I don't want to be the parent of "that kid").
I'm sure there is more that I can't think of at the moment.

Enjoy! Going on the Eastern as well?

We are looking forward to it no matter what has been said.

Yes, we are going on the Eastern. I'm looking forward to it as well. I don't pay much attention to the negative comments, I'll be on vacation and I'll be happy (I just hope we have good weather).
