  1. As Coral mentioned I did this back in 2009 on the Star Princess and am again booked for 2020 (not sure if it will happen) I don't think either side of the ship matters much, there is a lot to see and you will be moving around for different views.

Highly recommended and book now is the Falkland Island penguin tour with Patrick Watts. Best tour I've done anywhere in 70+ cruises. He was sold out 18 months in advance on my cruise

Is that Falkland Island penguin tour with Patrick Watts a Princess Excursion or a private tour?

    Thanks!

  2. That is difficult. I have gone 2x (both times included in my trips to Russia not on a cruise line). So I did not have to pay. I have no clue if they were the top ballets or not. I have also seen "Russian ballets" in my city where they claim most of the dancers had belonged to the Bolshoi at one time -- though I think there was some controversy about that.

If you are really into ballet - I would say go for it. For me, it wasn't one of my top memories by any means. I would love to go to the Faberge Museum or are there evening visits to Catherine's Palace on your list?

We went to see the ballet in St. Petersburg when we were there on the Regal Princess in May 2016. We attended a performance of Swan Lake at the Mikhailovsky Theater. It was extraordinary and worth every penny. We booked a private tour and had a wonderful tour all day and then went to the ballet in the evening. Russian ballet really is a level above anywhere else. If you have any more questions just ask. I can recommend a tour guide if you would like. We saw more and it was cheaper than an excursion.

  3. We went to St. Petersburg on The Princess Baltic cruise and used Natalya at tsar-travel.com. Absolutely excellent in every way and much cheaper than the Princess excursion. The Faberge museum was not on the usual agenda but I let her know we wanted to go and she fit it in the intinerary very smoothly and we got see all the other sites as well. She arranged superb seats at the ballet as well. Our driver was safe and knew the best way around town to avoid traffic and was also there waiting for us at the conclusion of the ballet to take us back to the ship. We saw much more in 2 days with her yet it was done so expertly we were not frazzled at the end. We are planning to return and engage her tour guiding service again. Tell her Allison sent you. :) Don’t hesitate to ask me any questions you have. You are going to LOVE St. Petersburg and, quite frankly, the whole cruise!

I also wanted to add that I got her name from the Rick Steve’s Northern European Cruise Ports Book. She came very highly recommended and lived up to that recommendation.

  5. We are looking to book another cruise on Princess (5th cruise), first time on Crown Princess. On Caribe, the only balcony staterooms available at this time are the most Forward (C101). Or we could go to Baja and be still Forward, just not smack against the front. Are there any obstructions to worry about at C101. We'd love the slightly larger balcony that Caribe offers, but are willing to go up a deck if need be. Thanks in advance!!!

  6. We took this cruise last year. YES! . I love to hear the waves lapping on the side as you glide thru. One night, I HIGHLY recommend stepping onto the balcony in the wee hours when it's still twilight because you are so far north. Sit down on the balcony and just breath in the majesty of the sea and the coolness of the air. Hold your wife's hand and just relax. Sleep with the curtains open one night just to see it. We took a fjord cruise one day and it was gorgeous. Realize you will definitely need a jacket on the water.
