  1. Anyone who books a cruise during the hurricane season should realize the risks of a storm. Lots of time the cruise line will reroute a cruise so that you still get your cruise in but when it is something this serious, what would you expect? And why should the cruise line be held responsible? These people were treated very well, considering. The Carnival Pride cruise out of Baltimore was cancelled as passengers were arriving to board. The Coast Guard closed Chesapeake Bay to all traffic. The Pride had no choice in the matter.

Yea thats why you get the cheap rates in huricane season. and although you are rockin' and rollin' you still got your 7 days so as to not feel 'cheated', since so many people complain about any and everything. You know this when you book in this season. Take your chances.

My cousins went last week and had beatiful weather...the calm before the storm...

  2. and if you were to buy a drink in their glasses just take the glass to your room and wash it out, mix your own drink and carry around the ship. Even with bringing on your own booze we still bought from the bar quite a few times. If you were to open your bottle of wine in your room and bring the bottle to the dinning room (opened) I don't think they will charge the opening fee.

    ;)

  3. On Carnival, if you want them to store your wine and it is not a wine on their wine list (not necessary to buy it in the MDR), you will be charged the corkage fee. If I take the bottle back to my cabin after they open it, I have never been charged a corkage fee. I have just brought the bottle back to another dinner and they pour it just like regular.

Now I, more often than not, get a corkscrew from the cabin steward (no charge), open the bottle in my cabin, and then carry a glass of wine to dinner. You may have to remind the cabin steward to replenish your wine glasses, but never had a problem with that.

We just got back, had 2 bottles opened in the dinning room and there was no charge on SS for corkage fee. Carnival Spirit

  4. I would say the most memorable moment I recall was on the Mariner of the Seas several years ago where a young Spring breaker started to peel off his t-shirt and shorts to reveal a bright green Borat bathing suit. I think he wore it on a dare, looked pretty darn good in it too. It's a wonder the ship didn't tilt to one side after all the females on deck ran over to take his picture, myself included.

picture, you have a picture and you didn't post it! lol:D

  5. There certainly were some selfish people that night. They managed to get a load of blankets, sweatshirts, t-shirts etc sent over from the ship. There probably would have been enough to go round if some people didn't grab more items than were essential. There was a speed boat that went from the island to the ship (I'm surprised it made it though) and it brought the ship's doctor back to the island.

What people who weren't there don't realise is that nearly everyone was in beach attire and believe me in November when that sun went down it was COLD and WINDY.

The staff were excellent and could not have done any more. There was some work going on somewhere on the island at the time and the staff managed to get some plastic sheeting to help act as windbreakers.

"Chilled to the bone" was an understatement that night. It took all the next day to feel like normal again.

Some families were split up because only half of them had gone ashore. I heard that there were some people on the ship complaining that they weren't getting their usual service because all the staff on the ship were running around sorting out stuff for the "stranded".

There were people camping out in the toilets just to get in from the cold and wind.

If you had a tent and the right clothes with you then spending the night on Coco Cay would be great.

The compensation ended up being really good (although of course you don't know that at the time). They refunded everyone the full cost of that cruise, plus the same amount again to be used against another future cruise. This was the case for all passengers, whether you were stranded or not. It was also free drinks for the rest of the day when everyone got back on board.

We laugh about it now of course and it's made for a great dinner party story.

    wow:eek:

  6. That certainly makes for one interesting cruise!!

Last February I was on the Disney Magic and we were not able to pull away from the dock at their private island of Castaway Cay. Winds picked up pretty fast....and the surf was rolling. The ship just happened to be pulled into the pier bow first which was unusual to begin with....so the captain was having a very hard time backing her out of the pier.....wound up finally leaving the next day around 1pm or so......so our 7 night cruise turned into an 8 night cruise. Now the whole scenario would have been crazy had the ship tendered to Castaway Cay!

everybody out and start pushing! :p:D:confused:

  7. I've heard that quote before, but never knew it was from the inspired Dr. Seuss. Thank you for that.

Schoifmom...... I leave in one week from today. We're driving to Seattle, flying out of Seatac to Houston then to Miami. Thankfully we get in a full day ahead so we have most of saturday to recouperate. I am planning on having the best time of my life there. We recently went through alot with my father and a cancer diagnosis. He is on the mend now, but it has truly made me grateful for every moment i'm alive. I will never know if this is my last cruise, my last time to spend quality time with the love of my life. So i am trying my hardest to just throw caution to the wind and enjoy myself.

    hi missrabbit

well I see your time to cruise is coming up. you have a great time on your cruise. relax and enjoy!

  8. i just stumbled across this and thought it was a joke at first. since when did a cruise related message board become like grad school? i'm sorry, but planning my vacation is the ONE time i get to rest from being paranoid about proper citations and formatting in my writing. i haven't found the need to copy paste anything, but seriously,is this just some kind of disclaimer?

    like this? jk :)

  9. for all those who have lost a loved one on a cruise my sympathies to you. It would be sad to loose your loved one at anytime doing anything, but at least you were with them in the final moments doing something you've planned for awhile.

I've spent more planning of my cruise than my daughters wedding.

  10. This is the first time I two future cruises to look forward to. Has anyone else sailed on Disney?

We went on the Disney Magic in 2005. Alaska on the DW will be great. We hadn't been to DL in a long time so all the characters and music is fine for us. You need to hit the Disney board. Tons of info there. :)

  11. LOLOL. That reminds me of the time i used the jetted tub at my step-monster's house when she was out. She likes to take bubble baths and doesn't ever use the jets. Little did i know, that all those bubble baths caused major buildup of the soap in the jet cavities. I turned on the water and the jets and left the room to undress. Came back a few minutes later to a literal volcano of bubbles cascading over the side of the tub and onto the floor!

Here i was, scooping up armfuls of bubbles, dumping them into the two sinks, running water to try flushing the bubbles down the drain to make room for the next armful. It took forever to flush the bubbles out of the bathtub's jet system. Needless to say, by the time i was done, i was too pooped to take a bath (and too covered head to toe in bubbles) so i just quickly showered and went to bed.

I stayed at a hotel and did that some body wash. The tub had an enclosure thank goodness so bubbles didn't get on the floor, but I was trying to shut it off, it had auto timer, I was like what the heck is going on! Rookie spa tub users!:p

  12. my hubby is a big guy too and you have answered almost all my questions about access. We had bought camping type chairs that fold and come in a carry bag with a strap. I almost want to bring it so hubby can enjoy the balcony and have fun on shore and relax in his chair. How are the chairs on the balcony?

Can I check the chair like waters or would we have to carry it on?

  13. All's fair in love and war huh?? I wouldnt admit this, even if it were true, if I was able bodied. Why should they have to bump you to a suite if they want your cabin?

I'm not trying to make enemies on here, just stating what reservations told me. If someone needed it they can bump me. I wouldn't have a problem. It's just when you book they don't say which rooms are hc and which aren't.

Hubby is overweight and on cpap, but thats not a handicap. I do have a bad back that may require surgery, but thats not a handicap.

I guess the cruise industry should come up with a better way to distribute those rooms without us ''able bodied' seeing it available on the pick your room page, and picking it. Not even knowing if its hc or not.

Please don't flame me again fire, I see you have lots of posts and I just started. I really don't have a problem with getting bumped out if I have a hc room and they didn't tell me. My room looks the same size just the balcony is a little bit bigger. Room is turned differently.

    have a nice day:)

  14. yes and it says when booking that if you are handicapped to book early to be able to get the handicapped room. sometimes looking at rooms still available on sailings, it doesn't show that it is a handicapped room so I say if I choose the room then it's mine.

The cruise line should say what rooms are handicapped and which aren't. I would be fine if I happened to get bumped into a suite or something if someone needed the room, but the thing about booking early to get the room you want still sticks in my mind.

When I've looked at last minute cruises all the rooms left are shown and there seems to be handicapped availablity.

No I never park in handicapped spaces but I might take that handicapped room with the big balcony if its still available. Sorry
