    No.

Industrial area, not really nice.....I would pass and look for something else.  If you want to be surrounded by HUGE fuel/oil tanks, go for it.

We never suggest the Carteret/Rahway area.  It's just not a good place to be.

Are you flying in or driving?  TBH if driving, pick one of the oft-suggested hotels on International Blvd off exit 13A and drive to the pier.  Plenty of parking and no fooling around with shuttles/uber whatevers.....

Embassy Suites, Courtyard EWR/Elizabeth, Residence Inn EWR/Elizabeth or Country Inn are WAY better.

Well, if you cruise out of Boston and come the day before..... you could catch a ball game and see the World Champion Boston Red Sox......

I did that once - Roger Clemons as a rookie against the Blue Jays -  long time ago

  3. Thanks for all the information. I like smaller ships, actually, but would go on either. I have never been to Bermuda and never on NCL, just Carnival and Holland America. So, I am just trying to get a feel for the trip. It sounds as though any ship would be good though.

  4. I am going on the 9 day Southern Caribbean o the Konigsdam. I was given a complementary Pinnacle dinner an want to book a noght at De Librije. Has anyone ever eaten at De Librije and is it worth teh extra money - in your opinion. Also, is ther any way to know before the cruise which nights are gala noghts or special dinner sin the regular dining hall?

  5. Actually it depends, many excursions offered through independent operators are not offered through the cruise line.

And of course for those self-excursions that are similar to the cruise ship excursion - eg. a trip to the Baths - the cruise ship cost is typically much higher. And in some cases the queue or meet-up with the ship excursion delays your start, whereas you could be on your way on your own and also have more flexibility.

Just depends on the excursion and you.:)

I get it - the time is sometimes a problem, I agree.

  6. Thank you so much. I stay away from the cruise ship excursions also. TripAdvisor is my go-to.

I have found that many of the cruise excursions are the same ones you get if you book yourself off boat, i am interested to know why so many say they avoid the ship-based ones.
