  1. I've cruised solo about 6 times now and have always had late dining. I've had 2 cruises with good tablemates but the other 4 cruises were really off the mark.

I'm considering MTD on Carnival and wonder if solos end up with other large tables or alone.

Most discussion on the solo board seems to be focused on NCL cruises. Any feedback on Carnival appreciated.

Do you know if you can call ahead and reserve a table? On Royal Caribbean we always looked at the daily schedule and called ahead to book a time based on shows and stuff.

  2. It is hit and miss. 2 years ago we could see all the playoff games for baseball. Last year not a chance. I emailed the Concierge. The problem was that last year our games were on FS1 instead of ESPN which the ship had. I still have happy memories of 2014 watching the KC Royals play. We watched 1/2 an inning then ran out to look at the wake. Repeated entire game. The other 2500 passengers were downstairs doing the macarena, we watched baseball! It was a blast.

It was such a great series! I am a Giants fan and I just have to say KC fans are some of the nicest I have ever met!

  3. WOW Again.. reading and comprehension. I am NOT being rude at all. You stated I had only been on small ships... That is what I was referring to as the ships I have sailed on and the dates they occurred... are right there in my signature. Nothing small about Voyager class. You can call anything luxury you want, but RCI is not a luxury line, no matter your opinion.

As to your last sentence... READ again.. I never called you any name. Try not to be so easily offended. You cannot hear my tone through the internet. Had I been being sarcastic I would have put a little  so you would know.

Still an insult. Just saying. And more Relaxing more that Carnival. Fine, not your definition of luxury but definitely more relaxing. Based on MY experience and no one else's.

  4. Obviously your reading and/or comprehension skills need a tune up. Their small ships? You mean other than Oasis class (FARTHEST from luxury) or the Freedom class?? I have not sailed either, however I have been aboard both classes.

Please look up luxury. Even compared to Carnival, RCI is not luxury. RCI has a more refined feel to it than Carnival, but luxury is not even close to the description.

Thank you for being rude. DR? Your bedside manner sucks. Or Nurse? Either way. One of the many definitions of Luxury is "the state of great comfort and extravagant living." It's a matter of opinion. But that is exactly what I feel aboard Royal Caribbean and not so much on Carnival. So maybe your reading skills are the ones that are lacking.

I don't appreciate people calling people names or saying rude things. What's goes around comes around.

  5. Yes, IF you book excursions prior to your cruise online or by phone. If you book them on the ship during the cruise, they are part of your onboard expense account.

ok that makes sense. I ended up putting one card in my name and the other in my wife's. This way depending on what we want to do we can use the opposite card.

  6. Well you have your opinion on which is better and I have mine. That said, by any stretch they are the same level of cruise...hence the price comparison between the two. Not to go off on a tangent, but I feel just opposite of your claim (which is fine).

That's so funny, I have a friend that has been on two or more cruises a year forever, or for as long as I remember and I think they said they were coming up on 300 points. Something like that. And they swear by Carnival. I just seem to like the ships better on Royal Caribbean. Too many kids on Carnival. And I'm not even that old. haha

  7. We're sailing on March 8th on Granduer of the Seas. I am pretty sure when I made the reservation I requested a large table. I'm way more outgoing than my husband and I like to meet new people. Also after 32 years of eating with the same person I thought it would be nice to have other people to talk to at dinner. This is only our 3rd cruise. The 1st cruise we were seated with a nice elderly couple and their son who was around 40ish. The last cruise on Carnival we had 2 other couples at our table more our age and my husband really liked them especially when he found out one of the other men had a boat so they both had fishing in common. I was surprised when I recently called RC to ask a few questions and was told we have a table for 2. I'm trying to decide if we should keep it or give it up for a table of 6 or 8. I was thinking of seeing how it goes the first night and seeing if we can change it if we're lonely. I think one advantage would be faster service so we can get out when we're done and go to the shows. When I originally booked the cruise 2 years ago it was a 30th anniversary celebration. Had to postpone so now its anniversary and my husband just retired from 30 years in the Navy. I was wondering if they gave us the table for 2 because of our anniversary. Which do you prefer, table for 2 or a large table?

Thanks for opening my eyes, I read a lot of the comments and it has changed my opinion. I usually love to sit just my wife and I. This time my wife said it would be fun to hang out with other people. So we may try and do the group table for MTD.

  8. Royal Caribbean is not a luxury cruise line. It's a mass-market cruise line.

Crystal is an example of a luxury cruise line.

O.k. yeah I guess my Luxury statement was miss-leading. What I meant was comparing for example Carnival and Royal Caribbean RCCL is a lot more Luxury and better overall. Of course this in opinion. and also sometimes the food has been better on Carnival.

  9. To cut down on sharing, it used to be that all occupants of the cabin had to buy the package - now you no longer have to. If you are the only with the package your wife needs to buy her own drinks and not use the ones from your package.

Got it! I kind of figured that but when was this enforced? I went on my first Royal Caribbean cruise in 2005 and I don't remember them enforcing that. Also my last RC cruise in 2012 or 2013 can't remember.

  10. The wine is 2 750 ml per stateroom

The beer and champagne is available during cocktail hrs (brand I am not sure)

Also if you do purchase a drink package, not everyone in the cabin has to purchase one...

Wait What????? If I buy a drink package can my wife use mine? I'm confused? What do you mean not every one has to purchase one?
